1. Evaluation Q1
In what ways does your media product use challenge or
develop conventions.
2. Convention 1: Camera Movement
Performance: Panning
(Use)
For the camera movement within the performance, we used a vast amount of panning to show off the whole band but still keeping close to the member's in order
to build up tension and make it more dramatic. Furthermore we would use this technique to bring back the focus on the main singer after we have focused on Zak
an Cameron playing the instruments. Lastly the panning allows the video to run smoothly, keeping to the flow and beat of the music, Rather then cutting between
each member and breaking it up it.
Narrative:Tracking Shot
For the camera movement within the narrative, the opening shot was a tracking shot of Kim the main actor running with the ball and then a tracking shot
of his opponent chasing him.The reason we did the tracking shot was to help the process of building up tension as it would give a closer insight from both
Kim's and his opponents perspective building up to the big tackle that is the starting point and basis to our whole video. Overall the tracking shot allowed
the opening sequence of the music video to be more immersive for the audience to keep them incised for the remainder of the video.
ATypical convention of the camera movement within folk rock music video is to pan and move
between each member of the band to create a smooth and flowing music video.
3. Convention 2: Narrative
(Challenged)
A typical convention for a narrative in a folk rock music video is to create a playful and entertaining music video for their audience with
hidden messages for the audience to take in. Usually the video will focus on the band and take the viewer on an adventure showing vast
amount of natural and urban scenery.
The way we have challenged the narrative is that we have created a music video about a footballer who gets a bad injury and is then on the
road to recover going thorough the hard times but getting through to become fit again. This is different as there is usually a playful
underlining tone to folk rock music whereas we have kept a serious and engaging tone throughout as we felt this would be more immersive
and entertaining for the audience. Furthermore we felt that the lyrics of the song was a message within itself of someone not believing and
being close to giving up and so we used that to create a juxtaposition of someone believing and getting over an obstacle in their life.
4. Digipak: Props
The convention of the digipak for folk rock bands is that is features the urban setting for where there music videos have
been based and which holds significance for their album. Due to us using a small and dark setting for our performance we
decided to focus more on the band members and the probs.
The way we have challenged this convention is that we have feature the instruments in
numerous of the covers including the guitar on the tack list and the full band with
instruments on the inside cover. The reason we did this is that we used a very simplistic
setting and therefore we wanted to focus in on the band and the instruments.
Plain and simplistic digipak featuring the urban area
and the band which is juxtapose with our digipak
featuring the band mainly and the instruments.

5. Magazine Advert: Editing
The editing in a magazine advert for other folk rock albums has minimal editing to keep it simplistic and
natural which would help link it to the music video and the overall branding.
(Use and Develop)
I used the adjustment tool to up the contrast and
brightness of this photograph to bring out the faces
to brighten it up and make them stand out.
The three of us were
captured in three separate
images but we used the mask
tool and was able to blend
the three images together to
create the effect of Zak and
Cameron blended into the
background and highlighting
harry as the main focus.
Furthermore on the bottom of the
magazine to create a good space for the
reviews and text we faded the image to
black.
Lastly the smoke machine
wasn’t as strong for when
we took the ancillary
photographs and
therefore we had to edit a
Smokey effect on to the
image to create the
dramatic feel and to link it
with the video.
