What are Collaboration Skills?
 Collaboration skills are those that enables you to
collaborate with others to achieve any specific goal
or objective. These are the most important skills as
all the working environment needs collaboration.
These skills helps you to understand different
perspectives, managing your priorities with others
and meeting expectations as reliable member of
the team.
 Successful collaboration requires a cooperative spirit
and mutual respect. Employers look after the
employees who are willing to work effectively in a
team and collaborate with team by balancing their
personal achievements. They communicate clearly,
listen to the other people actively, taking the
responsibility of the mistakes and respect and
manage the diversity of the colleagues.
Types of Collaboration Skills
For successful collaboration, you need good:
 Communication Skills
 Emotional Intelligence
 Respect for Diversity
Communication Skills
 Making everyone to understand their point is
a challenge. While working in a team, you
can’t be afraid to put your perspective in
front of all but also you can’t impose your
perspective to everyone. These
communication skills are essential
collaboration skills.
Active listening:
 Active listening is attentively hearing the words and
saying of the co-workers. It means to listen without
judgment and making it sure that you are
understanding what they are saying. If you don’t
understand then ask some questions to understand
it and try to summarize it what was said before
rather the move on next.
Written communication:
 Document writing is a good way to
communicate especially when you are
working in a remote setup. We mostly rely
on non-verbal cues to convey meaning to
our sayings, so it's especially important to be
mindful of how messages might be received
when communicating in writing.
Verbal communication:
 What you are saying to your team members
is important but the way you say it is more
important. Sharing your perspective
completely and respectfully disagreeing are
essential aspects of verbal communication.
Non-verbal communication:
 Non-verbal communication, the body language and
gesture, makes your communication more effective.
Anything what is said can create two meanings for the
listeners, that’s why the non-verbal communication is
important to let other know what is in your mind and what
are you feeling. Consider what you are saying and how you
are saying when you are talking to your colleagues.
Emotional Intelligence
 Emotional intelligence is one of the
important soft-skills that is used at any place.
Emotional intelligence deals with the ability
to identify and manage your emotions and
reading the emotions of other and replying
them in an appropriate way.
Some traits to cultivate to increase your emotional intelligence include:
 Resilience
 Not being offended easily
 Not taking criticism personally
 Being able to recognize and detach from strong emotions when needed
 Curiosity
 Empathy
 Compassion
Respect for Diversity
 In our global world we maybe need to work with the
people of different countries and cultures. Reflect on any
implicit biases is important to be successful so you can work
with your co-workers respectfully.
 For example, in a meeting, if any minority colleague is bring
talked over or being ignored consistently, you can try to
make some efforts to get the communication back to the
ideas of that person.
Respect for diversity in a collaborative environment includes:
 Open communication
 Sensitivity to ethnic and religious backgrounds
 Building and managing expectations
 Facilitating group discussion
 Agreeing on roles that capitalize on individual strengths
 Building consensus
 Eliciting viewpoints from all team members

They communicate clearly, listen to the other people actively, taking the responsibility of the mistakes and respect and manage the diversity of the colleagues.
  • 4. Types of Collaboration Skills For successful collaboration, you need good:  Communication Skills  Emotional Intelligence  Respect for Diversity
  • 5. Communication Skills  Making everyone to understand their point is a challenge. While working in a team, you can’t be afraid to put your perspective in front of all but also you can’t impose your perspective to everyone. These communication skills are essential collaboration skills.
  • 6. Active listening:  Active listening is attentively hearing the words and saying of the co-workers. It means to listen without judgment and making it sure that you are understanding what they are saying. If you don’t understand then ask some questions to understand it and try to summarize it what was said before rather the move on next.
  • 7. Written communication:  Document writing is a good way to communicate especially when you are working in a remote setup. We mostly rely on non-verbal cues to convey meaning to our sayings, so it's especially important to be mindful of how messages might be received when communicating in writing.
  • 8. Verbal communication:  What you are saying to your team members is important but the way you say it is more important. Sharing your perspective completely and respectfully disagreeing are essential aspects of verbal communication.
  • 9. Non-verbal communication:  Non-verbal communication, the body language and gesture, makes your communication more effective. Anything what is said can create two meanings for the listeners, that’s why the non-verbal communication is important to let other know what is in your mind and what are you feeling. Consider what you are saying and how you are saying when you are talking to your colleagues.
  • 10. Emotional Intelligence  Emotional intelligence is one of the important soft-skills that is used at any place. Emotional intelligence deals with the ability to identify and manage your emotions and reading the emotions of other and replying them in an appropriate way.
  • 11. Some traits to cultivate to increase your emotional intelligence include:  Resilience  Not being offended easily  Not taking criticism personally  Being able to recognize and detach from strong emotions when needed  Curiosity  Empathy  Compassion
  • 12. Respect for Diversity  In our global world we maybe need to work with the people of different countries and cultures. Reflect on any implicit biases is important to be successful so you can work with your co-workers respectfully.  For example, in a meeting, if any minority colleague is bring talked over or being ignored consistently, you can try to make some efforts to get the communication back to the ideas of that person.

Respect for diversity in a collaborative environment includes:  Open communication  Sensitivity to ethnic and religious backgrounds  Building and managing expectations  Facilitating group discussion  Agreeing on roles that capitalize on individual strengths  Building consensus  Eliciting viewpoints from all team members
