The document describes screenshots of a contents page created for a music magazine. It includes elements like the magazine masthead, editor's letter, feature contents with page numbers aligned on the left, main image focusing on an artist, caption for the main image framing it and including the page number, a smaller subsidiary image from a gig with caption and page number, social media information, the editor's signature under the letter, and a page number for the contents page itself. These elements were included to follow conventions of other music magazines and strengthen the magazine's brand.
2. I created my contents page on InDesign and copied the masthead from my front cover to
my contents page. I did this to strengthen the brand and reinforce the brand name so that
the audience become familiar with it, also most music magazines do this as well such as
Classic Rock and Q. The majority of music magazines have the title ‘Contents’ on their
contents page this therefore indicates that this is the contents page.
3. In this screenshot, I have added the Editor’s letter which is found on most magazines, this
tells the reader what they can expect from the magazine, in this case it also tells the reader
that this is the first issue of the magazine and tells them to subscribe.
I have also added the feature contents onto the contents page, with the page numbers
aligned on the left side as this follows the codes and conventions of a magazine contents
page. I have followed the colour scheme that I have set for my rock magazine from the
feedback of the questionnaire from my target audience.
4. On this screenshot, I have added the regular content with the page numbers aligned to
the left, following the codes and conventions of a magazine contents page. The titles,
‘Feature’ and ‘Regulars’ is bold and surrounded by a black box, I have decided to do this as
I have seen this is another music magazine called NME.
5. In this screenshot, I have added my main image that is the focus of the magazine, this
can be shown by the fact that I have sized the image to take up a lot of space which tells
the audience that it is the main focus of the magazine. The image is a medium close up
of the artist, I have done this because it can be seen that in the magazines, Q and
KERRANG, they also use this shot type for their images in their contents pages.
6. I have added the caption of the main image to the side of the image which has also
been organised to frame the image. This contains the page number for the article that
the main image is focused on, I have done this because it can be seen in other music
magazines that they have also done this such as NME and Q.
7. In this screenshot, I have added a subsidiary image taken at the gig at which I interviewed
High Tyde at, this is an original image that I have taken. I have added this because most
music magazines have other images that are smaller on their contents page, this is capture
the audiences other interests.
8. Similarly to the main image on the contents page, I have added a caption underneath
the subsidiary image with the page number. I have done this because it is seen in other
music magazines, such as NME, that they have also done this.
9. In this screenshot, I have added the social media for the magazine, this is seen in other
music magazines and also helps to reinforce the brand so that the audience becomes
more familiar with it.
10. In this screenshot I have added the editor’s signature underneath the editor’s letter, this is
because it is one of the codes and conventions of a music magazine contents page to
include the editor’s signature underneath the editor’s letter.
11. In this screenshot, at the bottom of the contents page is the page number for the contents
page as the contents page must include a page number according to the codes and
conventions of a music magazine contents page. This is seen on every music magazine
including Q.
