Initial Reaction
I would like to make a marketing campaign for a fictional film or series in the form of posters, graphics and
cases for a special edition copy of the media. I would not create the actual film or the trailer that I plan, as I
would like to focus on the graphics of the campaign and make the art for the posters and cover of the disk. I
feel that I am competent enough in Photoshop to make all the graphics that I envisage. However I am much
less experienced in after effects and making films. I could make a collectors edition of a box set or film and
make different items to go with the film. Otherwise I would go with my first idea of making a trailer for a film
and make the posters for it.
I think that my series/film could be a mature, sci-fi themed setting or a cartoon series. If it is a film with real
actors and not animated / graphics with primary images, then I can edit the images more and it would take less
time than making them all from scratch in a cartoon form. In addition this would be better because I can use an
actor from my class and get different images from the college grounds very easily.
There would be 3 main types of graphics to make. The first is the cover of the CD case and is what the movie or
series is packaged in when purchased from a shop. This can be unique for the special addition making it more
collectable and exclusive. The second being the graphics of the box that the CD case comes in, this needs to be
the main graphic and be the main reason to get the special edition of the media. This will need to have an
interesting and unique feature to make it more than just the product in a different packaging. The final graphic
is the additional and extras inside the box that can include posters, leaflets, calendars and much more.

Mood Board Analysis
All of the images that I have collected in my first mood board are of a dark tone and colour pallets
mainly consist of blacks, dark reds and blues. This is because my product would be in a police
crime setting and many other shows and films use this colour pallet and dark themes. Blues and
reds are associated with law enforcement and other emergency services. Another similarity is
the urban environments depicted in the mood board. Many of the images contain cars, city
locations and bright lights contrasting with the dark. This is also relevant to the themes that I
want to portray in my product. The similarity will almost all of the images is the contrast
between dark and light in the image. This makes the image more dramatic and cinematic. Some
of the fonts used in the mood board are very modern and urban fonts that fit well with the urban
setting. One specific example is the TV series poster ’24’ uses a similar font to what is seen on a
calculator making the poster look modern and clinical.
This mood board will influence my final product by giving me source material to base a police,
crime, drama show by showing me many of the primary colours that help depict a dark
crime scene. This is improtant as if the colour scheme of my project is not right it may be
difficult to tell that the series would be set in a police setting as there would be lots of other
elements to a police drama such as supernatural elements.
This mood board will also help my final product as it has shown me that I like the idea of a crime
drama set in a city and that the theme works quite well, furthermore it is an easy theme to
tell as many of the images In the mood board have very little detail or have motion blur. This
means the colours alone can tell the story of the setting and the city with the police themes
fits perfectly in the form of a image.
However one thing I did take form this mood board is that not all my work can be set at night as it
will overpower any other themes that I might want to include into my work and so my work
cannot always have dark backgrouds and needs some variation to keep it interseting and
engadgin.
Mood Board Analysis
In the images that I have collected they are all form the Marvel comics and DC comic book
cinematic universes. This is because they are the two main studios responsible for the large
amount of high budget superhero films. The photos on the far right of the mood board
have very light colours and usually feature 2 main colours. One example is the orange and
blue form the top right image or the red and orange form the Spiderman image. All of the
images in this mood board feature a primary colour at a high saturation compared to the
rest. This is most noticeable on the captain marvel image on the left with her red tunic. This
draws attention to the colour as it sticks out from the rest of the darker or less saturated
tones around it that make up the background. All of the images used have a unrealistic look
to them and are all fantasy images.
This mood board will influence my final product by giving me source material to base a
police, crime, drama show by showing me ways to incorporate bright and highly saturated
colours into a scene. This is important as I want to have my series theme be serious with
the police but potentially have a comic book side that is bright and has a nicer tone. The
images in this are more extreme than I would use in any of my graphics in my product as it
would conflict too strongly with the dark themes of the police. However the batman Vs
Superman image in the top left shows bright colours while still having a serious theme. This
may be more what I aim for when making the posters and box set
Summery
For my final project after looking at all of my mind maps and mood boards it is clear to me that the police and
superhero themes are the two ideas I have developed the most and would work well in a series form.
The superhero theme would work well by itself as many series and films are very successful and have good
marketing campaigns that I like with the films and content. However there are two main problems with
executing this theme on its own. The first is that I would need a large amount of props to make this theme look
professional and this would cost more money than I would have available for my FMP. This would include the
superhero costume and other props common to a superhero product. I would preform some experiments to
see if I could make it look good without items like these however I am concerned with spending research and
pre-production time on something that may not even work as I have very limited time. The other issue is that
superhero advertisements along with being very expensive to make are usually very similar to each other and
in a very particular style. This makes the themes of superhero's oversaturated and the marketing is usually not
very interesting and very bland. I don’t want to replicate this is my FMP. On the other hand superhero adverts
are quick to make so I could incorporate the ideas of making the multiple posters of all the characters and
incorporating a colour scheme for each character.
The other theme that I looked at in detail both in my mood boards and my mind maps is the "Crime" and
"Police" themes. These work well as they are much easier to incorperate props and would give me much more
room to take primary images and do photoshoots that I could use with little editing and only simple
photoshop. Although like the superhero theme it has been done many times over the years. This means it is
harder for the crime drama to be original. This gave me the idea that I could add some sort of Sci-Fi element to
make it original. This would allow me to keep the police colours and themes while having an original plot and
incorperate some of the ideas from the superhero consepts. This would also be efficient as I am also using all of
my planning and reseach I have conducted so far.

Summery For my final project after looking at all of my mind maps and mood boards it is clear to me that the police and superhero themes are the two ideas I have developed the most and would work well in a series form. The superhero theme would work well by itself as many series and films are very successful and have good marketing campaigns that I like with the films and content. However there are two main problems with executing this theme on its own. The first is that I would need a large amount of props to make this theme look professional and this would cost more money than I would have available for my FMP. This would include the superhero costume and other props common to a superhero product. I would preform some experiments to see if I could make it look good without items like these however I am concerned with spending research and pre-production time on something that may not even work as I have very limited time. The other issue is that superhero advertisements along with being very expensive to make are usually very similar to each other and in a very particular style. This makes the themes of superhero's oversaturated and the marketing is usually not very interesting and very bland. I don’t want to replicate this is my FMP. On the other hand superhero adverts are quick to make so I could incorporate the ideas of making the multiple posters of all the characters and incorporating a colour scheme for each character. The other theme that I looked at in detail both in my mood boards and my mind maps is the "Crime" and "Police" themes. These work well as they are much easier to incorperate props and would give me much more room to take primary images and do photoshoots that I could use with little editing and only simple photoshop. Although like the superhero theme it has been done many times over the years. This means it is harder for the crime drama to be original. This gave me the idea that I could add some sort of Sci-Fi element to make it original. This would allow me to keep the police colours and themes while having an original plot and incorperate some of the ideas from the superhero consepts. This would also be efficient as I am also using all of my planning and reseach I have conducted so far.
