TASK 1
Idea Generation and Research
This fanzine uses a lot of bright, vibrant colours though
they're all of a similar colour and fit within a obvious
colour palette for this fanzine. I feel like creating a solid
colour scheme as a basis to follow for all colours
throughout my own fanzine will be really important to
creating something that is appealing to look at and grab
my target audiences attention.
I also noticed that the format of this fanzine is pretty
common throughout a wide range of fanzines. A lot of
fanzines seem to use the layout where they have a full
page of imagery on the left hand page then a detailed
text based page on the right hand side, explaining the
imagery and content on the left hand side. This is
something that I could definitely incorporate into my own
project as it will be easy for the audience to follow as well
as easy for me, the creator, to lay out.
This fanzine has a very doodle based style that is
definitely a stylistic choice for the fanzine that the
creator was making and I feel it fits well and works for
the ‘craftivism’ context they were trying to convey in the
imagery. Although the doodle style may not be
something I use in my own project, it is interesting to get
me thinking about how I can convey a style and feeling in
the imagery on one page and then further develop that
feeling and style into the next page through text and
explanation.
Product Research
The first thing that I notice when looking at this fanzine is the colour scheme. I feel the greyscale
colour scheme used for this fanzine is perfectly fitting for the context of the fanzine. The context is
quite negative and talks about conflict and issues of the storyline that this fanzine is following and I
therefore feel that the colour scheme used is fitting. It also has a very stylistic art choice where it feels
that a lot of the content has been cut out from other sources and stuck onto this fanzine which gives
the fanzine a very rough and messy feel, further pushing the style and feeling of this fanzine, that the
creator is trying to push. This fanzine shows me many ways that I can incorporate different content,
from text to imagery, in a way that will possess a feeling. This is definitely an idea that I can think
about whilst planning my own fanzine and if I could use any of the techniques used in this fanzine to
further help me convey the feeling I want to convey to the audience of my fanzine.
This fanzine has a pretty unique format
as to where imagery is the vast majority
of the context on the pages. It has hard
to tell if these pages are the covers for
different fanzines of the same topic or
they're snippets from the same fanzine.
I therefore cant see if this fanzine uses
double page spreads or just singular
pages like I can see from this image.
Product Research
I like the format of this fanzine, I feel that it divides the
page well between text and imagery and it makes it
really easy to follow for the audience. Having primarily
text on one page and imagery on the other is something
I think that I will want to incorporate into my own
fanzine as I think it makes the work extremely
presentable and aesthetic but also provides a straight
forward yet effective structure for the audience to
follow.
I also like the colour scheme used for this piece,
although grayscale is not something I can use for my
own work, as it just wouldn’t fit the genre/style I'm
working in, I think it works really well for the piece this
author has created and helps to express the message
the author wants to express in his fanzine.
I'm mainly looking at this piece because of its layout and
structure, its definitely something that I will consider for
my own fanzine due to its easy readability as well as
leaving enough space for creative visuals to complement
the text. This may not be the exact structure that I use
but its definitely something that could influence my
decision when I later decide upon the structure that I
want to use.
Product Research
This is the planet and environment style that I will be trying to recreate in blender for this project. I
noticed that a lot of the buildings have a very similar shape and all use the same textures. The only
differentiation in the buildings is the scale of the buildings as well as some difference in the
architecture such as the windows and bridges between buildings. This is something I should be able to
recreate relatively easily within blender. It may not be exactly the same but it will definitely be
close/heavily inspired by. I think that getting the right textures for the buildings will be crucial in
making the buildings look similar to how they do in Naboo. I also noticed that this planet has a lot of
water features as well as foliage. This is something that ill be able to recreate in blender to further
familiarise the audience with the visualisation of Naboo they already know. I recently purchased an
addon for Blender called scatter that I will use in this project for the majority of the foliage on the
planet. I'm not too sure on how to create waterfalls for this project but ill do some further research in to
how to do so as its definitely an important aspect of this planet. I also noticed that this planet uses a lot
of fog which I will aim to use in my own piece. I will use volumetrics to create fog around the lower
areas of the planet, stemming from the waterfalls. I think its is also very important to get the lighting
right on this scene. The lighting in this image is one of the first things I notice, it’s a very warm light
and is just off to the right behind the camera. The light in this scene creates a very tranquil feeling
scene.
I want to take as much influence from this
shot as I can for my own work to try create a
scene that feels close enough to what Star
Wars fans already know. Although my scene
will definitely look a lot different, it is very
important that I incorporate as many key
features of the planet as I can to help my
recreation feel as close to the real thing as
possible.
Product Research
I wanted to see how I could recreate the animation of the blasters in Star Wars. I've identified that the
blaster energy projectile seems to be a luminated cylinder. This is something that I believe I would be
able to recreate relatively easily in blender using particle systems. I also noticed that the blasters emit
quite a large amount of light. I could recreate this effect by parenting a red light to the particle system,
meaning every time a shot from the blaster is fired, a light source is also fired, creating the effect that
the blaster bolts are emitting the light.
From previous experiments with bloom I have noticed that it is quite challenging to create within the
cycles render engine. To create bloom in cycles, you need to use the compositor in blender but that
effects the entire shot not just the blaster bolts. This also applies for lightsabers that I may use in this
project. However, I need to use cycles render engine to ensure that my environment looks the best it
can. To tackle this issue, I'm currently thinking that I will render everything besides the lightsaber blade
and the blaster bolts in the cycles render engine, but then render the lightsaber blade and blaster bolts
in a separate render in EEVEE. I will then use Blender’s compositor to combine the two render passes
and final render the piece again to combine everything and hopefully overcome this issue regarding
bloom.

