6. WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR COVER LETTER?
When writing your cover letter, you must use the following basic
structure:
ï¶ Introduction: Carefully written to grab the hiring managerâs
attention and explain why you want the job.
ï¶ Body paragraphs: At least two paragraphs detailing your
relevant education, skills, work experience, and suitability for
the job.
ï¶ Conclusion: A concise ending that reiterates your strengths,
and asks the hiring manager to contact you (known as a call to
action). 6
7. Step 1: Put your contact details (and the employerâs) in the header
Contact Details:-
At the top of your cover letter, you should type:
ï Your first and last name
ï Your email address (make sure itâs professional,
and not ridikulus_clownz@gmail.com)
ï Your phone number
ï Your mailing address (Optional)
ï Your LinkedIn profile link (Optional) 7
8. Under your contact
details, you should type:
1. Todayâs date
2. The first and last name of the
person youâre writing to, or
the relevant department
3. The companyâs address
4. The companyâs phone
number
5. The hiring manager or
companyâs email address
8
9. Step 2: Address the hiring manager by their name
Opening Salutation
Make a great first impression by addressing your cover letter to a real person using
their name.
Not sure who to address? Try checking the company website, searching LinkedIn, or
even calling or emailing human resources to ask. If youâre still having problems
addressing your cover letter, follow these tips:
ï” If youâre not certain about the recruiterâs title (like Mr., Mrs., Ms., Dr., etc.,) you can
drop it from your salutation. For instance, âDear Jane Smithâ is acceptable.
ï” If you canât figure out who the recruiter is, you can guess. For instance, if youâre
applying for a marketing position, you can address the marketing director by
name instead.
ï” If you canât find anyoneâs name, you can address it to the department. For
instance, âDear Marketing Departmentâ is acceptable.
9
11. Step 3: Hook the hiring manager with a strong
introduction
Intro Paragraph
A successful cover letter introduction must include the following:
1. Job position: The name of the position youâre applying for
2. Company name: The name of the company youâre applying for
3. Intention to apply: An enthusiastic announcement that youâre applying for that
position
11
14. Step 4: Prove that youâre the perfect
candidate for the job
Body Paragraphs
To write these paragraphs well, and sell yourself as great candidate, remember three main points:
Be bold, but donât brag: A strong cover letter conveys confidence. If youâre able to provide evidence
for a claim (like that youâre the best candidate for the job), put that evidence in your cover letter.
But donât make wild and factless claims about your abilities.
Be honest, and donât embellish: Donât lie or even stretch the truth about your experience, as
getting caught could devastate your career. Itâs not necessary anyway â youâll get a job with the
experience youâve got.
Donât include irrelevant information: Your cover letter should be tailored to the job and company
youâre applying for. Your cover letter (and resume) should respond to the job posting, directly
referencing the skills and qualifications outlined by the recruiter.

history in order of when you held each position, with your most
recent job listed at the top of the section (i.e. reverse-chronological
order).
Chronological resume
48
49. Who should use it?
ï” A chronological resume is
ideal if you have no
major gaps between your
previous jobs, consistent
progression throughout
your career, and a long
record of
accomplishments and
skills in the industry
youâre applying to.
49
50. Advantages of chronological resume:
ï” It lets the hiring manager easily see how youâve progressed in your career
ï” It puts your most relevant work experience at the top, where itâll be seen
first
50
51. Hereâs what a standard
chronological resume
looks like:
51
52. How to write
a
chronological
resume?
1. Put your contact information at the top
List the following information at the top of the page in
your resume header:
ï” First and last name
ï” Email address
ï” Phone number
2. Open with a strong resume introduction
ï” One of the best ways to get employers to read your
resume is by starting it off with a convincing resume
summary.
3. Write your work experience in reverse chronological order
ï” Your resumeâs work experience section is the core of a
chronological resume.
52
53. How to write a
chronological
resume?
4. Include a brief education section
Unless youâre a student or a recent college
graduate, your resumeâs education section
should be short and simple.
5. List your relevant skills
Include a skills section on your resume and list out
any hard or soft skills you didnât have an
opportunity to specify in your experience section.
