The Killers - Sam's Town Digipak Analysis
1. According to photographer Anton
Corbijn, the band initially wanted a
"chic, gypsy look," for the album,
and that "out of those discussions
[for the sleeve] came these
elements of faded glory."
2. The band name: this is the Killers’ logo, which allows
their CDs to be recognised in shops. It appears on
their merchandise, their albums and their adverts.
The title: this, ‘Sam’s Town’, is the only part of the
digipak to contain colour. This might suggest a
dangerous element to the album, or may merely be
to make the title stand out.
3. All the artwork in this digipak is extremely
abstract and doesn’t link much to the album
itself. The band reportedly wanted a ‘gypsy
look’: perhaps they felt this to be relevant,
having made the music themselves.
One of the most striking images on the
digipak is that of the goat. It’s horns
perfectly follow the curve of the CD. It is
quite unusual for a CD to have purely a
picture without a band name on it, but this
is what the band have chosen to do.
4. The back cover is one of the most important parts of
the digipak as it contains the majority of the
institutional information.

A band picture: typical of the indie
rock genre as they tend to focus
heavily on the band itself.
