1. The lyrics for the song one day are meaningful and have a positive message behind them, as they cause
the audience to feel this sense of wanting to achieve in life and strive for success in whichever way they
can. In order to keep this feature of the music the music video needs to mirror this, which is why I chose
to have a performance based music video with a small amount of narrative during, the narrative bits
needed to have an illustrative relationship between the lyrics and visuals and this is so that the audience
connect with the video and get an understanding of the message behind the lyrics . From my research, I
though that this will appeal to our audience because it would keep them entertained, whilst portraying a
positive message, it would also fulfil characteristics of a typical hip-hop video which should satisfy the
audiences needs in terms of what they expect from a music video of the hip hop and r&b genre. The
audience would feel a personal connection with the artist as he is going to be portrayed in a casual way
through his image which is relatable to them as 'one of us' so they will be more likely to carry on listening
to the song because the lyrics relate to what they have also gone through in life.
For the narrative element within my music video, I will use two young teens trying and failing at something
to depict the message to the audience that persistence is the key to success. The audience will be able to
relate to this as they have also gone through problems in life where they want to give up on something and
so straight away they should be able to feel a personal connection to the video.
Throughout the video, I will show the artist, this is so the audience get familiar with the artists face and
image and also to fulfil the demands of the record label. The song has this element of a journey throughout
and so to mirror this I will include clips of the artist walking up stairs and this general idea of progression
so that I can evoke into the audience this idea of achievement being a journey through progression and
persistence.
Throughout the video, I will establish this dark mood, by using black and white and cloudy locations to
connotate this idea. However I will contrast this with the on screen images of a positive progression so
that I am able to keep the audiences attention, yet portray the message behind the music in a simple yet
cleaver way. Initially I was going to go against using black and white because I felt it made the video a bit
boring, however the performance and images on screen throughout the video should break this up and
take this boredom idea way from the audience.
In the performance aspect of my music video, the location of the artist will be rarely shown, this is to keep
the audience guessing and also so that the focus is just on the artist and the message the lyrics are trying
to portray. This will also be done because a lot of the shots are of the artist high up, and I want the artist to
look as if he is in the sky to add to the effect of evoking emotions within the audience. The performance
element means I will be able to use lots of close ups and medium close ups of the artist, which should
also allow the audience to establish a connection with the artist and feel as if he is talking directly to them.
