2. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my teacher ( Rohit Sir) as
well as our Principal who gave me the golden opportunity to do this wonderful
project on the topic (About Assam) , which also help me in doing a lot of research
and I came to know about so many new things. I would also like to thanks my
friends who helped me a lot in completing this project within the limited time frame.

3. ASSAM
Assam is a state in northeastern India, south of the eastern Himalayas along the
Brahmaputra and Barak River valleys . Assam is known for Assam tea and Assam
silk. The state was the first site for oil drilling in Asia . Assam is home to the one -
horned Indian rhinoceros, along with the wild water buffalo, pygmy hog, tiger and
various species of Asiatic birds, and provide one of the largest wild habitat for the
Asian elephant . Assam receives more rainfall than most parts of India; this rain
feed the Brahmaputra river, whose tribut arise and oxbow lakes provide the region
with a distinctive hydrogemorphic environment . Dirbu - Saikhowa National park is
famed for its feral horses . Sal tree forests are found in the state which, as a result
of abundant rainfall, look green all year around . The Assamese economy is aided
by wildlife tourism to Kaziranga National park and Manas National park, which are
World Heritage Sites .
4. Renewable energy in ASSAM
The Natural Energy Sources which are also called renewable energy sources are
continuously produced by natural process and force occuring in our environment .
Generally renewable energy sources are inexhaustible sources of energy available
abundantly in the environment .
Various types of Renewable energy sources are as:
● Solar energy
● Wind energy
● Biomass energy
● Geothermal energy
● Tidal energy
5.
6. Solar Energy in Assam
● Amugri solar plant in Sivasagr District . The 70 megawatt Amguri solar park is
spread over 340 acres in Sivasagr District in Assam .
● Azure Power’s 90 MW solar Power project in Assam, largest in the state .
Wind Energy in Assam
● At present, dedicated 50 metre / 80 metre guyef masts with multilevel
instrumentation are being used for the investigation with reliable and fully automated
instruments that can give the necessary output for the wind resources assessment
is being used at all the field stations in Assam .
Ongoing projects:
● 80 metres Wind Monitoring Station (WMS) are located in Dhubri ,
Goalpara,Barpeta, Nalbari , Kamrup(rural) , Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar
7. ● In Assam, there are many ongoing projects on biomass energy which
started in August 2022 .
● Situated away from the active plate boundaries and in lack of
active volcanism, the Upper Assam Basin remains a low-to-medium
enthalpy geothermal fluid regime .
● The Tidal energy is not likely to be a potential source of energy
because: Only a few sites are available around the world which is
suitable for building field barrages, and the rise and fall of seawater
during high and low tides is not enough to generate electricity on a large
scale.
8. Hydropower energy in ASSAM
It is reported that Assam has a hydropower potential of the order of 541 MW
against which only 2.00 MW has been harnessed. The hilly areas of the state have
good hydropotential as small streams can be harnessed for decentralised power
generation through small hydro development .
There are 3 hydroelectric power plants in Assam:
● Namrup Replacement Power Project(NRPP) 100MW
● Lakwa Replacement Power Project.(LRPP) 70MW
● Myntriang Small Hydro Electric Project(MSHEP) 10.5(st-I = 9 st- II = 1.5)MW