Research summary:
From this research I have learnt a range of different techniques and styles that I can use throughout
production for this project. For example, I have discovered a range of different ways to format and
present my fanzine to my audience. I could use mainly imagery to present my ideas to my audience
if I think that’s what will appeal to my target audience the best or I could use double page spreads to
have an image on one page and then mainly text on the other oage, explaining the more visual
content on the other page.
I have discovered a lot about colour schemes for fanzines. I think this is an important part of
fanzines as a good, consistent colour scheme helps to connect all the content in the fanzine together
but also makes the fanzine itself, a lot more aesthetic and pleasant to look at for the audience.
Because of this, the target audience may become more attached to the fanzine and therefore more
likely to stop and read the contents of the fanzine.
As well as researching techniques and styles around fanzines, I also researched some topic specific
aspects such as animation/shot styles used in Star Wars. I also researched into planet specifics of
Naboo and noticed a collection of different key points that I could use within my own recreation of
the planet, to make it feel more like the original. Things such as waterfalls and foliage are dominant
throughout any shot of Naboo as well as the planets unique architecture, lighting and atmospheric
qualities. Finally, I did some research into recreating the blasters from Star Wars. I discovered ways
that I could go about recreating the blaster bolts in blender and ways I could get around a potential
render issue regarding bloom for the lightsabers and blaster bolts.

POTENTIAL APPROACHES
For this project, I have decided to create a fanzine designed around the planet
Naboo and what happened to the planet during The Empires reign. I have decided
to do my project on Star Wars as its something that I've always been interested
I'm, as well as being a huge franchise in Cinema. Because it’s such a big franchise,
there will be some premade assets such as characters that ill be able to use
during this project to make it easier for myself. Doing this project on Star Wars
also provides me with a connection to the project and increases my motivation
and also makes me want to complete this project to the best of my ability, even
more so than any other project I have previously done, due to my connection to
the franchise.
One potential approach, is to create a short animation in the middle of my
fanzine, this would allow me to practice more detailed 3D skills as well as more
animation skills to create this piece. This idea is what I ideally want to do but may
not be able to due to time restrictions. As with any animation, rendering is always
something that can cause issues. For this concept, I would create my fanzine in a
video format, allowing me to add an animation into the middle of the fanzine. I'm
currently unsure how I would do this, but I can definitely research into the
concept.
Another potential approach is that I just create a singular frame for a 3D scene,
this scene I will place within my fanzine and the scene will be designed around
what I think that Naboo would look like during the time period that I'm discussing
in my fanzine. This scene would be the start to my animation, this way if I can't
POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES TO
USE
I will be using 3D software within this project; I will use Blender to create a scene
of Naboo that I imagine it would look like during The Empires reign. This will
allow me to portray my idea around the subject I'm discussing, much more
visually and in-depth for my audience.
I could be creating a short animation for this project; this is a technique that I'm
keen to develop and want to spend as much time as I can working on. Hopefully, I
will be able to work within this medium during this project if I have time left over
to do so. I will be using a collection of techniques in my animations such as
rigging and animating, these are key parts of the professional industry that I want
to practice.
I could potentially be using photoshop in this project to create an outline for my
fanzine and design the format that I want to present my fanzine in. I will also use
photoshop in some areas of production and post-production as well as
incorporating visual content into my fanzine such as imagery of the planet.
I’ll also use Blender and After Effects for compositing for this project, some
compositing will need to be done in Blender but then the majority of it will be
done within After Effects as I'm much more familiar with the software and effects,
especially regarding compositing.
Finally, ill use Premiere Pro for sound design as its much better for basic sound
design than After Effects due to the built-in audio aspects which make audio
CONVENTIONS OF YOUR
CHOSEN FORMAT/GENRE
YOU ARE WORKING TO
I've noticed from a lot of fanzines that I have researched prior to starting my
planning for this project, that a lot of them use a very similar structure. I’ve
noticed this structure throughout the vast majority of fanzines that I have looked
at. They use a double page spread, visual content on one side of the double page
spread and text-based content on the other side of the double page spread. This
is something that I'm definitely considering using in my own fanzine due to ho
simple the layout is to create and how nice it is to follow and understand as the
reader. I've also noticed that fanzines use a very distinctive colour scheme, maybe
more so than a lot of other forms of media. I plan to create a unique and
identifiable colour scheme for my fanzine in order to catch the readers eye as well
as create a fanzine that is nice to look at for my audience.
Throughout the Star Wars films, you can notice a colour scheme that guides the
audience’s feelings towards characters and subjects. Generally speaking, colour
schemes involving red within the Star Wars universe usually cast a negative
feeling on the audience towards the characters/subjects portraying that colour
scheme, whereas green and blue colour schemes within the Star Wars universe
provide the opposite feeling to readers. I plan to use colour throughout my
project to associate feelings with the topics that I, discussing/showing. Also,
throughout the Star Wars films, they have a unique sound design where a lot of
sounds you wouldn’t find anywhere else are used, this is something I want to
incorporate into my own project to enhance my project. Finally, throughout the
Star Wars movies, battles are often very large scale, showing the power of the
SUMMARY
• I believe that this project will provide me with freedom to work within the medium
that I want to work within and develop the skills that I need to develop for
potential careers later in life.
• I also believe that this idea that I have created for this project, will provide the
project with a technical challenge as well as allowing me to create something
aesthetically pleasing and unique for this project, opposed to a generic fanzine.
• This project will also hopefully allow me to develop my skills in animation, this is
something that I want to practice and get better at as it allows me to create much
more interesting pieces than just an image of a scene that I have created,
animation allows me to bring more context to the scene, as well as creating a
further level of technical challenge to my project.
