1. Food – groceries, cooked food, condiments, spices, staples
2. Shelter – incudes maintenance, taxes and repair
3. Clothing – uniform, accessories, clothes
4. Education – tuition fees, daily food transportation, allowance
5Utilities – electric, water, gas, bills
6.Health – medicine, health check up
Budget planning
 Is the process by which a company or individuals
evaluate their earnings and expenses and project their
monetary intakes and outtakes for the future
 It is an essential statement with the estimates
expenditure to be incurred and the revenue to be
generated during a certain period of time.
The three types of Budget Plan
 Balanced Budget- This is a good budget. In this budget,
income and expenditure are equal and the estimated
income meets the estimated expenditure.
 Surplus budget- In this budget, the income is more than
the expenditure. The family is able to save more in this
budget.
 Deficit Budget- When the expenditure exceeds income, it
is known as deficit budget. It is not all desirable.
Elements of Financial Budget
 Income-job salary
 Fixed Expenses- are recurring expenses that cost the
same each month.
 Variable expenses- include any living expense that varies
from month to month.
 Discretionary Expense-these are not necessary expenses
and include purchases you make for entertainment
purposes.
 Goals-One of the main objects of creating and
maintaining a budget.
Steps in Planning a family budget
 Determine your family’s Monthly Income Earnings
 Create an expense chart
 Determine monthly spending
 Compare the Monthly Income against the Expenses
Chart
 Balance the budget
Factors Affecting the Family Budget
1. Amount of Income – the higher the income of the family, the
greater the amount that the family members can spend for their
needs and wants. On the other hand, the smaller income of a
family, the more it needs to spend for what is most important
and immediately needed.
2. Size and Composition of the Family – the more members are
in the family, the more food to serve on the table, more
expensive for schooling, clothing and for other basic needs.
3. Values of the Family – can be seen on what they prioritized in
their expenses. Different families and different individuals have
different values so they differ on what their priorities and on
what they spend with their money
4. Needs and Wants of the family – these are materials a family
must need to survive day to day basis
Sample Budget Plan
APPLICATION We sometimes need to be independent, Individual Activity
Each student must prepare a simple budget plan for the family. Given
the assignment last meeting (Conduct an interview with parents about
the family resources, income and expenses) the students should be
able to finish the task given.
EVALUATION Students will identify what is addressed by the following statements.
Students will write the letter of the correct answer. After the
identification, the students will define budget plan. They will write
their answers on a ¼ sheet of paper and will be given 5 minutes to
finish the task. (Classroom Assessment)
Identification
1. It is a type of budget plan wherein the income is more
than the expenditure.
2. An element of financial budget which include any
living expense that varies from month to month.
3. In this budget, income and expenditure are equal and
the estimated income meets the estimated
expenditure.
For items 4-5 Define budget Plan
ASSIGNMENT Students will do the following activities below.
For reinforcement: The students will share to their parents their own
made simple budget plan and have them correct it if needed. Signature
of a parent is required for proof.
For enrichment: Look for some challenges that a budget plan might
encounter. Write it in your notebook.
