GrowTime
 Know and Grow is time spent every morning
which builds a bridge between home and
school for the children.
 It is a time when the teacher can interact and
build relationships with the children in a
comfortable, safe environment .This is
important in GIRFEC (Getting It Right For Every
Child).
 It is a time where children can make choices,
play and socialise, all of which enhance
learning.
 It is a time when the teacher can observe and
listen to the views of the children.
Rules &
Responsibilities
 We agreed on our rules as a class. Every rule was an
idea from a pupil agreed by others.
 The traffic light system works really well. All children
start the day on green.They get a verbal warning if
they break the rules followed by a traffic light change if
ignored.These are noted in the homework book so you
can discuss the incident at home. A red light means
that the child has to sit out of GoldenTime for 5
minutes. If all has gone well in the day, a will be put
in the diary.
 We use restorative practice to ensure all children are
treated fairly.

 RESPECT – for everybody by listening to opinions of others
RESPONSIBILITY – for your own actions
 REPAIR - identifying what went wrong and ensuring it won’t happen
again

 Count everything! Steps, books, cars, trees, socks etc.
 When tidying encourage children to order items by size or group
by colour.
 Keep track of their height together as they grow.
 Help with shopping and money at the shops.Count change into
piggy bank.
 Help to bake or cook following a recipe.
 Play board games which require counting e.g. snakes and ladders.
 Point out the time and look at the clock together at important
times in the day e.g. dinner time, bed time.
 Have a calendar in the house and change to the right date, month
etc.
 Lots of online games, follow links on twitter and blogs.

  • 2. Settling in Routines - encouraging responsibility and independence Morning Routine Coats & bags Play pieces Homework diaries Water bottles Lunches VisualTimetable. Homework returned on Monday, given out again onTuesday.
  • 3. Know and GrowTime  Know and Grow is time spent every morning which builds a bridge between home and school for the children.  It is a time when the teacher can interact and build relationships with the children in a comfortable, safe environment .This is important in GIRFEC (Getting It Right For Every Child).  It is a time where children can make choices, play and socialise, all of which enhance learning.  It is a time when the teacher can observe and listen to the views of the children.
  • 4. Rules & Responsibilities  We agreed on our rules as a class. Every rule was an idea from a pupil agreed by others.  The traffic light system works really well. All children start the day on green.They get a verbal warning if they break the rules followed by a traffic light change if ignored.These are noted in the homework book so you can discuss the incident at home. A red light means that the child has to sit out of GoldenTime for 5 minutes. If all has gone well in the day, a will be put in the diary.  We use restorative practice to ensure all children are treated fairly.  Restorative Practice - ‘justice for all’  RESPECT – for everybody by listening to opinions of others RESPONSIBILITY – for your own actions  REPAIR - identifying what went wrong and ensuring it won’t happen again

HouseSystem Forth Avon Carron Tay  Identity & sense of belonging (Each house has pupils from P1 – P7.)  Class points  House badges  Regular meetings  Captains elected by pupils  Living Our Values – whole school (promoted in class and in House Meetings) Respect,Trust, Courage,Tolerance,Justice, Happiness, Caring, Hope, Love & Peace.  Rewards – termly and end-of-year  Inter house activities – talent shows, quizzes, sports  Star of The Week  one pupil each week with specific reason given  focus on values and effort  House points given and House sticker awarded

Active Literacy  Two phonemes a week  Common words each week  Phonetic spelling -The “write-hand method”  Comprehension  Dictation  Songs and videos  Letter formation - sand writing, plasticine letters, pipe cleaners, paints etc.  Motor skills  Games  Foundations ofWriting  Storytelling
  • 7. Numeracy  Counting songs  Class games & board games  Current focus - number formation  Simple addition and subtraction e.g. 1 more  Interactive Mental Maths  Numbertime DVD (also available online)  Numicon  Numeracy across learning  Numeracy through P.E.
  • 8. Activities to Support Numeracy at Home  Count everything! Steps, books, cars, trees, socks etc.  When tidying encourage children to order items by size or group by colour.  Keep track of their height together as they grow.  Help with shopping and money at the shops.Count change into piggy bank.  Help to bake or cook following a recipe.  Play board games which require counting e.g. snakes and ladders.  Point out the time and look at the clock together at important times in the day e.g. dinner time, bed time.  Have a calendar in the house and change to the right date, month etc.  Lots of online games, follow links on twitter and blogs.

Health and Wellbeing  New Resource – Knowing Me, KnowingYou  CircleTime  Living our values  Building resilience  Small Healthy Playpiece: fruit/veg, biscuit, small packet of crisps, small piece of chocolate and water/ milk, NO fizzy juice  Drinking water (no juice allowed in class)  School dinners – go over with children at home. Please send a packed lunch if they do not like anything.  FoodTechnology  2 hours of quality P.E. (getting changed (suitable clothes for PE days), earrings) – please label everything!!   Active Mile  Outdoor Learning  Exercise in class
  • 10. Uniform & Kits  Children looking great!  Labelling PLEASE  Lost property  Full PE kit Mondays andTuesdays (best left on peg or in tray)  shorts  T shirt/polo shirt  gym shoes  no earrings (tape if unavoidable)

Parents as Partners Supporting children with homework  Practise sounds and words daily  Sound jotter: forming letters correctly (doorwayonline.com is good)  Word boxes (common words)  Maths sheet  Reading book  Twitter: talking about the day  FamilyTime – last Friday in every month. Different theme each month. If you miss it, catch up onTwitter.Teachers responsible for children during the school day, we will dismiss.  Feedback is welcome. Have a chat or write in the homework diary.