• Another opportunity of my idea for this project is that I get to work within a
medium and genre that I want to work within and also interested in. This means
that ill be more likely to want to complete the project to a higher standard but will
also provide me with motivation during the project as its something that means
something more than just another project.
• Creating this product in the way that I have decide to also gives me some room
for error. I have decided to create a scene initially, that I could use in my fanzine,
but also a scene that I could animate if I had the time to do so, towards the end of
production, this way I will always have something to add to my fanzine, and not
end up with something completely unfinished.
SUMMARY
• Like any project that I work with 3D in, they're often design for a much simpler
idea and production process, this often means that I aim to do too much within
the time frame that I have been provided with for the project. Because of this
issue, rendering 3D scenes and especially animations is a process that can take
an immense amount of time, and therefore is always a concern when going into a
project where I plan to work within 3D software such as Blender.
• Another restriction of my idea for this project is that I may not get too much
written content into my fanzine. This would be due to the fact that creating the
3D scene/animation for this project can take an immense amount of time and
could leave me with very limited time to get the text-based content into the
fanzine, as that in itself will take a good amount of planning.
• Also, I'm not the best at working within photoshop and my knowledge of the
software is very limited. I have chosen to format this project in a very print based
structure which will involve using photoshop and could provide me with some
challenges.
• With the format that I am considering for this project, the text-based content may
be challenging to read at times due to the fact that its in a video format. The
reader may have to pause the video on each page to read the text based content,
which could be annoying as a reader.
TASK 2 Pre-production
Assessment
TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINE
For this project, I intend to create a fanzine exploring the planet of Naboo from
the Star Wars universe during The Empires reign. I will format this fanzine in a
collection of different ways, for the majority of the fanzine I will have text-based
content on one side of the double page spread and visual content that the text
describes and develops on the other side of the double page spread. I have
chosen this format is its easy to follow and provides an aesthetically pleasing
format for the reader. I will then use an entire double page spread, somewhere
between the middle and the end of the fanzine to present the scene or animation
that I’ll create for this project in Blender. Furthermore, I will potentially present
this idea in the format of a video if I do create a successful animation for this
project. I will create a video of the fanzine being slowly flicked through, then
when it gets to the double page spread of the 3D scene/animation, the camera
will be pulled in the fanzine, into the scene, as if the reader is there, physically
experiencing life on Naboo during The Empires reign. This video could end up
being anywhere from 1-2 minutes long, exploring the fanzine, but the animation
itself would only be around 10 seconds long. If I did end up presenting my
animation in this format, the audience would have to pause the video to read the
fanzine if they wanted to, which may be slightly annoying for the audience and
could make the text based content slightly challenging to read.
EQUIPMENT/FACITIES
I shouldn’t really need any other equipment for this project other than that, that
is already available to me. For this project, I will use my home computer primarily
for the majority of this project due to the higher spec but I will also do some
modelling on the computer that I have within college, this way I will hopefully
always have something to do. I will have to do it this way as Blender, like any
other 3D software, can be extremely hardware demanding meaning, it is likely
that the computer I have access to within college may not be able to handle a lot
of the aspects of this project, especially when I move into the animation process.
I may also use my phone to capture assets to use within this project. These assets
I could use in the foreground of my scene as they would potentially be higher
detail than other things. I might also use my phone to create motion capture
animations for this project. There is software that captures animations from video
without any other information than the video you provide it. Obviously the
animation aperture that it outputs is not perfect but it could be a good foundation
for animations.
TASK 3.1 Creative or Visual
Planning
PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL
PLANNING
This section is concerned with the visual/creative
planning of your production. This is WHAT you want to
make
You should use this section to develop what is it going to
look/sound like and establish what the visual design is
and the desired sequence.
It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the project before
you make it; it will make filming and production a more
streamlined process.
The following tasks should be part of your visual
planning, including:
 Pre-visualisation and concept boards
 Storyboarding
 Shot list
 Flat plans
 Colour plans
PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONCEPT
BOARDS
Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel”
Presents key moments in your video
A means to sketch/plan ideas
Information on colour/lighting
Defining the “mise-en-scene”
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you
to approach in your own way, add more as you need to
Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that
have inspired or influenced your video [similar to this:

CONCEPT BOARD
CONCEPT BOARD
DISCUSSION/EXPLANATION
For my concept board, I have collected a range of images that help to show the
different range of things that I want to include within my project. For example,
Starkiller is a character from the Star Wars universe that many fans know and
love, but the character has rarely been explored. Starkiller is a character I could
potentially include in my project as it’s a character I love from the Star Wars
universe and could be interesting to animate and force me to learn new VFX
techniques such as lightning and explosions. I also collected a range of images
from the planet of Naboo, I will use these images throughout my production
process for this project to inform my decisions in order to create an environment
that feels like it could be on the planet of Naboo. I have also collected images of
blaster fights within Star Wars. I will most likely have blaster fights in the
background of my scene/animation. This will be to add some points of interest to
the background as well as expanding the scale of the fight. I want to use these
images to explore how blaster and the blaster bolts look and work in Star Wars.
Finally, I collected images of the structure that I plan to use within my fanzine.
The structure I plan to use is a double page spread with visual based content on
one side of the double page spread and text-based content on the other side of
the double page spread, explaining the visual content. I have decided to use this
structure due to how easy to read it is as well as how easy to create it is. I also
collected an image of a colour scheme that is often used throughout Star Wars;
Red vs Blue. This colour scheme can be seen throughout the films as its show's
evil vs good or Sith vs Jedi. I may use this colour scheme I my project but I'm
currently unsure.
STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN/PLANNING
Breakdown your project into its basic sections and apply
broad visual and creative ideas to each section.
You can use this as the master template for your
production, then add more shots/pages, etc to each
section when you develop your full sequenced plan and
planned outcomes.
You should create a slide showing all the sections of the
project, then add a slide for each section with timings,
what happens visually and in terms of audio, page layout
aim to have as much specific detail as possible.
The structure of the project and method of doing this is
dictated by the type of project.
AUDIO AND OTHER PLANNING
For the sound design of this project, I will be using pre-gathered audio clips for
the Star Wars films. In order to make my piece feel that much closer to the real
thing, a sound design that’s familiar to my audience is hugely important. This is
why its so crucial that I use sounds that have come straight from the Star Wars
films. I will most likely gather these audios from YouTube as there will be a lot of
individual sound effects that I can use on that platform, from the movies. I may
also record some of my own audio from the films if I need any. I will then use
Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the audio clips to create my sound design. I have
chosen to use Premiere Pro due to the built in audio mixing features such as the
sound meter and other features that can be used for audio editing within
Premiere Pro.
PRINT/NON-MOVING IMAGE
PLANNING
Rather than storyboarding and sequence planning, print
and still image projects require different image and
layout plans.
You should research conventions for your chosen
medium in your earlier work and then approach the
project using some of the methods you’ve discovered.
TASK 3.2 Interview Planning
PROJECT CONTRIBUTORS
Currently, I'm unsure on the specific people that I want to interview and therefore
cant provide names and contact details of the individuals. However, I can outline
my current ideas for the general group of people that I want to interview for this
project. I want to head over to a community discussion based platform such as
reddit and find people who are active contributors in subreddits and discussions
related to Star Wars content. I have decided to do it this way as I want my
interviews to have quite a big influence on the outcome of my projects. I know
that there will be people out there more educated on Star Wars and the topic that
I will be exploring within this fanzine, so I feel it would be extremely useful for
me to interview these types of people to get a more accurate perception of what
could have happened to Naboo during The Empires reign. This way, my project
will have a higher chance of making sense to a larger audience of Star Wars fans
and therefore may be more enjoyable and familiar to my audience for this project.
Because ill be doing an online interview with people that I don’t know and have
never, and probably will never meet, I wont be recording the interviews and I will
most likely present my interviews’ findings in a visual form such as screenshots.
An advantage to doing interviews this way is that they will be much easier going
and my interviewee will most likely feel more relaxed and provide me with more
details in their responses to my questions than they might do in person, whilst
being recorded.
FURTHER PLANNING
Questions:
• What do you think happened to Naboo during The Empires reign and why do you
think this?
• If you could describe Naboo during this time in 3 words, what would they be?
• Do you think that Naboo is still a peaceful planet or do you think that war would
have reached Naboo during The Empires reign?
• Do you think it would be possible that a Jedi is hiding out on the planet after
Order 66, and who could that Jedi be?
• Finally, could it be possible that Inquisitors searched for refuging Jedi on the
planet?
These are the questions that I currently have lined up for my interviewees for this
project, but they may change before I start taking the interviews. I have chosen
these questions as I think that they will provide me with all the detail that I need
specific to the animation/scene that I want to create for this project. I have
phrased my questions in a specific way that the interviewee can not veer away
from the answer that I want to receive. I've done it this way as I want my project
to still feel like something that I want to make, but its also important to create
something that feels like Star Wars and can link to the universe the fans of the
SUMMARY
To summaries, I will be interviewing random people who are fans of the Star Wars
universe on platforms such as Reddit, in subreddits dedicated to Star Wars.
Because of this, I will just be contacting them via messages within the platform,
using Reddit’s direct messaging feature. I will ask them the five questions that I
have outlined in the previous slide to help inform my decisions during the
production process. I will be using these interviews to inform my decision making
during production to help me to recreate this planet as close to the original as
possible. In addition to this, the people that I'm interviewing will hopefully have a
much more knowledgeable insight into the Star Wars universe further than the
films and animated series, meaning I will be able to use their knowledge to get an
idea of what will have happened to the planet during The Empires reign.
TASK 3.2 Organisational
Planning
CONTINGENCY PLAN
If I'm unable to get round to completing and animation that I am happy with by
the time that the production stage of this project finishes, I have planned this
project so that I will create the entire scene first before animating it. This way if I
cant finish the animation, I still have the shot of the scene and the environment
and ill be able to implement this into my fanzine. Other than this, I don’t really
have a further contingency plan as the rest of my plan should be pretty easily
achievable within the time frame that I have for this project.
SCHEDULE
Week 1:
In the first week of production for this project, I want to really focus on laying out the
basic foundation of everything in my environment. This means placing basic building
outlines in the areas that I want to have buildings, placing mountains in the areas I want
them and the positioning the camera in the right place. This process will be a lot of trial
and error until I get an angle and layout that I'm happy with but will allow me to get an
early visualisation of how this project will look. After this, I will work on downloading
some assets that I know I will need for this project, these will be assets such as
characters, TIE fighters, Star Destroyers and some other smaller assets that can be used
within the landscape such as trees and grass elements. Finally to end of this week of
production, I will work on some basic lighting using HDRIs and light sources within
blender. In addition to this, I will also gather everything that I need for my production
diary and document everything that I had done within the week.
