very long time,
approximately 3000
years.

Vanuatu became an
independent nation.
4. FOOD

as banana, coconut,
sugarcane, tropical
nuts, pigs,
greens seafood and
luxury foods such
as rice or tinned fish.
2. The national dish of
Vanuatu is the Lap.
5. CLOTHING
1. Ni-Vanuatu
wear modern, Western-
style clothing.
2.Women often wear fiber
skirts without a blouse or
top.
3.Men may wear a
traditional loincloth or a
pair of shorts and a T-
shirt.
6. HOUSING
1.In urban areas
only the emerging
middle class can
afford government-
built housing.
2.The vast majority
of villagers still
build their own
homes from local
materials.
8. CUSTOMS
1. Customs is involved in
every single major event
in village life (marriage,
death, etc) and ensures
that law and order is
maintained.
2. Kava drinking and
the nakamal used to be
strictly for the men,
whereas now women can
go along as well.
