NASAL CLEANSING WITH WATER
ONE OF THE SHAT KRIYA
MANDATORY IN BEGINNERS YOGA
PREPARATORY FOR ASANA (OR)
PRANAYAMA SESSION
What
Materials are
required?
SALT WATER
Plain luke warm in a container.
Prepare salty water to mix slowly to the luke warm water
Check continuously to get pleasant taste.
TEST
Temperature must be felt comfortable at
the dorsum of hand.
Salt must be pleasant enough to drink.
How to do? POSITION
Wide base of support in standing.
Bend from hips to 90 degrees.
Turn head to right side, open the mouth to breathe.
NEED HELP AT THE MOMENT?
Place the left hand over left knee to support or
Take support from wall in front or
Sit on a chair
FLOW OF WATER
Crown of the head and chin must be at equal level to allow
the water flow (with the help of gravity).
The water must flow out through lower nostril continuously.
Pauses of water flow confirms the mouth breathing.
Am I doing
correct or not?
TEST
If the flow is on to the cheeks, turn the head down a bit.
If the water is entering the throat, move the chin up a bit.
If the water is entering ears, move the crown up a bit.
Is it over? WINDING UP
Kapala bhati Pranayama: Quick and forceful exhalation
through both the nostrils while bending the neck, and
through upper nostril while turning the head to right and
left.
Bhramari Pranayama: Humming while bending neck.
Close the ears while doing this in the sun light.
TEST
Physical level: Mucosal cleaning
Physiological level: Continuous water flow against
sneeze, head ache
Pranic level: Clarity of breath through nostrils
Mental level: Presence of mind, alertness, better focus,
concentration ability, better sleep.
ENVIRONMENT
Sunlight is required to keep the body temperature optimal to withstand
this technique (cleaning of mucous layer).
Fever, nasal bleeding and rainy seasons should avoid this practice.
Sinusitis, common cold, throat infection, ear infections and nasal allergy
situations can be rectified slowly and progressively.
TEST
Sensations with cold water or normal temperature or too much salt or
sweet or oils can allow the student to experiment.
Try to do with a cotton thread or rubber tube which are mechanically
challenging materials to the mucous layer. This is the opportunity and
advancement (cope-up) to develop the resistance against the allergy.
When and
where to
practice
HORMONAL CHANGES
Pituitary gland releases all stimulating hormones in a balanced manner to
set Homeostasis.
Stress levels ceases by the diversion of perception from long standing
thoughts to self observation. This may be by Opioids from thalamus.
This is how the luminence of each cell sets forth and sets Aura.
PSYCHOLOGICAL CHANGES
Self observation during few seconds of practice, is "Meditation".
It improves creativity and ease during stressful situations, is "Sattvic".
Hence it is the early morning kriya before any other practice.