SCHEDULE
Week 2:
During this week, I want to work on developing my building models. This will be quite a
long process as the buildings in Naboo are extremely detailed, and due to the large scale
of this scene, there will be a lot of small modifications that I will need to make. I’ll be
using a range of different techniques during this process such as scaling, bevelling,
extruding and using a range of modifiers. To split up this process a little bit, to avoid
burning out, I will work on adding the textures to some of my assets. This will be assets
such as the TIE fighters which for the majority of them will have very small detailed
textures due to how small they will be but, there may be a couple that I need to pay
some more attention to as they may be much closer to the camera. I will also work on
adding the textures to my characters. I will use a range of different maps such as normal
and UV maps to add my texture details to my characters. Currently, I'm thinking of using
fan-made assets as well as game assets for my characters to save a large portion of time
during production. I will then continue to work on developing my building models and
further developing the layout of my scene. Towards the end of the week, if I get time to
do so, I will work on adding some textures to the rest of the scene, as well as scattering
some foundations for foliage around my scene. I will then gather images for my
production diary and write about everything that I achieved in the week.
SCHEDULE
Week 3 (Holiday Week):
Going into this week, I want to continue work on my textures and foliage. It is crucial
that I get this part right and pay a large amount of attention towards this area of
production, due to how much foliage influences the look of Naboo within the Star Wars
universe. I then want to work on texturing my buildings. This will be something that may
take a little while as it will be extremely important that I get these textures right as they
will be quite a large aspect of my final product. During this process of texturing, I may
need to alter my models of the buildings to add some more detail to areas that I
previously hadn’t. Also in this week, I want to work on getting a rig ready for my
characters, to do this, I plan on using Adobe Mixamo. This software is used to AI
generate rigs for 3D models. I will use this software to get a simple rig quickly for my
characters. I will then download these now rigged characters from Mixamo as well as
downloading some basic pre-made animations from Mixamo to incorporate into my
scene. These animations will be the basic animations at the very start of my animation if
I manage to finish the still version of the scene in time. Towards the end of the week, if I
have all the textures and foliage done, and I'm happy with everything, I will do some
touch ups and add waterfalls to my mountains in the background. I'm not too sure how
to do this but I'm sure there will be some tutorials on the internet that ill be able to
follow. I will then collect images for the process that I had undergone throughout the
SCHEDULE
Week 4:
At the very start of this week it is essential that I get all my textures and foliage to a
point that I am happy with for the final piece. I want to ensure that I spend the majority
of this week working on animating this scene if I have left myself enough time to do so.
The following part of this plan will be for if I am ready to animate the scene. I will work
on animating all my characters first, working from foreground to background. I will
spend more time working on the foreground elements as they will be much more
noticeable to the audience so it is crucial that I iron out any rough edges in my
animations for these foreground elements. It is not as important that I create such
smooth animations for my background characters as they will be so small from the
cameras point of view due to how large the scale for this scene is. After animating my
characters, I will work on animating my other assets such as the ships, these animations
will be much quicker to do and shouldn’t take too long at all. Finally I will work on
animating blaster bolts from both my characters and the ships in the sky. I will then
work on gathering material I need for my production diary and carry on working on that.
SCHEDULE
Week 5:
In week 5, I will work on smoothing out all my animations at the start of the week and
getting my project to the point of which that I am happy with. I will then render an initial
frame to test how everything is looking once rendered. If I am happy with everything I
will send the file off to a render farm to render. I have decided to do this due to the
immense amount of time it would take to render an animation of this scale on my home
computer. Although it will cost money, it is absolutely worth it as it will save a large
amount of time but maintain the same quality. In addition to this, I will be able to use my
computer to do other aspects of the project whilst it is rendering. I will then work on
sound design, colour correction and other smaller video based aspects ready to compile
everything once the render is complete. I will then compile everything and begin working
on a basic scene to present everything. Later into the week, I will work on creating my
fanzine, this shouldn’t be something that takes more than a couple of days. Towards the
end of the week, I will have created a very basic scene to present my fanzine. My current
idea is a bedroom where the reader is flicking through the fanzine, they will then land on
the page where my animation will be, and the camera will fall into the scene, playing out
the animation. I will then work on compiling all of this content at the end of the week
into one video that everything that can be presented in. I will then finish of my
production diary ready for everything to be submitted the following week.

