itu” in teaching and learning
to enhance pupils’
vocabulary.

Issues
• Mother tongue
• English is their third language
• (Ubian - Malay- English)
• Not familiar with English
• No interest in learning English
English is a foreign language!
Issues
• Geographical position
- Far from city ( 53KM to Kudat)
- Limited internet & learning
sources
- No “outside world” experience.
How to make our pupils have the desire to
learn a language that is foreign for them?
Here is my solution!
“MIHA WORDS ITU”
MIHA  Search(UBIAN)
WORDS  Words (ENGLISH)
ITU  That (Malay)
What ?
Why?
Involve Ubian language
• Motivation for pupils to learn
• Familiar with their own language
Use dictionary
• Promote self-learning
• enhance vocabulary
• Learn how to categorize words.
HOW?
1. Teacher will pick vocabulary
(from textbook).
2. Write words in “Miha Words
Itu” with colourful marker.
SAMPLE

3. Pupils need to search for
hidden words in “Miha
Words Itu”
4. List down words at their
book.

HOW?
5. Pupils need to find the
definition of words in
dictionary.
HOW?
6. Pupils need to categorize
words according to the colour.
HOW?
7. Define words into three
languages.
(ENGLISH-MALAY-UBIAN)

8. Lastly, hang pupils’ works at
places where most other
pupils can see.

Especially when it’s involved with
their first language.
*I have this one weak pupil in
English and Malay and he is always
shy. So he didn’t involve much in
the lesson but in this lesson he is
very confident because some of his
friends didn’t know the translation
for Ubian so he will do the
translation and it really boost up his
confidence.
