NUCLEAR ENVELOPE • Also known as the Nuclear Membrane • Has 2 separate bilayers • Has thousands of nuclear pores • Separates contents of the nucleus from the cytoplasm • Provides structure to the nucleus
Structure of Nuclear Envelope • Outer Membrane • Continuous to ER • Has ribosomes • Cytoplasmic surface • Perinuclear Space • Space between inner and outer membrane • Lumen of nuclear membrane • Inner Membrane • Has nuclear proteins: Laminin, LAP1 & LAP2, Emerin, and Nurin • Nuclear Pores • Protein Channels • Nuclear Lamina • Plays role in chromatin organization, cell cycle regulation, DNA replication and repair
