RecycleTreatment - Task 5
Video length:
Our proposed video will be approximately 8-10 minutes long. The video will take place in
around the redbridge borough area our local areas more specifically.
Purpose of our video:
Our short documentary will focus on educating and entertaining the youth of the
importance of the waste management and recycling. Filming will take place in
parks and highroads and potentially a recycling or wastefacility.
Genre:
comedy/documentary.
Target audience:
Our documentary will target people aged 6-11. The reason why weare targeting
people of this age group with our project as that it is our belief that this is the age
where peopleare most impressionable and as such our video will have the highest
chance of success of convincing members of the audience to take up recycling this
does have the negativein that the results of our video will not be seen for a long
time as they will need to grow up to gain the full effects. As a result of the hero
theme we are implementing we feel as though our video will be more likely to pick
up a male audience meaning we should focus our efforts around pleasing this type
of audience this does however limit the effectiveness of our project as it means it will
not be watched by a large number of people. The negatives of targeting peopleof
this age group is We will target people of our desired age group via several
methods. The first of these method will be the use of bright colours which children
like, another method which will be used to attract children to our video will be the
large amount of comedy. The secondary target audience of our videowill be
parents who are watching the video with their children. To try and make the video
better for them we will include humor which will be targeted directly at themrather
than the children so they will not get as bored.
Background:
The reason we are creating a documentary on recycling is that we feel very strongly
about this issue and as such believe it is the right thing to try and combat this issue for
the good of the planet, the reason we decided to tackle the issue in the way that
we have rather than a normal straight up documentary is that we believetheir is
already a large number of much high funded documents tackling the issue in this
way which has led us to try and try another approach to convincing people to
recycle for the good of the planet.
Research:
Though our research we discovered there was a large number of people who
believe that people need to tackle recycling as an issue in the local area. The
research that we did showed that the prefered genreof videosto watch was
comedy which inspired us to create a more comedic video that your average
project where you have someone who is sitting down and asking questions, we
hope that a side effect of this is that people will be more likely to remember our
video and as a result its message. Our research showed that the majority of people
already recycle which indicates that those who do not recycle are stuck in their
ways which is why we wish to make our primary audience children as this would help
to influence people towardsrecycling before they get stuck into habits. Beforewe
came up with our idea we decided that each member of our core crew would
watch a different documentary on recycling so that we could be able to analyze
them to discover which things that did that we enjoyed and what parts we did not
enjoy so that we would know what weshould do and allow us to avoid their
mistakes.
Synopsis:
This video will follow a man who will be called Jimmy Johns, who will start littering
only to be stopped by a man dressed in a green hero suit who is called captain mr
recycle who will then proceed to show jimmy the error of his ways via a series of
christmas carol style visits to three locationswhich will each teach something
different about recycling and why it is important to do so.
Style:
We intend to give our video a style that looks very bright and cartoony, weintend to
give the videothis kind of style though several methods. The first of the methods we
intend to use to do this is to do most of our filming though the day as this will give us
good lighting which will help make colours stand out, secondly we intend to use very
bright colours such as greens and yellows which which show this to be a light
hearted production, wewill make the video seemmore like a comic though the use
of visuals and special effects.
Approximate budget requirements:
In order to create the video which wehave in mind we will need a budget of
£4467.99 which will be the expected cost to create this documentary however we
request £4914.79 as this would give us 10% more money than needed which could
be used to cover any unexpected costs, this money will be returned if it is not used.
The largest cost to our production will be hiring the editing suite which will cost £720
this will be needed in order to put the video clips together to createa finished
product and to add any special effects which we desirethe next highest cost will be
the camera which weexpect to cost us £560.
