Key stage three 2
1. Sharing Teaching and Learning Ideas
Half Term Six Focus: Key Stage Three
Key Idea: Starting the lesson with a positive tone
Using reward points as a positive motivator to begin the lesson.
Ways you can do this in your classroom:
• Students could be introduced to a system in some lessons where every student is awarded
a small number of reward points at the beginning of the lesson, to maintain throughout.
• When introducing this with some groups, set out your expectations clearly.
• By awarding students reward points to begin with, this reinforces that they are all
exceptional students at the beginning of every lesson. If they work hard / read, behave
responsibly and engage in the task they keep their points.
• It is up to them, by the way they conduct themselves, as to whether they keep those
points.
• Most work better with a sense of initial achievement and fully understand when certain
behaviours remove the points.
• They also see themselves as all equal at the start of every lesson.
