School magazine evaluation

1. Feature Photo:
Shows one of the facilities available
at the school and also shows a
student using these facilities proving
that the library is accessible to
students.
Things to improve:
• Have a less busy feature photo have
more focus on what you are trying to
get through
• Less colours
• Have a bigger photo so again it focuses
on what you want to get through

2. Masthead: ‘True De
Mag’ states the name of the
magazine in big bold characters so it
is visible to the customers.
Things to improve:
• Have a boulder colour so it stands
out more
• Maybe larger in size
• Be in a better positioning

3. Plug: On the left hand side I
have pictures which show the story’s
that will be in this issue of ‘True De
Mag’.
Things to improve:
• Have more information
• Be in a bolder more noticeable font
• Better positioning
Plug: At the bottom of the
page it shows all the story’s that will
be in this week’s True De Mag
magazine. The rather large numbers
show what page you can find these
certain Story’s on.

4. Puff: ‘More news Read on…’ this
is used to boost its status and want
you to read on I also have used ‘Just
the way you like it, only at True De
Mag!’ this increases its status makes
you think you can only get the news
given in a True D Mag no were else.
Things to improve:
• Have a better quote
• Better positioning
• Colours the same so you know
both of them are puffs

5. Filler: The barcode in the
bottom right is a vital piece of info
but it has also been used as a filler to
fill an empty space in the front cover.
Things to improve:
• Have more of them

6. Negative space:
Unfortunately there is quite a bit of negative
space on the front of my magazine cover, this
can be improved by using more fillers and
spreading the contents of the page around
more.
Things to improve:
• Have more fillers
• Fill the negative space with information

7. Mise-en-scene:
The photo used shows the map of the
school so if you are reading the
magazine to can always refer to the
map and without even going to the
school you can know were certain
classes are and be aware of the
schools surroundings this shows
meaning.
Things to improve:
• Have it bigger
• More detail

8. Mode of Address:
The mode of address of the magazines
front and contents page is quite chatty
and informal which shows the readers
what the contents will be like.
Things to improve:
• Have it formal
• Have it more informal
• Have it less chatty

9. Sell: On the front cover a sell
has been used ‘Your news just the
way you like it, only at Tre De Mag’
this makes the reader want to read
the magazine and makes this
magazine stand out from the others,
the sell quote promotes the
magazine.
Things to improve:
• Bolder
• Bigger
• Shorter slogan