  • 2. TASK 1 Idea Generation and Research
  • 3. This fanzine uses a lot of bright, vibrant colours though they're all of a similar colour and fit within a obvious colour palette for this fanzine. I feel like creating a solid colour scheme as a basis to follow for all colours throughout my own fanzine will be really important to creating something that is appealing to look at and grab my target audiences attention. I also noticed that the format of this fanzine is pretty common throughout a wide range of fanzines. A lot of fanzines seem to use the layout where they have a full page of imagery on the left hand page then a detailed text based page on the right hand side, explaining the imagery and content on the left hand side. This is something that I could definitely incorporate into my own project as it will be easy for the audience to follow as well as easy for me, the creator, to lay out. This fanzine has a very doodle based style that is definitely a stylistic choice for the fanzine that the creator was making and I feel it fits well and works for the ‘craftivism’ context they were trying to convey in the imagery. Although the doodle style may not be something I use in my own project, it is interesting to get me thinking about how I can convey a style and feeling in the imagery on one page and then further develop that feeling and style into the next page through text and explanation. Product Research
  • 4. The first thing that I notice when looking at this fanzine is the colour scheme. I feel the greyscale colour scheme used for this fanzine is perfectly fitting for the context of the fanzine. The context is quite negative and talks about conflict and issues of the storyline that this fanzine is following and I therefore feel that the colour scheme used is fitting. It also has a very stylistic art choice where it feels that a lot of the content has been cut out from other sources and stuck onto this fanzine which gives the fanzine a very rough and messy feel, further pushing the style and feeling of this fanzine, that the creator is trying to push. This fanzine shows me many ways that I can incorporate different content, from text to imagery, in a way that will possess a feeling. This is definitely an idea that I can think about whilst planning my own fanzine and if I could use any of the techniques used in this fanzine to further help me convey the feeling I want to convey to the audience of my fanzine. This fanzine has a pretty unique format as to where imagery is the vast majority of the context on the pages. It has hard to tell if these pages are the covers for different fanzines of the same topic or they're snippets from the same fanzine. I therefore cant see if this fanzine uses double page spreads or just singular pages like I can see from this image. Product Research
  • 5. I like the format of this fanzine, I feel that it divides the page well between text and imagery and it makes it really easy to follow for the audience. Having primarily text on one page and imagery on the other is something I think that I will want to incorporate into my own fanzine as I think it makes the work extremely presentable and aesthetic but also provides a straight forward yet effective structure for the audience to follow. I also like the colour scheme used for this piece, although grayscale is not something I can use for my own work, as it just wouldn’t fit the genre/style I'm working in, I think it works really well for the piece this author has created and helps to express the message the author wants to express in his fanzine. I'm mainly looking at this piece because of its layout and structure, its definitely something that I will consider for my own fanzine due to its easy readability as well as leaving enough space for creative visuals to complement the text. This may not be the exact structure that I use but its definitely something that could influence my decision when I later decide upon the structure that I want to use. Product Research
  • 6. This is the planet and environment style that I will be trying to recreate in blender for this project. I noticed that a lot of the buildings have a very similar shape and all use the same textures. The only differentiation in the buildings is the scale of the buildings as well as some difference in the architecture such as the windows and bridges between buildings. This is something I should be able to recreate relatively easily within blender. It may not be exactly the same but it will definitely be close/heavily inspired by. I think that getting the right textures for the buildings will be crucial in making the buildings look similar to how they do in Naboo. I also noticed that this planet has a lot of water features as well as foliage. This is something that ill be able to recreate in blender to further familiarise the audience with the visualisation of Naboo they already know. I recently purchased an addon for Blender called scatter that I will use in this project for the majority of the foliage on the planet. I'm not too sure on how to create waterfalls for this project but ill do some further research in to how to do so as its definitely an important aspect of this planet. I also noticed that this planet uses a lot of fog which I will aim to use in my own piece. I will use volumetrics to create fog around the lower areas of the planet, stemming from the waterfalls. I think its is also very important to get the lighting right on this scene. The lighting in this image is one of the first things I notice, it’s a very warm light and is just off to the right behind the camera. The light in this scene creates a very tranquil feeling scene. I want to take as much influence from this shot as I can for my own work to try create a scene that feels close enough to what Star Wars fans already know. Although my scene will definitely look a lot different, it is very important that I incorporate as many key features of the planet as I can to help my recreation feel as close to the real thing as possible. Product Research
  • 7. I wanted to see how I could recreate the animation of the blasters in Star Wars. I've identified that the blaster energy projectile seems to be a luminated cylinder. This is something that I believe I would be able to recreate relatively easily in blender using particle systems. I also noticed that the blasters emit quite a large amount of light. I could recreate this effect by parenting a red light to the particle system, meaning every time a shot from the blaster is fired, a light source is also fired, creating the effect that the blaster bolts are emitting the light. From previous experiments with bloom I have noticed that it is quite challenging to create within the cycles render engine. To create bloom in cycles, you need to use the compositor in blender but that effects the entire shot not just the blaster bolts. This also applies for lightsabers that I may use in this project. However, I need to use cycles render engine to ensure that my environment looks the best it can. To tackle this issue, I'm currently thinking that I will render everything besides the lightsaber blade and the blaster bolts in the cycles render engine, but then render the lightsaber blade and blaster bolts in a separate render in EEVEE. I will then use Blender’s compositor to combine the two render passes and final render the piece again to combine everything and hopefully overcome this issue regarding bloom. Product Research
