1. Types of OTS – Sam Qureshi
Linear - Has continuity to let the story unfold
E.g. MrsDoubtfire
http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/mrs-doubtfire/
E.g. Reservoir dogs
http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/reservoir-dogs/
Mrs Doubtfire and Reservoir dogs bothhave linear OTSs because
the film (the acting and main storyline) begins when the film is
introducingits OTS, and the story continuesfrom where it left off
after the OTS, which shows that they both fit into the linear category.
This is my favouriteOTS because it gets the audiencestraight into the
film.
Nonlinear – flickering parts of the story, may be montage
E.g. Orange is the new black
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBITGyJynfA
E.g. Machete
http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/machete/
Orange is the new black and Machete both have nonlinear OTS
because they showsflickering shots of differentcharacters from the
programme, aswell as someshots of the location and props.
Symbolic – it’s all about the symbolism, and may not have anything
from the film
E.g. Gameof Thrones
http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/game-of-thrones/
E.g. The Last of Us (video game)
http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/the-last-of-us/
Both of them have symbolic title sequences because they both have
no imagery that is actually in the TV programme/video game, and
they are both flooded with varioussymbolsto representsomething
related to the form of media. E.g. Game of Thrones shows the
variouslocations where the story is set; The Last of Us shows brief
scenes of the deadly fungus thathas caused the global pandemic.
