The document summarizes the tensions between North Korea and other nations regarding North Korea's nuclear program. It argues that diplomacy through open communication is needed to reduce tensions instead of military escalation. Specifically, it proposes that a team of diplomats be assembled to negotiate directly with North Korea to find a peaceful resolution.
1. In a move reminiscent of the tensions
of 1962, North Korea has threatened
nuclear warfare - how will the West
respond?
Objective : Employ evasive action such as
diplomacy instead of warfare

2. It is the fundamental principle of liberal pacifist
academic circles, that the deed of one
articulate diplomat can do more for the cause of
humanity than those of one hundred armed
soldiers.
Warfare is not a solution – it is an aggressor.
Bunkers are not an adequate response – they
hinder more than 2,000 years of human
civilisation.
What has been consistent throughout the years?
Words.
The following is a timeline of events.
3. ● 1945 – US drops the Nuclear Bomb killing
civilians in Nagasaki & Hiroshima
● 1950 – 53 – North Korea attempts to invade South Korea
● 1962 – Bay of Pigs & Cuban Missile Crisis
● 2009 – Fire exchanged between North Korea and South Korea
● 2011 – Barack Obama stations 2500 US troops in Darwin,
Australia
● 2013 – tensions heighten
● 2014 – Australia sells uranium to India
● 2017- US detects weapons of mass destruction in North Korea
● 2018 – U2 planes detect more weapons than previously imagined
● 2019 – mass rioting within North Korea due to ailing poverty
● 2019 – UN threatens intervention
4. In an move echoing the sentiments of critical thinkers such as Marx
– the proletariat have sprung up in revolution.
Many of the people who have managed to break the barriers to communication
say that the move has been sparked by the youth – who have been born into
this oppression, unaware for many years that just across the DMZ – they had
relatives. Their message is not one of political revolution – they are protesting
starvation and mass poverty.
Relentless undercover reporters have sent disturbing video footage,
reminiscent of Tiananmen Square.
In a series of uprisings in North Africa, where Libya and Egypt experiences
civilian revolt – the west intervened. The political climate of the world at the
time was influenced heavily by global hegemon, USA. After the financial
crisis of 2015 – allied powers withdrew the support for US military initiatives.
The US has signalled in the General Assembly that they intend to put forth a
motion in the Security Council, to intervene in NK. North Korea has
responded with the threat of nuclear warfare. U2 planes using infrared
technology have confirmed the veracity of the threats. The world hangs in the
balance, more so than in 1962.
5. Issue : North Korea has threatened the
deployment of nuclear arsenal.
Failure of US intervention in European
Economic crisis' has lead to the
self-imposed isolation of most nations.
It resembles a Cold War world.
Option 1) Return to the '45 after 45' scenario : engage in an Arms Race and attempt
to beat the ticking clock to MAD
Option 2) retaliate in forward defence, repeating Hiroshima and killing millions
and possibly resulting in the self-inflicted extinction of the human race through a
Nuclear Winter
Option 3) Compose a team of diplomats to host talks with the UN
representative for North Korea
The President of the United States of America addresses the nation in the State of
the Union with a message unlike any other.
6. Today, citizens of the world, as I address the United States of America, I extend an open hand to every
man, woman and child from the vast corners of the world. Let my words speak to you like those
from an old friend. From Bosnia to Boston, our commonalities unite us, like never before. We have
remained strong in the face of adversity, genocide, poverty and terrorism. We have also failed. We
were challenged in Rwanda in 1994, in Libya in 2011 and universally, on 9/11. Although the
method of our prayers are different – the content is not. Although the tongues which we speak are
often misunderstood, their emotion, is not. The colours of our skins may vary – one quest remains
universal – our desire to live, noticed and as equals. In the darkest of times, our commonalities
which flow through our veins, encircled in crimson – offer us a shining light. We have speculated
for centuries as to what our greatest threats would be. We have seen the emergence of severe
climate change, and the shocking propensity of home grown terrorism. We have followed the paths
of asteroids, and when they have almost skimmed our atmosphere – we have sighed and
recognised how insignificant and powerless we can actually be – how easily our advancements
could have dissipated in a thick fog of smoke. We all recognised the fiery courage of a Chinese
student in Tiananmen Square in 1949. Courage – doesn’t always appear as a roaring lion – it
appears in the small act of a student, who dares to dream. Today, I speak indirectly to those who
have been silenced for too long and I speak directly to the elite of North Korea. The time has
come. You may perceive nuclear warfare as a just forward defence – or you may acknowledge that
the world is united in its mission – to intervene where we have hesitated for decades. To the world:
I say, we cannot beguile ourselves in believing that we are stronger in isolation. Today, I urge each
and every nation, to move past the shadows of uncertainty and blossom for the sake of humanity.