  • 8. Research summary: From this research I have learnt a range of different techniques and styles that I can use throughout production for this project. For example, I have discovered a range of different ways to format and present my fanzine to my audience. I could use mainly imagery to present my ideas to my audience if I think that’s what will appeal to my target audience the best or I could use double page spreads to have an image on one page and then mainly text on the other oage, explaining the more visual content on the other page. I have discovered a lot about colour schemes for fanzines. I think this is an important part of fanzines as a good, consistent colour scheme helps to connect all the content in the fanzine together but also makes the fanzine itself, a lot more aesthetic and pleasant to look at for the audience. Because of this, the target audience may become more attached to the fanzine and therefore more likely to stop and read the contents of the fanzine. As well as researching techniques and styles around fanzines, I also researched some topic specific aspects such as animation/shot styles used in Star Wars. I also researched into planet specifics of Naboo and noticed a collection of different key points that I could use within my own recreation of the planet, to make it feel more like the original. Things such as waterfalls and foliage are dominant throughout any shot of Naboo as well as the planets unique architecture, lighting and atmospheric qualities. Finally, I did some research into recreating the blasters from Star Wars. I discovered ways that I could go about recreating the blaster bolts in blender and ways I could get around a potential render issue regarding bloom for the lightsabers and blaster bolts. • 10. POTENTIAL APPROACHES For this project, I have decided to create a fanzine designed around the planet Naboo and what happened to the planet during The Empires reign. I have decided to do my project on Star Wars as its something that I've always been interested I'm, as well as being a huge franchise in Cinema. Because it’s such a big franchise, there will be some premade assets such as characters that ill be able to use during this project to make it easier for myself. Doing this project on Star Wars also provides me with a connection to the project and increases my motivation and also makes me want to complete this project to the best of my ability, even more so than any other project I have previously done, due to my connection to the franchise. One potential approach, is to create a short animation in the middle of my fanzine, this would allow me to practice more detailed 3D skills as well as more animation skills to create this piece. This idea is what I ideally want to do but may not be able to due to time restrictions. As with any animation, rendering is always something that can cause issues. For this concept, I would create my fanzine in a video format, allowing me to add an animation into the middle of the fanzine. I'm currently unsure how I would do this, but I can definitely research into the concept. Another potential approach is that I just create a singular frame for a 3D scene, this scene I will place within my fanzine and the scene will be designed around what I think that Naboo would look like during the time period that I'm discussing in my fanzine. This scene would be the start to my animation, this way if I can't
  • 11. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES TO USE I will be using 3D software within this project; I will use Blender to create a scene of Naboo that I imagine it would look like during The Empires reign. This will allow me to portray my idea around the subject I'm discussing, much more visually and in-depth for my audience. I could be creating a short animation for this project; this is a technique that I'm keen to develop and want to spend as much time as I can working on. Hopefully, I will be able to work within this medium during this project if I have time left over to do so. I will be using a collection of techniques in my animations such as rigging and animating, these are key parts of the professional industry that I want to practice. I could potentially be using photoshop in this project to create an outline for my fanzine and design the format that I want to present my fanzine in. I will also use photoshop in some areas of production and post-production as well as incorporating visual content into my fanzine such as imagery of the planet. I’ll also use Blender and After Effects for compositing for this project, some compositing will need to be done in Blender but then the majority of it will be done within After Effects as I'm much more familiar with the software and effects, especially regarding compositing. Finally, ill use Premiere Pro for sound design as its much better for basic sound design than After Effects due to the built-in audio aspects which make audio
  • 12. CONVENTIONS OF YOUR CHOSEN FORMAT/GENRE YOU ARE WORKING TO I've noticed from a lot of fanzines that I have researched prior to starting my planning for this project, that a lot of them use a very similar structure. I’ve noticed this structure throughout the vast majority of fanzines that I have looked at. They use a double page spread, visual content on one side of the double page spread and text-based content on the other side of the double page spread. This is something that I'm definitely considering using in my own fanzine due to ho simple the layout is to create and how nice it is to follow and understand as the reader. I've also noticed that fanzines use a very distinctive colour scheme, maybe more so than a lot of other forms of media. I plan to create a unique and identifiable colour scheme for my fanzine in order to catch the readers eye as well as create a fanzine that is nice to look at for my audience. Throughout the Star Wars films, you can notice a colour scheme that guides the audience’s feelings towards characters and subjects. Generally speaking, colour schemes involving red within the Star Wars universe usually cast a negative feeling on the audience towards the characters/subjects portraying that colour scheme, whereas green and blue colour schemes within the Star Wars universe provide the opposite feeling to readers. I plan to use colour throughout my project to associate feelings with the topics that I, discussing/showing. Also, throughout the Star Wars films, they have a unique sound design where a lot of sounds you wouldn’t find anywhere else are used, this is something I want to incorporate into my own project to enhance my project. Finally, throughout the Star Wars movies, battles are often very large scale, showing the power of the
  • 13. SUMMARY • I believe that this project will provide me with freedom to work within the medium that I want to work within and develop the skills that I need to develop for potential careers later in life. • I also believe that this idea that I have created for this project, will provide the project with a technical challenge as well as allowing me to create something aesthetically pleasing and unique for this project, opposed to a generic fanzine. • This project will also hopefully allow me to develop my skills in animation, this is something that I want to practice and get better at as it allows me to create much more interesting pieces than just an image of a scene that I have created, animation allows me to bring more context to the scene, as well as creating a further level of technical challenge to my project. • Another opportunity of my idea for this project is that I get to work within a medium and genre that I want to work within and also interested in. This means that ill be more likely to want to complete the project to a higher standard but will also provide me with motivation during the project as its something that means something more than just another project. • Creating this product in the way that I have decide to also gives me some room for error. I have decided to create a scene initially, that I could use in my fanzine, but also a scene that I could animate if I had the time to do so, towards the end of production, this way I will always have something to add to my fanzine, and not end up with something completely unfinished.
  • 14. SUMMARY • Like any project that I work with 3D in, they're often design for a much simpler idea and production process, this often means that I aim to do too much within the time frame that I have been provided with for the project. Because of this issue, rendering 3D scenes and especially animations is a process that can take an immense amount of time, and therefore is always a concern when going into a project where I plan to work within 3D software such as Blender. • Another restriction of my idea for this project is that I may not get too much written content into my fanzine. This would be due to the fact that creating the 3D scene/animation for this project can take an immense amount of time and could leave me with very limited time to get the text-based content into the fanzine, as that in itself will take a good amount of planning. • Also, I'm not the best at working within photoshop and my knowledge of the software is very limited. I have chosen to format this project in a very print based structure which will involve using photoshop and could provide me with some challenges. • With the format that I am considering for this project, the text-based content may be challenging to read at times due to the fact that its in a video format. The reader may have to pause the video on each page to read the text based content, which could be annoying as a reader.
