1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
I would want my magazine to be easy to get hold of by the readers. I would like it to be
distributed in local shops and supermarkets such as Tesco, Marks and Spencers, Sainsbury…
This is because they are big supermarkets and they are all over the place, making it easier for
my magazine to get hold of. I would also like my magazine to be sold in stores such as
Waterstones and WHSmith due to them being rather popular and professional.
The BBC is the oldest broadcasting corporation in this country. BBC stands for British
Broadcasting Corporation. The BBC is the world’s oldest national broadcasting organisation.
Britains first live public broadcast from the Marconi factory in Chelmsford took place in June
1920. The Melba broadcast caught the people’s imaginations and marked a turning point in the
attitudes of British radio’s. By 1922 the GPO had received nearly 100 broadcasts license
requests. British radio was becoming more popular day by day. From 1923 to 1926 British radio
became a public service corporation rather than a private company. The success of the wireless
broadcasting became a big hit with the BBC, people had become fond of it and again it became
more popular everyday. Over the next several years the BBC radio had interviews, reports, live
singing… which was admired by the public audience. Over a few more years the BBC was not
just on radio but; newspapers, TV, Music, News, Sports, internet… The BBC is now the most
popular broadcasting company national.
I would want the BBC to distribute my magazine due to it being one of the most popular TV
companies of the United Kingdom. This will allow my magazine to become more popular and
more people will hear about it. Also, the BBC is associated and also distributes The Top Of The
Pops which is one of the most popular pop music magazines out there. This will widen my
readership and it will also appeal to my target audience as they will know of the BBC and would
have seen something from it.
The only problem with my magazine being distributed by the BBC is that because they are such
a big company, I may not be able to give in my ideas of how I would like it to be sold. They may
take too much control due to them being so high up. This is my only fear.
2. As the BBC distribute one of the most successful teen magazines ever, Top Of The Pops, this
interests me due to them being very popular and well known. This is a link to my case study
about Top Of The Pops;
