Advances in Social Science Research Methods
1.
2. Conceptnote. Thanks to technological advances, social and behavioural research are in the fast lane of
development—modernising the need to balance empirical research with qualitative ways of knowing.
While quantitative methodologies are evolving and unfolding with the aid of computing technologies, the
Internet and the wealth of data that the latter offers, on the other side of the spectrum, qualitative research is
coping with such scholarly drift. Going by the developing discourse surrounding social science research using
mixed methodologies, it can be evenly accepted that combining qualitative and quantitative research
methodologies can widen the breadth and depth of scientific understanding and add credence to scholarly
inquiry. To bridge the qualitative-quantitative gap and offer an objective-methodical understructure for the
young social scientist to build a research career upon, we bring together a collection of lectures from experts in
mixed methods research (MMR) in this Capacity Building Programme.
