The document discusses the brand identities of several famous companies:
- Coca-Cola began in 1886 when John Pemberton created a unique soft drink and marketed it using festive imagery like Santa Claus.
- KFC was founded by Colonel Sanders, who branded himself and appeared in advertisements to promote his fried chicken restaurants.
- Nike's first shoes were made in a waffle iron, and the swoosh logo was designed for $35; their first athlete endorsement was Ilie Nastase.
- Apple was co-founded by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in a garage in 1976, and their first product was the Apple I computer kit.
2. BORN IN THE USA: COCA-COLA
The Coca Cola history officially began in 1886. This was when a
pharmacist in Atlanta called Dr. John S. Pemberton began
experimenting with a unique soft-drink he could sell at soda
fountains.
The Coca Cola syrup was mixed with carbonated water at a local
pharmacy and deemed “excellent” by everyone who tasted it. Yet,
Pemberton struggled to achieve any measurable success, because
he had no real marketing plan to work with.
3. HOLIDAYS ARE COMING: THE STORY OF A
COCA COLA CHRISTMAS
Of course, it’s hard to talk about Coca Cola branding without
diving into a story about the company’s festive connections.
Today, a lot of people still believe that Coke is responsible
for inventing the Santa Claus we know today – dressing
them in their trademark red and white colours to push their
own brand awareness strategies.
4. KFC(KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN)
KFC-was founded by Colonel Harland Sanders, an
entrepreneur who began selling fried chicken from
his roadside restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky.
Branding himself "Colonel Sanders", the founder
became a prominent figure of American cultural
history, and his image remains widely used in KFC
advertising.
5. NIKE
The first Nike shoes were made inside a waffle iron.
Bowerman's first eureka moment for footwear innovation
came in 1971, when he and his wife were making waffles for
breakfast: It sparked an idea for a grooved pattern on the
sole of trainers to help athletes grip running tracks. It
spawned the "Nike Waffle Trainer," patented in 1974 (at the
expense of his wife Barbara's waffle iron).
6. The Nike swoosh was designed by Portland
State University student Carolyn Davidson,
for just $35
Romanian tennis professional Ilie Nastase, "the
Bucharest Buffoon," was the first athlete to sign an
endorsement contract with Nike, in 1972.
7. APPLE
Apple was cofounded on April 1, 1976, by Steve Jobs
and Steve Wozniak in Los Altos, California.
Wayne sketched the first Apple logo by hand.
Apple's first "offices" was the garage of Jobs'
parents.
8. The company's first product was the Apple I,
which was just a motherboard with a processor
and some memory, intended for hobbyists.
Customers had to build their own case and add
their own keyboard and monitor, as seen in the
picture.
It sold for $666.66
