ALIVIO is developing a mental health app called MHA that connects to EEG devices to measure brain activity and mental health conditions. The app will allow users to (1) do self-assessments of their mental condition, (2) record measurements and analyze results to determine their mental state, and (3) connect to and share data with healthcare providers if needed. For healthcare providers, the app provides access to patient data to assess mental health before appointments and allows constant monitoring of patient data to recommend treatment plans. The app collects daily mental activity data from brain stimulation devices that can be shared with healthcare providers like psychiatrists and neurologists for consultation and medical help.

There are currently EEG devices such as Emo v that do
measure brain ac vity but they are very expensive ranging
from $499-$1499 per month. Also, even though these
provide sta s cal data in the form of EEG raw data it is not
easily accessible since you must upload the informa on to
a flash drive and then transfer that data into your
computer. Along with this there is no data interpreta on
availablewiththisso ware,whichwillmakeitvery difficult

Currently,thereisnowayforpeopletoassesswhetherthey
are in a stable mental state, aside from seeing a psychiatrist
or a therapist. which many people view as the last resort.
People also don't like to admit that they have a problem
due to social concerns and don't seek help. The App
addresses issue by providing a basis for people to
determine whether they have some sort of mental
complica on through a self-assessment which asks
ques ons pertaining to various condi ons. Furthermore,
the app also offers sugges ons a er people take their
assessment as to what improvements they can make in
their daily lifestyle and depending on the severity, will

Currently, mental disorders are a serious issue in the US
with no effec ve self-assessment tools. There are brain
s mulators in the market that use waveforms to treat
various condi ons; however, they do not currently
measure the effec veness of the treatment imposed.
Moreover,theyarevery expensiveandunaffordable.Some
companies have also produced EEG devices but they’re
very expensive and they do not provide data interpreta on
ordirectresultstotheconsumers.
Some pa ents with mental illnesses undergo a specific
treatment known as Brain S mula on Therapy, which
involves the use of brain s mulators (as shown below).
These brain s mulators provide wavelengths to s mulate
the brain through the release of serotonin and other
neurochemicals that contribute to healthy mental ac vity.
Although this treatment method may provide temporary
relief, there is no way to measure the effec veness of it
other than witnessing and recording the symptoms of the
treatment.
According to the World Health Organiza on (WHO),
Neuropsychiatric Disorders, including Mental and
Behavioral Disorders as well as Neurological Disorders, are
the number one leading disorder that contributes to
Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs). DALYs represent the
totalnumber of years lost to illness. This shows that Mental
and Neurological Disorders take the largest amount of me
to cure since they account for the largest span of years
duringone'slife me.
Keeping these issues in mind in addi on to the problem
