The document describes changes made to the design of a magazine cover. Originally, the main image was centered with the masthead large at the top. Cover lines and additional information were on the left side. The author decided to move the masthead to the top left, make the magazine title larger, change a text box on the bottom right to advertise posters, and add more images and text to make the cover look fuller. The final design included cover lines, barcode, issue number and price on the left with clearer, more colorful text to stand out amongst other elements.
2. Originally as shown in my Front Cover mock up, I wanted to
place the main image in the centre of the page, I had decided
to put the masthead at the top making it quite large. I had
chosen to use a masthead at the top of the page and have my
cover lines as images and text placed on the left hand side. In
the mock up I had made the price, issue number and bar code
quite large as well as the text box at the bottom right hand
corner.
I had decided to place the word Rythmix at the top of the
image at a slant in the right hand corner. I had initially
designed my magazine to have a large text box at the bottom
of the page to advertise the competition and the freebies that
come with the magazine.
3. However, once I began to make my front cover I decided to
change a lot of what I had first thought the GoPoP front
cover would look like. To begin with I kept the header at
the top of the page the same as what I had planned;
however, I made the font for Rythmix much bigger than the
rest of text. Also, I decided to place the masthead in the
top left corner instead on the right, this is because it
stands out more on the left hand side. I decided to keep
my cover lines on the left hand side towards the bottom of
the magazine. Also, the colour scheme I have chosen is
pinks, orange and red. This is because these are bright
colours which relate to the Pop genre a lot.
I decided to change the text box at the bottom of the page
in the right hand corner, to a circle shape to make it stand
out more to advertise the posters that come with the
magazine. I changed this from the freebies to posters as
this suited the typical stereotypes of a Pop music
magazine.
4. Whilst I was in the process of making the front cover, I added in more images
and text to make the magazine look ‘fuller’ which included a lot of
information, text and imagery.
I decided to add a brightness and contrast layer to the main image in order to
make it stand out more and look more interested to appeal to the target
audience and pull them in.
5. After I had altered and changed my front cover this is
what it looked like.
I added in the cover lines, bar code, issue number and
price on the left hand side. I made the text clearer to
read and more colourful to ensure it stood out amongst
the other text and images.
I also, decided to change the text for ‘Rythmix’ to more
of a rigid and bold type of text, I also added an effect to
the text in order to make it stand out more.
6. I changed the cover line of ‘Then latest gossip
on all the new artists hitting the music scene’
to ‘Get the latest gos’ on GoPoP’
