2. OUR SCHOOL IS IN TIROL, ONE OF THE NINE
FEDERAL STATES IN AUSTRIA.
THE DISTANCE BETWEEN HAIMING AND VIENNA,
OUR CAPITAL, IS ABOUT 600 KM.

3. TIROL LIES IN THE WEST OF AUSTRIA AND
COVERS AN AREA OF 12.648 KM2.
AUSTRIA HAS A POPULATION OF 8.7
MILLION PEOPLE, ABOUT 750.000 OF THEM
LIVE IN OUR PART OF THE COUNTRY.

4. TIROL’S CAPITAL IS INNSBRUCK,
A WORLD FAMOUS CITY WITH LOTS OF
INTERESTING SIGHTS LIKE THE GOLDEN
ROOF OR THE BERG ISEL SKI-JUMP.

5. Our country is in the heart of the Alps and so tourism
is the most important factor of our economy.

6. But there are also big industrial companies like
SWAROVSKI or PLANSEE and lots of small
enterprises working in different areas.

7. FARMING is still a basic factor for the
economy and for preserving our
unique environment.

8. Our school is in HAIMING, 50 km
west of Innsbruck. Haiming has
about 4.900 inhabitants and lies on a
height of 666 m above the sea level.
It is surrounded by mountains of up
to 3.000 m.

9. Our school is the NEW MIDDLE
SCHOOL HAIMING with 9 different
classes in four grades – this means
about 180 students who
are between ten and
fourteen years old.
The students come from
four different primary
schools to our secondary
school.

10. In the cellar there are the cloak
rooms, our gym and the workshops.
On the ground floor there is our
library and the classrooms of the first
grades. Also our science room is
there.

11. On the first floor there are all
the other classrooms and the
staff room which is where all
the teachers sit together and
do some work. We have about
28 teachers.
On the second floor there are
the IT rooms, our school
kitchen and our “Lernateliers”
(learning studios).

12. Our school building is opened at 7:25,
classes start at 7:40. A school day consists
of 6 lessons in the morning with four 5-
minute breaks and one big break which
lasts for 10 minutes. One lesson at our
school lasts 50 minutes.
On Mondays and Thursdays we have
afternoon lessons from 13:55 until half
past three or half past four, but on Friday
we only have 5 lessons. Then we leave
school at 12:15.

13. The subjects in our school are maths,
English, German, history, religious studies,
biology, geography, P.E., physics, food
technology, art and design, music, IT, Italian
and chemistry.
There are some extra lessons we can
choose: football (girls/boys), orienteering or
the school choir, which are not compulsory.

14. At our school we have a buddy
project with different buddies, who
help the teachers with various tasks
at school like taking care of our first
graders or helping in the library or
with the snacks in the big break.

15. We can enjoy special weeks during
our school life at the NMS Haiming:
there‘s a swimming week, a winter
sports week, a summer sports week
and we also go to Vienna for a week.

16. And sometimes, a group of
students also gets the
great chance to visit our
partner countries of the
Erasmus+ project
