How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?

2. Initial ideas.
When we were gathering ideas about the ancillary tasks, we thought into detail about how
we could combine features from the original video to give our project and overall look. We
wanted to keep to the main colour scheme throughout both the video and ancillary texts but
choosing this was challenging as the original music video covers several links to:
• Nature
• Drugs
• Poverty
We chose the theme of nature as the original video was based outside, after choosing this
theme we felt we needed to choose a block colour that we were gong to stick to, this was
because we wanted the digipak, poster and music video. We came up with:
• Green
• Black
• White
• Grey
After having a group discussion about which colour would work best, we chose black and
green.
Green represents the outside and nature theme.
Black is a dull colour which links to the genre of the music, it
shows emotion and difficulty within the video.
By keeping the same theme throughout it will be recognisable to the audience that the music video
belongs to the digipak and magazine advert.

3. I feel our ancillary texts and the main product relate very well to each other, we kept a variety
of features the same and these consist of:
• Colour scheme
•Underlying theme of nature
•Font
•Outdoors
The concrete background
relates to the nature theme,
this was also great to use as it
consists of a plain background
which makes the picture easy
to edit in photo shop so we
can place it into our ancillary
task successfully.
We kept the outdoor nature theme even when taking our photo’s and actually filming the
music video. We were very specific with where we filmed as we wanted to be able to link
it back to the ancillary texts. The photo’s of our artist were taken against a plain, concrete
background this was done to interpret the theme of outdoors.

4. The costume we chose our artist to wear in the music video reflects on the theme and
genre of our video. This is another part where we looked into the Mise en scene that
should be included to relate to the Indie genre.

5. Here are our finished ancillary texts. As I previously discussed about the nature theme, you can now see it
first hand. I feel the green colour scheme is very prominent, and obvious throughout which relates to the
texts reflecting on the main product working very well coincide each other.
Even though each page is visually different, we have kept to the same theme by using similar features
such as: black and white images, green colour scheme, page pattern of green flowers and same font.
