Tales and Talk for 2’s and 3’s:
Hugs and Kisses
Positive experiences with language and reading help a child become ready to read.
Sing and rhyme together. Have fun adding your own words and actions.
Share books:
o that the child enjoys. These might be favorite stories (e.g. Cat in the Hat),
favorite characters (e.g. Dora and Diego), or favorite themes (e.g. trucks, puppies).
Read them over and over.
o that are silly or funny. Laugh out loud together!
o that have different formats. (e.g. lift-the-flap, pop-up, touch/feel, tell-and-draw)
o and let the child help tell the story. Use props (e.g. toys and puppets) and actions.
o and talk about the pictures. Connect the pictures to real objects or events.
Visit the library, and come to library programs regularly.
