1. Away From Here
Concept
The song we have chosen to use for our advanced portfolio in media is
“Away from here” by the Coventry band “The Enemy”. The song has a
negative look on society and how the working class people work though
the week and only look forward to the weekend, hence the lyrics
“Saturday is your only highlight, when you go out and live the high life”.
2. Performance and narrative
The music video consists of switching between the band playing in a
very bland warehouse, often with a black and white effect on them
and fast jump cuts to different aspects of the working class that ties
into the lyrics e.g. Showing an office block with a vintage effect on the
camera, possibly to mirror how life doesn’t change. The song has a
fairly fast beat throughout the chorus, because of this the band will
need to jump around and look very energetic.
Lighting
Lighting in a music video is vital to set the mood and reinforce the
meaning behind the video itself. For our video we expect to use fairly
bright lighting on the band to get clear shots of them playing, if the
lighting is too dark the audience may not be able to view the band
members easily. For alternative shots of the people going about their
everyday life, we plan to put a dimmer, sort of 90’s effect on the video to
give the mood sadder, rather than bright lighting on the band showing a
pimped up mood when they are playing.
3. Style and costumes
Because the song we have chosen talks about the working
class of Britain and how everyday is the same, we feel that
no extravagant costumes are needed. An ordinary jeans and
jacket will fit the narrative in our video. The style of the
video will be late 90’s early 2000’s as we will aim to put a
video effect on making it look older.
4. Location
Our video will consist of various locations stretching as far as
Turkey, this is to tie in with the lyrics “away from here”. For the
most time the shooting will take place in the performance studio at
Hartlepool Sixth Form College. Before using the college studio we
will need to seek permission in case there are other candidates
who need to use it at the same time.
