DASD SUPPORT ENGINEER

Hardware support responsible for Level 1, Level 2 repair of DS8K enterprise storage
systems. This includes power and cooling systems, CEC components, I/O components, and storage enclosure
devices. Employ regular use of engineering tips, maps, and auto-consulting procedures. Dispatch Customer
Engineers to do the actual repair at customer sites. Some recovery actions can be completed remotely using
bottom-line commands.
Used RETAIN to communicate with the customer and other support personnel. I have
worked several weeks in the test lab assisting engineers with execution test cases, such error injections of
CEC components and documenting the repair procedures for the IBM DS8870 enterprise storage device.
PRODUCT FIELD ENGINEER
IBM - Tucson, AZ - August 2005 to March 2011
As a DS6K product field engineer (PFE), I supported the service structure and serviceability of the DS6K
enterprise disk storage product. I was called in to provide technical expertise for critical situations. I worked
with Development, Engineering, Test, RAS and others early in the development cycle to learn the designs and
implementation of systems/subsystems, plus acted as an interface to the field in resolving complex problems
for customers. As a PFE, I provided support to the ITS Remote Support Centers to develop and drive the
implementation of product repair, field management and problem resolution strategies. Responsibilities of this
role include using a number of problem reporting tools such as RETAIN (field call reporting system) and CMVC
(configuration management version control). I performed break-fix support, critical situation support, customer-
impact-event repair action analysis and field engineering change support. I participated in Early Ship Programs
in preparation for Post GA (General Availability).

My experience has been with configuration/management of DS6000 RAID-protected storage systems. Also
testing the hardware and software functionality of installed network systems using GUI and command line
queries and analysis, with a variety of network architecture and host configurations.
Mainly used Linux OS and commands on the IBM DS6000 storage unit. Windows and Unix were used for the
IBM pSeries host systems.