53
57. Here we will learn
1.What It Is?
2.How to write
it ?
3.Who should
write it ?
57
58. The functional resume is specifically designed to
focus on your relevant skills rather than your work
experience.
Instead of a work experience section, a functional
resume contains expanded skills and
accomplishments sections. It may also include
resume summary or resume objective sections.
1.What is it?
58
60. 3.Who Should Use It?
A functional resume will likely suit you if youâre:
New to the workforce
Changing industries
Someone with sizeable gaps in your work history
60
61. Difference between chronological and functional resume
The biggest difference between a functional
resume and a standard chronological resume is
that a functional resume groups your experience
under skill categories instead of job titles. Under
each skill category, bullet points are used to
highlight examples of your skills, and those
examples can come from both work and life
experiences.
61
62. Targeted resume
A targeted resume focuses on a specific job
opening. The targeted resume is written to
highlight the skills and experiences relevant to a
particular position
When sending targeted resumes, the resume
will be edited or rewritten for each job to which
the candidate applies.
62
63. Far too many job seekers continue to use the same
resume for every job application. While this sounds like a
great idea in principle, it can prove disastrous in practice.
Generic resumes may do an effective job highlighting
your skills and experience, but theyâre less effective at
selling you as the ideal fit for any job opening. To
accomplish that feat, you need to rely on a more specific
type of resume . Generic resumes may have worked
decades ago, but thatâs no longer the case. Thanks to
increased job competition, todayâs employers can be
more selective about who they hire.
Why should job seekers use it?
63
64. The easiest way to target your resume (without rewriting the whole resume) is to include a
Resume Summary of Qualifications, a Profile, or Career Highlights section at the top of your
resume.
Mention the company by name.
Use the same job title as the job description.
Include 1â3 skills they really want.
Add your greatest 2â3 accomplishments that prove you own those skills.
If they mention required years of experience, show you have them
Tips for targeting your resume
64
66. Grabs the attention of employers
The part of the resume known as "above the fold"âusually the top
quarter of the resumeâis considered the most attention-grabbing.
Make sure to include important summarized information above the
fold in addition to your name and contact information.
Another way you can get an employer's attention is to use a layout
that allows for appropriate colour or images.
Some people will use a headshot portrait or personal logo to
brand themselves to employers. If you have to print your resume,
always make sure to use a resume paper stock that sticks out.
There are a lot of options to choose from, so pay attention to
industry standards when deciding on paper
66
67. More importantly, a resume shouldn't just offer skills and
experience, it should tell employers what you bring to the
company.
For example, if you're leaving a sales position, instead of just
saying that you are a "high performer," say you "achieved
$250,000 of new media sales in one year". This allows
employers to understand the value you bring to the
company in quantifiable terms.
If you can use three or four achievements under each
piece or relevant experience that offer verifiable metrics.
Consider things like increasing profit or reducing loss by
5%, growing a social media following by 1,500 users or
increasing sales by 10%.
Displays the benefits you offer employers
67
68. A well-structured resume clearly highlights your most
attractive skills and experience to potential employers.
This allows them to move forward with the best
candidate.
It's important to make sure your most recent skills and
experiences are reflected in your resume for this reason.
A strong resume uses formatting elements like colour,
appropriate margins and design to ensure relevant work
experience is shown in such a way that highlights
achievements
Outlines your relevant skills and experience
68
69. A good resume matches your skills to the position's needs.
One way to do this is by making sure your resume contains the
same keywords found in the job description.
For example, if the job description asks for "knowledge of
JSON" make sure to include "JSON" on your resume. By doing
this, employers will be able to filter what makes you good for
the position. If submitting your resume electronically, some
companies auto-sort by keywords. To ensure your resume is
seen, you should pay attention to them.
Matches you to the position
69
70. Donât use fancy paper or coloured paper. Use quality white
A4 sheet.
Donât use jargons or slangs in your resume.
Do not include information that might sound negative in the
eyes of the employer
Donât include irrelevant information.
Donât copy paste matter from net, prefer retyping
Donât fold your Resume, esp. over the text line.
