2. Theory
Bulmer and Katz theory is made up of four
categories;
- Diversion
- Personal identity
- Personal relationships
- Surveillance
3. Diversion
The need to escape from everyday life.
My magazine shows diversion as the articles
allow you to relax and read something which
gets you away from the audiences life and gives
and insight into someone else's life i.e. a
celebrity or their favourite artist/band
4. Personal Relationships
People use the media to fulfil for companionship,
and to form relationship with others
My magazines gives people a chance to visit a
website and also a chance to talk about it online via
social media as it could be published when the
magazine is released upon a facebook or twitter
page. It also allows people with the same interests to
come together and read the same magazine from
around the world which could be contacted via a
message board on the website.
5. Personal Identity
We tend to sometimes use media to find out about
yourselves, sometimes people that are presented,
in some way reflect us.
The alternative/ indie genre of the magazine
attracts people who are interested in that type of
music who will subscribe to the magazine so
they are updated on the latest music, fashion,
gigs.
6. Surveillance
Using the media to find out what is going around
us, for an example reading a magazine, which
tells us what has been going on in the lives of
our celebrities.
The articles in my magazine aloud the audience
to have an insight into someone else’s life which
they could look up to and aspire to be like.
