 This is a suitable performance video for this artist and he has done it because his target audience
is young teenage girls and his music focuses a lot on the heartbreak theme and teenage love life
so this song resonates a lot within his fan base.
This video still follows the conventions by having the artist clearly visible
and singing in a location similar to one featured throughout the narrative
side

3. illustration
 The narrative and the performance have contrasting and similar elements which is another
convention apparent.
 The narrative is illustrating the songs lyrics and only splits to show Mendes singing.

4. amplification
 Lorde features as the primary character in the music video and takes a long priority in camera
shots as she is the artist and is known for her looks. Her fans appreciate her voice and like to see
her performing.
Because this song appears to be a love song of sorts or
displays the theme of one she has taken on the video to
match to a degree

 Lorde takes a somewhat odd role as the mistress of a married
man, as the story progresses its revealed the male is the one to
blame but it still starts as a controversial role
Lorde as an artist features quite a lot of symbolism within her
words and often focuses on heartbreak and topics along those
lines like her life falling apart, ETC

Lorde often has quite contrasting lyrics in her songs and then has music videos which contrast the
lyrics heavily or give them a different meaning, from props to colours, to expressions.
