(UNICS stands for “UNiplexed Information Computing System”)
UNICS is later introduced as UNIX.

Professor of Linus was “Andrew
Tanenbaum”. He was founder of
“MINIX” operating system. The
purpose of this invention is to
educate students.
LINUX is developed from initial state.
UNIX and MINIX are its bases.
6. Distributions of Linux:
A Linux distribution (often abbreviated as distro) is an operating system (OS)
made from a software collection that is based upon the Linux kernel and, often,
a package management system. These are as under:
• Red Hat Linux
• Fedora
• Debian
Other flavors are Kali Linux, Ubuntu, CentOS & Amazon Linux. etc.
7. Linux key features:
• Open Source.
• Secure.
• Simplified updates for all installed software.
• Light weight.
• Multiple distributions. E.g. Kali Linux which is a distribution of Linux
and commonly used in hacking purposes.
