INTRODUCTION :
Seminars are simply a group of peoplecomming
toghter for discussion & learning of specific techniques
& topics.
The seminar method is the most modern & advanced
method of teaching.
It is instructional technique it involves generating a
situation for a group to have a guided interaction
among themselves on a theme.
MEANING :
The word ‘seminar’ is derived from the latin
word seminarian,meaning “seed plot”.
In another way exchange of ideas in some
particular area guided , discussion of
concepts.
DEFINITION :
1. Seminar is a group of members come together exchange view
of current problems to share with others their own
experiences, experiment , discoveries.
2. A seminar is a teaching technique for higher learning, A
specific subject or topic sis delivered as an article or report sin
the seminar. The article and its concepts submitted in the
seminar are analyzed and discussed through the group
discussion to arrive a final decision or concept.
TYPES OF SEMINAR :
Seminar are conducted in various stages.Based on the
size and organizational aspescts the seminars can be
classified in to four types.
1. Mini seminar 2. major seminar
3. National seminar 4. International seminar
1. Mini Seminar :
A small population is enough to hold this seminar. Such
group discussion held within a class room, it is called
mini seminar. This mini seminar gives the students
training in questioning skill, organizing the
information and presentation skills of seminar.
2. Major seminar :
The seminar conducted at an institutional or departmental
level for a specific topic or subject is known as major
seminar. Ussually student and teachers are
participating in this types of seminar.
3. National Seminar :
An association of with academic or professional interest
or an organization conducts the seminar at National
level is called National Seminar . The subject experts
are invited to the seminar for discussion.
4. International Seminar :
Usally the seminar conducted bu an international
organization or agency is known as international
seminar . Theme of this seminar has wider aspsects as
Globalization, Renovation and Atomic energy
agreementss,policies implemention and modification
etc
OBJECTIVES OF SEMINAR :
1. To give student opportunity to participate in method
of scientific analysis & research procedures.
2. To promote deeper understanding about attitudes,
interests & develop desirable interpersonal
relationships –desirable group process.
3. To help the students to develop skills in reading and
comprehension of scientific writing of verbal
presentation.
4. It enables the students to gain experience in self-
evaluation & in other.
PURPOSES OF SEMINAR :
1. Help the student to study the subject matter.
2. It requires a background of knowledge skills in library
work.
3. Help in problem solving skills.
4. Help in students to increase their responsibilities & to
exchange their attitude & values
SEMINAR COMMITTEE :
1. Chairperson or president/Convener of seminar.
2. Organizing Secretary of seminar.
3. Chairperson of the Technical session of Seminar.
4. Speaker of seminar.
5. Participants/paper presenters of seminar .
Areas involve in seminar :
Seminar is useful in –
1. Teaching professional development.
2. Administrative abilities.
3. Ethical & legal issues.
• The art of presentation.
• Meaning full interaction with audience.
ADVANTAGE OF SEMINAR :
This seminar method gives good motivation and learning
experience.
Helps to evaluate the learn ability of learners.
Regulate the creating and organizing of fact and
information.
Develop the self reliance & self confidence.
This method is the best for socialization.
Ensure the understandability and enhances the capability of
the students learning.
Seminar is always subject/ theme specific, so that sufficient
knowledge about the concerned subject can be developed.

