1. Platelets are produced in bone
marrow, by megakaryocytes, large
cells of bone marrow.
Normal platelet counts range from
150,000 to 450,000 / microliter of
blood.
Low platelet counts = thrombocytopenia  excessive bleeding.
High platelet counts = thrombocytosis  abnormal blood clot
formation.
Key functions: Hemostasis,Coagulation,
Wound Healing
Thrombocytes - small, colorless,
disc shaped, anucleate cell
fragments.
Abnormalities in platelet count
or function can lead to bleeding
disorders or clotting disorders.
It form clots and prevents bleeding.
