6. Idea Evaluation
Which of your ideas do you want to develop further? Explain why you think that is
the right idea to take forward.
I’ve decided to take the route to develop the idea around encouraging the younger
demographic to be interested in nature with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. The Trust
already aims almost all of it’s promotional material and funding at the older
generation demographics so it would be nice to give the client some more ideas on
how to engage the younger children into caring about the conservation of wildlife and
nature.
9. Client Meeting
On Thursday 22nd of November, our group went to meet with a member of the
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. Since quite a few people had decided to have the Yorkshire
Wildlife Trust as a client, we decided to go over our ideas collectively so that the client
was not overwhelmed with several products that look too similar. So the six of us went
to visit the client to go over our ideas with them for their insight and opinion.
As a result of the interview, the six of us are working in pairs to make promotional
videos for three different age ranges. Two people are working on continuing with the
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s current target audience of retired people over the ages of 60.
Another pair is working on aiming their videos at teenagers and keeping them
interested in wildlife. The demographic that another student and I will be working on
are young children in primary school. The aim is to try and get young children to care
and want to help conserve wildlife as they grow up without completely losing interest.
People tend to lose their interest in nature and wildlife as they’re going through
primary school through secondary school as their priorities change into exams and
thinking about their future. The main products that we are going to make are three
short promotional videos to appeal to the three age ranges that we decided on, plus
anything else that could promote it as long as we have time to do so.
10. Concept Video
To help visualise the sort of video
that we are going to make to
advertise for children, I found a
video online to sequence
together the sort of thing that we
were thinking of that would work
best. After sequencing the shots
together, I started to look at
colour correction since that can
be a big part of drawing a child’s
attention.
11. Concept Video
I tried two different types of colour
correction. The first was to make very simple
adjustments to make the shot look more
cinematic overall. Therefore it was a little
darker than the original but still easy to see
everything easily.
I then tried something different. The most
common colour was green, with them being
out in the forest so I used the adjustment
layer to bring out and enhance the green.
While the video ended up looking slightly less
realistic, I really liked the effect it had,
emphasising the beauty of the green forest.
After trying both of the colour corrections
separately, I decided to try them both
together. The result was a really nice
combination of the two which we thought
would be good at attracting the attention of
the children with the brighter colours.
14. Logo
Our client wanted the six of us to have a group name and logo so we started
brainstorming several different options to pick a favourite one.
This is the final logo design that one of our group
designed that combined what we liked from two
or three of our initial designs. The logo will be up
in the videos we all make across the group of the
six of us.
16. Assessment of final ideas
Suitability for audience:. Do you think your audience will engage with your ideas?
I think that my audience will engage with my ideas because the video won’t be too long
so should hopefully hold their attention and being told by children of their age will
ideally be more interested.
Suitability for client: Does your idea fulfil the brief your client gave you?
My idea does fill the brief as it includes interviews from the children’s perspective on
wildlife and nature and include onsite relevant b-roll.
Timescales: Is your project practical and manageable in the time you have?
I think that it will be depending on the weather for timings to film. There is also the
problem with the time of year and being able to get the clips that are needed and I’m
happy with before it gets dark. But aside from that, there shouldn’t be anything else
wrong with what we’ve agreed to make with the client for time management.

17. Potential Problem Effect on Production Control Measure
Camera is dropped It would need replacing (if
broken )
Be careful when moving the
camera around
Bad weather means that the
camera gets wet
Could break and need replacing Transport in its case and have
plastic bags and umbrellas to
keep it dry
SD card becomes corrupted and
it lost
Would have to film again Check often that the footage is
there.
Interviewees suddenly can’t
make it
Will have to re-arrange Make sure they know what time
they will be there for and
interview other people if they
suddenly have to cancel.
Unstable tripod Camera could fall and break,
and the footage unclear and out
of focus
Put tripod on flat ground and
support it if needed.
Battery runs out Would have to film again Check it is charged before due
to start filming and possibly
have a backup one just in case.
Footage is shaky or out of focus Would need to film again Regularly check the quality and
take multiple shots
