Personal Development
By 2LT Bone, Garrison
Throughout a Soldier’s time in service, it is important to not only seek professional
development but also further one’s own personal development. Part of personal
development can be meeting personal goals, earning civilian certifications, or even
seeking higher education. The mission of the Army Continuing Education System is
"to promote lifelong learning, readiness, and resilience through flexible and relevant
education programs, services, and systems in support of the Total Army Family." The
Death Dealers have promoted these educational opportunities and urged Soldiers to
maximize their time while in theater.
During the month of July, many Soldiers in the Death Dealer team have been working
hard and taking advantage of the Army’s Education Program. SGT Jamie Jacot, Crew 3
Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC), has continued to seek his Bachelors of
Science Degree in Space Studies from American Military University. He has completed
an introduction to philosophy and algebra course while deployed. Currently, he is
taking an astronomy class and is expected to graduate in 2024. SGT Jonathan
Kashinsky, Crew 1 NCOIC, started his Masters of Arts in International Relations.
Currently, he is taking Introduction to the European Union. Also, PVT Geride Hall,
Crew 3 Crew member, has been diligently working on his financial education and
ensuring that he meets his goal of financial security and stability throughout his army
career.
Delta Battery is proud of the Soldiers for their hard work in going above and beyond
to prepare for their future continued service or for an eventual civilian career.

Over the past few weeks, Delta Battery has hosted several site visits, to include
visits by two generals. Brigadier General Stephen Radulski, the 28th Infantry
Division Assistant Division Commander, and Brigadier General Adrian Spain, the
380th AEW Commander were briefed recently on the PATSITE. Typically during a
site visit, higher-ranking personnel come down to hear how Patriot operations are
conducted and inspect the status of the site.
The briefs start out with the Distinguished Visitor(s) arriving on site to be
greeted by the Battery Commander, the on-shift site Officer in Charge and the
on-shift site Non Commissioned Officer in Charge. The DV is then escorted to the
sandbox diagram of the site where they are briefed on each piece of individual
equipment and how they work together to accomplish the mission. Briefers
discuss the unit task organization, mission statement, and site layout for the
visitors. Upon completion of the sandbox diagram briefing, the visitors are then
escorted to the Battery Command Post (BCP), Engagement Control Station (ECS),
and Battery Maintenance Center (BMC), where operators explain their individual
and collective duties and responsibilities.
Following completion of the formal portion of the brief, the Battery Command
Team has the opportunity to highlight a Soldier from the Battery to the DV.
Sometimes the highlighted Soldier is recognized by the DV with a coin for their
hard work and professionalism. During one of the past site tours, BG Radulski
highlighted SPC Matthew Moore (photo to the right) for his outstanding
professionalism and commitment to the mission.

As Delta Battery enters the fourth quarter for fiscal year 2018, the
end of the deployment rapidly approaches. In preparation for
upcoming training and re-deployment, the ‘Death Dealer’ Team has
focused on executing a forward-deployed Campaign on Property
Accountability (COPA).
COPA is designed to focus efforts on receiving the disposition and
executing the turn-in of excess, outdated, or property book items
that are damaged beyond repair. By doing so, this allows the units to
clear out much needed shipping container space while also allow an
opportunity to return excess property that could be redistributed
throughout the force to those who need it. In the month of July
alone, Delta Battery executed the turn-in and disposition of over
$22,000 worth of excess property.
On 22 July 2018, the Commanding General of the United States
Army Central Command (USARCENT), LTG Garrett, visited Delta
Battery and received a brief on the battery’s status with COPA as well
as upcoming training concerns relating to COPA progress.
To conclude his visit, LTG Garrett recognized 1LT Neddermeyer, SPC
Williams, and PFC Palma for their outstanding efforts to support the
battery mission. As a token of appreciation, the ‘Death Dealers’
presented LTG Garrett with a flag from the Battery Flag Program,
which was flown on a PATRIOT Launching Station in support of
Operation Enduring Freedom.

Brig Gen Spain honored the ‘Death Dealer’ family by recognizing
one of our own outstanding Soldiers on 13 July 2018 as the ADAB
Warrior of the Week. SPC Andrew Dumais was selected out of the
3200 Soldiers on post and publicly recognized for his passion, drive,
and motivation that he pours out on every mission and every task
which has led his crew to success on numerous occasions.
SPC Dumais possesses all of the characteristic of a phenomenal
Soldier. He is an invaluable member of the ‘Death Dealer’ team and
demonstrates his tactical proficiency in his assigned role on an Air
and Missile defense crew by continually out-performing others of his
same rank and pushing himself to new levels.
As a 14E by MOS, SPC Dumais cross-trained himself to become
proficient at the Communications Specialist role in the Engagement
Control Station. He is committed to continually improving his
knowledge and bettering himself as a Soldier. SPC Dumais has
improved his Army Physical Fitness Test by 20 points in the last 60
days and has repeatedly received Q1 evaluation scores. Commitment
is the cornerstone of success, and that is something that SPC Dumais
has proven to the ‘Death Dealer’ family. We are extremely proud and
honored to serve with SPC Dumais in Delta Battery.

6. 1SG Johnson, MarquesCPT Parris, Megan
When asked about the battery’s performance this month, 1SG Johnson answered simply with a large
smile on his face, “They done good!” In the corner, the XO laughs and makes a joke that no one hears
or really would have understood. This while the Commander types away at the most recent due-out
listening to the comedic exchange between the two. This is the life of the Battery Command Team… a
lot of emails, a lot of laughs, and a whole lot of pride in the work the Soldiers of this battery are
accomplishing.
July was non-stop. There were crew shifts to execute, vehicle maintenance to conduct, equipment
turn-in to complete, more maintenance (so much maintenance), and training, training, and more
training! There was air and missile defense training, warrior time training, 350-1 training, master
resiliency training, operational security training, safety training, and let’s not forget drivers’ training…
and that’s just a few among the list. This all to be balanced against DV site tours, battle rhythm events,
Operational Readiness Exercises, missile reload, missile download, PATSITE relocation planning, and
radar relocation execution.
There’s been highs and there’s been lows, but the Soldiers continue to motivate each other and get the
mission done. We are so proud of this formation for the work they’ve accomplished and the work they
still have yet to accomplish. Kill ‘Em All!
