2. Tech can be tamed!
• Full disclosure- I am “slightly” geeky
• Don’t let technology control you, use it to
your advantage.
• Learn how to integrate it-don’t let it take
over !
• Figuring out tools that work and tools that
work for you ,both in life and business
2
3. Lack of Mobility isn't an option
anymore...
• Smartphones
• Personal Digital Assistant
• Laptop/Netbook/Tablets
• Digital Cameras
• Internet connectivity on the go...
3
5. What in the heck is a Smartphone ?
There isn’t really a “standard” definition-but for our
purposes let’s consider it a device that combines
cellphone functionality with that of a “personal digital
assistant", inclusive of the ability to get on the web
• Some popular “smartphones”
– iPhone
– Blackberry
– Android OS based devices
– Palm smartphones
– Windows based smartphones
5
6. Does your smartphone make you feel less than,um smart ?
• If you are contemplating a new phone-
FIRST determine what you need your
phone to do- if you have an IT department
at your firm, consult with them before you
purchase
• Ask other people you know, about their
experiences with the phone
• Read the manual.
6
7. Tips on using your smartphone
• Make it your friend, your partner
– Calendar
– Contact list
– Emails
– Notes
– Tasks
• If possible, use a system that synchronizes the above with
your office and or personal computer systems
• Use maps/gps
• Find useful apps that make your life simpler (or may be
useful to your clients !)
7
8. Laptops,netbooks,iPads and other do-dads
• With any technology purchase, determine what you NEED
to do ,then what you WANT to do,and your budget.
• Based on the above,make a decision.
• For devices that require internet connectivity-remember
WiFi isn’t always readily available when you need it,you
*may* want to consider a broadband card or hotspot
device. It “seems” expensive, but broken down by day,its
CHEAPER than your Starbucks® habit,if you have one
8
9. What’s holding you back ?
• Fear of being “on call” 24/7 ?
• Fear of having your (already limited)
personal boundaries evaporate ?
• With the ability to be always on,you have
to learn how to prioritize and be
“off”,everything may be important,but not
everything is urgent too
9
10. Important vs Urgent
IMPORTANT BUT NOT NOT URGENT AND NOT
URGENT IMPORTANT
URGENT BUT NOT URGENT
IMPORTANT AND IMPORTANT
10
11. What's your daily arsenal ?

12. Don’t get lost in a tech abyss
• Integrate tools that work for you into your
business
• I believe ,irrespective of
technology,business is about relationships-
create,maintain and nurture those
relationships online AND offline
• Create a plan, work your plan and surpass
your goals !