Leave no stone unturned in your quest to compile the best team of diplomats and negotiators your
esteemed nations have to offer. The greatest threat to our existence is indifference, our inability to
look beyond the skin-deep differences. The fate of the living world rests on our collaboration.
7. ● 19th April, 2022 : President Jon-Ung and advisors meet with western
allied diplomats.
● 25th April 2022 : Negotiations continue as tensions heighten worldwide.
India threatens unleashing nuclear warfare upon North Korea.
● 26th April 2022: The Doomsday clock is two minutes to midnight.
● Australian Diplomat to President Jon-Ung :
The fundamental factor upon which a leader is reliant – is having a
country to lead. Mass uprising which hoped to result in a coup would've
been disintegrated by supporters, but with every drop of blood lost – a
flicker of doubt would emerge in the hearts and minds of the North
Koreans. Their sons and daughters are dying. If a leader has no people,
he ceases to be a leader – and so one destroy a man.
● 1st May 2022 : North Korea agrees not to deploy nuclear weapons
under the condition that the US end their trade embargo. NK has agreed
to allow emergency aid packages and workers within the region.
● 2nd of May 2022 : The Doomsday clock is 10 minutes to midnight.
8. ● The work of liberal institutions and their advocates has increased in recent decades.
Mankind has tried warfare for thousands of years and the result has always been
predictably precedented – death, bloodshed and oppression. Diplomacy has emerged
in the last two hundred years as a step forward. There is a myth which many have
faith in, that there was once a tower – the Tower of Babylon – which was built by
mankind in a quest to reach the heavens. God, angry at the progress the people had
made on the Tower, terminated it and spread the people across the land – cursing
them to speak different languages so that they could never understand one another. It
is only by creating and fostering international political relationships, that we can
collectively achieve the objective of the metaphor : to achieve a peaceful world.
We have tried war, it has not worked. We must try something else. Never
underestimate the power of words and their ability to influence a specific course of
events, individual fates and monumental changes in the world. The 'we don’t not
negotiate with ''terrorists'' ' approach is a foreign policy position preaching war
instead of negotiation.
I do not expect sudden peace from this solution, nor the end of all warfare. However,
I demand that we endeavour to negotiate, and in doing so, although we may not
achieve perfect results – we can avoid mutually assured destruction. Mankind is
threatened by what they perceive as 'different', and although not ideal, they remain
etched in some blueprint many are prepositioned with. Diplomacy will open the
channels of communication and signal to the world that a collaborative front will
create change. It may take generations and challenging age-old perceptions – but it
must occur if we wish to advance as a species – if we wish to avoid the ultimate
downfall of our way of life. We have a long way to go, but, I propose : educate more
diplomats, train less soldiers. Print books not propaganda and manifest hope, instead
of manufacturing weapons.
9. Historical Examples
The Option of War The Option of Diplomacy
● WWI : 16.5 million fatalities ● Civil War in the Balkans came to a cease
in 1995 with the signing of the Dayton
● WWII : 60 million fatalities Peace Treaty
● 1953 : The Doomsday clock signalled ● 1962 – miscommunication through
that we came 2 minutes to midnight. telegrams led to 'the red phone' being
● Vietnam – 2 million Vietnamese civilians installed to directly link the USSR and
killed USA. Cuban Missile Crisis averted.
● War on Terror : millions of civilians ● The African-American Civil Rights
killed, over 3,000 US casualties Movement – civil disobedience preached
by Martin Luther King Jr. as opposed to
violence
10. In the last thirty years, organisations such as
the United Nations Youth Association,
have reiterated the growing importance of negotiation and
diplomacy. Proponents of such organisations,
active across the world, have hypothesised that the
future leaders of tomorrow stem from such places.
The 'Peace One Day' initiative has influenced a movement of
supporters globally.
Nuclear Non-Proliferation continues to be on the global agenda.
This is our challenge for the future – in the words of Gandhi :
We must be the change we seek in the world