Develop the questioning skills.
The data processing analysis also play a vital role in this
method.
This makes teaching learning process lively.
The student receives good information from his teacher
and the fellow students.
DIS-ADVANTAGE OF SEMINAR :
1. Costely.
2. Rely on resource person knowledge
STEPS IN A SEMINAR :
1. Establish a safe enviroment.
2. Coach student on expection .
3. Choose a selection carefully assign it to the class.
4. Read & study selection carefully making note where
necessary.
5. Prepare the opening ,core & closing questions.
6. Prepare the room physically by arranging chair, desks in a
circles.
7. begin the seminar .
8. Process & evaluate the seminar with the class after word.
9. Reflects personally on the experience , fine tuning for
future use.
REQUIREMENTS OF SEMINAR :
Teacher is a leader.
10-15 members are participants.
The topic is presented by the students taking 15-20
minutes time.
Duration is 1-2hours.
Leader should keep the discussion within the limits of
problem discussesd.
Role of members of seminar :
STUDENTS :
Expected to do library work.
Collect the appropriate relevant contents,
Utilize the A.V.aids.
Should be well prepared before presentation.
TEACHER :
Help the students to select appropriate topic.
Guide the students to select the contents.
Suggest a available sources of information.
EVALUATION OF SEMINAR :
The evaluation must be made to get the immediate feed
back from the speaker and
Participants regarding, the seminar paper and other
seminar details .
The objectivity of the paper presented , the view of
audience also need be evaluated.
The observation schedule, questionnaire can be used as
evaluation tools for seminar.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEMINAR AND
LACTURE METHOD :
A lecture is when a professor or teacher stand in front of
large class and just gives the information that is
required by the student. A seminar, on the other hand is
a more discussion oriented lesson.
 A seminar is “ a small group of students, meeting for
exchanging information and holding discussion.”
whereas , a lecture is “A speech read or delivered before
an audience or class, specially for instruction.

INTRODUCTION : Seminars are simply a group of peoplecomming toghter for discussion & learning of specific techniques & topics. The seminar method is the most modern & advanced method of teaching. It is instructional technique it involves generating a situation for a group to have a guided interaction among themselves on a theme.
  • 3. MEANING : The word ‘seminar’ is derived from the latin word seminarian,meaning “seed plot”. In another way exchange of ideas in some particular area guided , discussion of concepts.

A seminar is a teaching technique for higher learning, A specific subject or topic sis delivered as an article or report sin the seminar. The article and its concepts submitted in the seminar are analyzed and discussed through the group discussion to arrive a final decision or concept.

  • 6. 1. Mini Seminar : A small population is enough to hold this seminar. Such group discussion held within a class room, it is called mini seminar. This mini seminar gives the students training in questioning skill, organizing the information and presentation skills of seminar. 2. Major seminar : The seminar conducted at an institutional or departmental level for a specific topic or subject is known as major seminar. Ussually student and teachers are participating in this types of seminar.

The subject experts are invited to the seminar for discussion. 4. International Seminar : Usally the seminar conducted bu an international organization or agency is known as international seminar . Theme of this seminar has wider aspsects as Globalization, Renovation and Atomic energy agreementss,policies implemention and modification etc

Read & study selection carefully making note where necessary. 5. Prepare the opening ,core & closing questions. 6. Prepare the room physically by arranging chair, desks in a circles. 7. begin the seminar . 8. Process & evaluate the seminar with the class after word. 9.   • 15. REQUIREMENTS OF SEMINAR : Teacher is a leader. 10-15 members are participants. The topic is presented by the students taking 15-20 minutes time. Duration is 1-2hours. Leader should keep the discussion within the limits of problem discussesd.
  • 16. Role of members of seminar : STUDENTS : Expected to do library work. Collect the appropriate relevant contents, Utilize the A.V.aids. Should be well prepared before presentation. TEACHER : Help the students to select appropriate topic. Guide the students to select the contents. Suggest a available sources of information.

EVALUATION OF SEMINAR : The evaluation must be made to get the immediate feed back from the speaker and Participants regarding, the seminar paper and other seminar details . The objectivity of the paper presented , the view of audience also need be evaluated. The observation schedule, questionnaire can be used as evaluation tools for seminar.
  • 18. DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEMINAR AND LACTURE METHOD : A lecture is when a professor or teacher stand in front of large class and just gives the information that is required by the student. A seminar, on the other hand is a more discussion oriented lesson.  A seminar is “ a small group of students, meeting for exchanging information and holding discussion.” whereas , a lecture is “A speech read or delivered before an audience or class, specially for instruction.
