Parts of Speech
There are Eight parts of Speech.
1. Noun
2. Pronoun
3. Verb
4. Adverb
5. Adjective
6. Conjunction
7. Interjection
8. Preposition
1. NOUN
The English word “Noun” comes from Latin word “nomen” meaning “name”.
The function of noun is to name someone or something.
Example:
 My mother cooks delicious food.
 Do you live in Canada?
 The sun rises in the east.
 I bought a car.
 Daniyal is a good player.
Types of Noun
1. Common Noun
2. Proper Noun
3. Abstract Noun
4. Collective Noun
5. Concrete Noun
6. Compound Noun
7. Countable Noun
8. Uncountable Noun
2. PRONOUN
Pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun.
Example:
 I had forgotten my passport in the office.
 You are welcome.
 She goes to school everyday.
 They will come after you.
 We won the match.
Types of Pronoun
1. Demonstrative Pronoun
2. Indefinite Pronoun
3. Intensive Pronoun
4. Interrogative Pronoun
5. Personal Pronoun
6. Possessive Pronoun
7. Relative Pronoun

3. VERB
A doing word is called a Verb. It expresses some action.
Example:
 She is sitting next to you.
 Alcohol causes cancer.
 He apologized to the teachers.
 Ayyan is throwing the football.
 She slept all night.
Types of Verb
1. Regular Verb
2. Irregular Verb
3. Linking Verb
4. Transitive Verb
5. Intransitive Verb
6. Finite Verb
7. Infinite Verb
4. ADVERB
A word used to add something in the meaning of verb.
Example:
 I normally spend the summer holidays in Canada.
 She speaks politely.
 He drives carefully.
 Dog shouts loudly.
 The old man walks slowly.
Types of Adverb
1. Adverbs of Time
2. Adverbs of Manner
3. Adverbs of place
4. Adverbs of degree
5. Adverbs of frequency
5. ADJECTIVE
A word used to add something in the meaning of noun.
Example:
 She is a brave girl.
 He is a fast driver.
 We had a difficult test today.
 An eagle was flying in the blue sky.
 The sky was covered with twinkling stars.
Types of Adjective
1. Comparative Adjective
2. Superlative Adjective
3. Predicate Adjective
4. Compound Adjective
5. Possessive Adjective
6. Demonstrative Adjective

6. CONJUNCTION
It is word used to join words or sentence.
Example:
 Daniyal and Ayyan are friends.
 Maybe she is singing or shouting.
 I stayed at my office due to the rain.
 You don’t need to go unless you want to.
 She came first. Therefore she got a good seat
Types of Conjunction
1. Coordinate Conjunction
2. Subordinate Conjunction
3. Correlative Conjunction
7. INTERJECTION
It is a word used which expresses some sudden feelings and emotions.
Example:
 Wow! That’s a great car.
 Well done! Your work is good.
 Listen! Don’t so be careless
 Oh no! Plane is about to crash.
 Goodbye! I see you soon.
Types of Interjection
1. Interjection of Joy.
2. Interjection of Greeting.
3. Interjection of Pain.
4. Interjection of attention.
5. Interjection of Shock.
8. PREPOSITION
A preposition is a word or group of words that shows the relationship of noun or
pronoun to same other word in the sentence.
Example:
 He sat on the chair.
 There is some milk in the fridge.
 She was hiding under the table.
 The cat jumped off the counter.
 He drove over the bridge.
Types of Preposition
1. Simple prepositions.
2. Double prepositions.
3. Compound prepositions.
4. Participle prepositions.
5. Phrase prepositions.
