2. INTRO TO AYURVEDA
• Meaning: “Science of life”
• Follow the rhythms of nature
• Five elements make up everything in and around us
• Space
• Air
• Water
• Fire
• Earth
3. THE DOSHAS
The doshas are the three types with distinct qualities composed from the
five elements to help define our nature and the nature around us.
• Vata (air + space): Dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, mobile, clear
• Pitta (fire + water): Oily, sharp, hot, light, mobile, liquid
• Kapha (earth + water): heavy, dull, cool, smooth, soft, dense, stable,
sticky, unctuous
4. GOVERNING PRINCIPLES
• Ayurveda believes that like increases like
• Follow the rhythms of nature
• Use diet and lifestyle changes as medicine
5. CONSCIOUSNESS
• Above all else, Maharishi Ayurveda believes the body has an innate
ability to heal itself when given the right tools, proper environment and
use of self-referral mechanism
• Remove stress and other ama, increases consciousness and health
6. PRACTICE #1: LEMON WATER
• Dealing constipation, the first practice I began to implement was
drinking lemon water warm in the morning. This changed things
drastically for me. I go every morning now some ties without even using
the lemon water.
7. PRACTICE #2: ABHYANGA
• The second practice I undertook was abhyanga to help soothe the
nervous system. It’s been helpful in soothing the nervous system but
also lubricating joints. I have some old injury to some joints (ankle &
wrist) and making them feel better.
8. PRACTICE #3: LUNCH AS BIGGEST MEAL
• The last practice is switching lunch to my largest meal. This has been a
challenge but it makes me feel much better when I try to stick to it. My
bowel movements are more regular, my tongue clearer in the morning,
and just overall good feeling
9. CONCLUSION
• Ayurveda has shifted my life to be more in line with nature’s cycles, as
well as my own unique physiology. It’s provided a way to work with
nature to restore balance within on a deep level.
