3. GENERATIONS OF WARS
First Generation
❑ First-generation warfare refers to Ancient and Post-classical
battles.
❑First generation warfare" refers to battles fought with massed
manpower, using line and column tactics with uniformed soldiers
governed by the state.
❑ Treaty of Westphalia, thirty years war.
❑ Nation state system was introduced after this era because of thirty
years long war it was impossible for the small regions to fight
without state.
❑ The power to fight wars was given to states.
❑Example: English Civil War, Anglo Spanish War, American

4. GENERATIONS OF WARS
Second Generation
❑Second generation warfare is the tactics of warfare used after the
invention of the riffled musket and breech loading and counting
through the development of machine gun and indirect fire.
❑Second generation war developed by French army in world war 1.
❑Mass fire power.
❑Centrally controlled fire power was introduced to control the
enemy.

❑Examples: American civil war, Boer war, World war 1, Spanish

5. GENERATIONS OF WARS
Third Generation
❑Third generation warfare is a term created by the US military in 1989,
referring to the tactics of warfare used after the Wehrmacht’s
development of the Blitzkrieg.
❑Third generation was developed by Germans in world war 1 and world
war 2.
❑German army decentralized the concept and gave more importance to
speed, psychological and physical dislocation.
❑Tanks, helicopters, missiles.
❑Aircraft and motorized Infinitary.
❑More destruction.
❑Examples: World war 2, Korean War, Vietnam War, 2003 Invasion of
Iran.

Fourth Generation
❑Fourth-generation warfare (4GW) is conflict characterized by a
blurring of the lines between war and politics, soldier and civilian.

❑Soft war.
❑Non-conventional war.
❑New generation war.
❑It’s a conflict, war or battle of perception and information.
❑It is the war in which enemy changes the perception and perspective of the nation of it’s enemy.
When their perspective will change the nation will stop loving its country. This is what India is doing
in Pakistan.

❑To show manipulated and controlled view of the world.

E.g, People of Pakistan are influenced by the culture of west and India. Wedding and dowry

❑Create an unrest environment in the country so that the government won’t be able to work

E.g, India and west are backing some groups in Pakistan that are causing political unrest
through protests etc.

E.g, Many accounts are being operate by India or Israel to spread information against Islam and
Pakistan.
13. OBJECTIVES OF 5TH GENERATION WAR
❑Weaken enemy resistance without fighting.
❑Political unrest, protest, destruction, converting people of Pakistan against Pakistan.
❑Prevent enemy to pursue military objectives ( to involve enemy in many problems that they
forget to pursue their military objectives and their defense system gets weak).
❑Impose economic pain ( to make a country economically weak ).
❑Not letting your enemy survive.

is causing health danger, this anarchy was spread by India).

that the image of Pakistan in front of whole world is getting weaker and weaker.
