2. Our school system
There are different levels of education in Italy, they start from
nurseries and kindergarten, where you can play and spend time with
peers till four or five in the afternoon, before you go back home. In a
nursery there are children aged 0-2/3; in a kindergarten they are 2/3
years old to 5/6 years old. But this education is not compulsory.
In primary school, you have different teachers for each subject area
and you start learning in the basic subjects – Italian, Maths, Science,
Geography, ... the aim is to prepare pupils for the next school.
At secondary school you raise your level in the different subjects, and
you have a teacher for each subject. Secondary school is distinguished
into lower and upper. Lower secondary lasts three years – 10/11-
13/14 – while upper secondary goes up to the age of 18/19 and you
have a choice of different schools: a liceo, for general upper education
but with different timetables in different departments, or a vocational
school, where you can specialize in different fields. After that, there’s
university.
Education here is compulsory up to the age of 16.
4. My school is called Liceo Dal Piaz and it's quite big. There are 4
different departments: Scientific, which I attend, Applied Sciences,
Linguistic and Humanities oriented. The students are about 700
and the teachers who teach in my class are 9; the subjects I study
are maths, science, history, geography, gym, art, physics, English,
religion and Italian.
In the main building there are a lot of classes, an Aula Magna, a
big room for meetings, performances or science activities, and the
teachers’ room.

5. Other rooms are for laboratories and a library; there’s also a gym. The labs
are all well equipped with lots of instruments, one is for physics, one for
chemistry and science; there are also an observatory and a planetarium; they
are well kept and always clean. The gym is very big and it can be used for
different activities; on the floor there are stripes for various sports, in fact
you can play basketball, volleyball and handball.
This is my school.

rehearsing with the drama group or taking extra classes in
