7. SUBSTRUCTURE/FOUNDATION
Shallow Foundations
7
Foundation: Structure who support the weight of the upper structure and
applied loads. Designed to transmit building load to the supportive soils or
rock.
Foundations can be considered under two groups:
Deep Foundations

Isolated

COLUMN CASTING

RCC (Reinforced Cement Concrete) column is a structural member
of RCC frame structured building. It's a vertical member which
transfers loads from slab and beam directly to subsequent soil. A
whole building stands on columns. Most of the building failure
happens due to column failure. And most of the column failure
happens not for design fault but for the poor construction practice.
So, it is very important to know the construction process of the
RCC column properly
Constructing RCC Column involves following four stages of works
Pouring
concrete
into
column.

Framwork/Shuttering
The term SHUTTERING AND FORMWORK includes all form
,moulds,sheeting,shuttering,planks,walrus,poles,posts,standards,v-
heads, structs, ties, pright ,bolts etc all temporary support to concrete during
process of sheeting .
Formwork is the term given to either temporary or permanent moulds into
which concrete or similar materials are poured. In the context of concrete
construction, the formwork supports the shuttering moulds.

14. TESTING OF CONCRETE
14
Compressive strength of Concrete :
Using Cube Test
Cube mould of 15cm side, vibrating machine
, water measuring, jar, compression testing machine etc.
Workability of concrete :
Using Slump Test
Mould, pan, trowel ,
weighing balance ,
weight steel rod.
16. Conclusion
16
We can conclude that there is difference between the theoretical and practical
knowledge. As scope of understanding which will be much more when
practical work is done .As we get more knowledge in such situation where we
have great experience doing the practical .After experience this sector of
India, I can tell that this is the sector, which has most opportunities perhaps in
India.
The aim of civil engineer is to plan and design various types of structural
design on ground. this is not possible unless he involves its self in ground
oriented task .
A project and site engineer is mostly responsible for implementation of
structural design on ground.
He needs deep knowledge and foresightness that project not struck ,he should
always have a contingency plan .