  • 16. TITLE OF PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION OUTLINE For this project, I intend to create a fanzine exploring the planet of Naboo from the Star Wars universe during The Empires reign. I will format this fanzine in a collection of different ways, for the majority of the fanzine I will have text-based content on one side of the double page spread and visual content that the text describes and develops on the other side of the double page spread. I have chosen this format is its easy to follow and provides an aesthetically pleasing format for the reader. I will then use an entire double page spread, somewhere between the middle and the end of the fanzine to present the scene or animation that I’ll create for this project in Blender. Furthermore, I will potentially present this idea in the format of a video if I do create a successful animation for this project. I will create a video of the fanzine being slowly flicked through, then when it gets to the double page spread of the 3D scene/animation, the camera will be pulled in the fanzine, into the scene, as if the reader is there, physically experiencing life on Naboo during The Empires reign. This video could end up being anywhere from 1-2 minutes long, exploring the fanzine, but the animation itself would only be around 10 seconds long. If I did end up presenting my animation in this format, the audience would have to pause the video to read the fanzine if they wanted to, which may be slightly annoying for the audience and could make the text based content slightly challenging to read.
  • 17. EQUIPMENT/FACITIES I shouldn’t really need any other equipment for this project other than that, that is already available to me. For this project, I will use my home computer primarily for the majority of this project due to the higher spec but I will also do some modelling on the computer that I have within college, this way I will hopefully always have something to do. I will have to do it this way as Blender, like any other 3D software, can be extremely hardware demanding meaning, it is likely that the computer I have access to within college may not be able to handle a lot of the aspects of this project, especially when I move into the animation process. I may also use my phone to capture assets to use within this project. These assets I could use in the foreground of my scene as they would potentially be higher detail than other things. I might also use my phone to create motion capture animations for this project. There is software that captures animations from video without any other information than the video you provide it. Obviously the animation aperture that it outputs is not perfect but it could be a good foundation for animations.
  • 18. TASK 3.1 Creative or Visual Planning
  • 19. PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL PLANNING This section is concerned with the visual/creative planning of your production. This is WHAT you want to make You should use this section to develop what is it going to look/sound like and establish what the visual design is and the desired sequence. It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the project before you make it; it will make filming and production a more streamlined process. The following tasks should be part of your visual planning, including:  Pre-visualisation and concept boards  Storyboarding  Shot list  Flat plans  Colour plans
  • 20. PRE- VISUALISATION/CONCEPT BOARDS Tool for exploring the direction and visuals Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel” Presents key moments in your video A means to sketch/plan ideas Information on colour/lighting Defining the “mise-en-scene” Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the production, the following slides have been left blank for you to approach in your own way, add more as you need to Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that have inspired or influenced your video [similar to this: http://io9.com/5941145/this-directors-video-pitch-for- hunger-games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
  • 22. CONCEPT BOARD DISCUSSION/EXPLANATION For my concept board, I have collected a range of images that help to show the different range of things that I want to include within my project. For example, Starkiller is a character from the Star Wars universe that many fans know and love, but the character has rarely been explored. Starkiller is a character I could potentially include in my project as it’s a character I love from the Star Wars universe and could be interesting to animate and force me to learn new VFX techniques such as lightning and explosions. I also collected a range of images from the planet of Naboo, I will use these images throughout my production process for this project to inform my decisions in order to create an environment that feels like it could be on the planet of Naboo. I have also collected images of blaster fights within Star Wars. I will most likely have blaster fights in the background of my scene/animation. This will be to add some points of interest to the background as well as expanding the scale of the fight. I want to use these images to explore how blaster and the blaster bolts look and work in Star Wars. Finally, I collected images of the structure that I plan to use within my fanzine. The structure I plan to use is a double page spread with visual based content on one side of the double page spread and text-based content on the other side of the double page spread, explaining the visual content. I have decided to use this structure due to how easy to read it is as well as how easy to create it is. I also collected an image of a colour scheme that is often used throughout Star Wars; Red vs Blue. This colour scheme can be seen throughout the films as its show's evil vs good or Sith vs Jedi. I may use this colour scheme I my project but I'm currently unsure.
  • 23. STRUCTURAL BREAKDOWN/PLANNING Breakdown your project into its basic sections and apply broad visual and creative ideas to each section. You can use this as the master template for your production, then add more shots/pages, etc to each section when you develop your full sequenced plan and planned outcomes. You should create a slide showing all the sections of the project, then add a slide for each section with timings, what happens visually and in terms of audio, page layout aim to have as much specific detail as possible. The structure of the project and method of doing this is dictated by the type of project.
  • 24. AUDIO AND OTHER PLANNING For the sound design of this project, I will be using pre-gathered audio clips for the Star Wars films. In order to make my piece feel that much closer to the real thing, a sound design that’s familiar to my audience is hugely important. This is why its so crucial that I use sounds that have come straight from the Star Wars films. I will most likely gather these audios from YouTube as there will be a lot of individual sound effects that I can use on that platform, from the movies. I may also record some of my own audio from the films if I need any. I will then use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the audio clips to create my sound design. I have chosen to use Premiere Pro due to the built in audio mixing features such as the sound meter and other features that can be used for audio editing within Premiere Pro.
  • 25. PRINT/NON-MOVING IMAGE PLANNING Rather than storyboarding and sequence planning, print and still image projects require different image and layout plans. You should research conventions for your chosen medium in your earlier work and then approach the project using some of the methods you’ve discovered.
  • 26. TASK 3.2 Interview Planning
  • 27. PROJECT CONTRIBUTORS Currently, I'm unsure on the specific people that I want to interview and therefore cant provide names and contact details of the individuals. However, I can outline my current ideas for the general group of people that I want to interview for this project. I want to head over to a community discussion based platform such as reddit and find people who are active contributors in subreddits and discussions related to Star Wars content. I have decided to do it this way as I want my interviews to have quite a big influence on the outcome of my projects. I know that there will be people out there more educated on Star Wars and the topic that I will be exploring within this fanzine, so I feel it would be extremely useful for me to interview these types of people to get a more accurate perception of what could have happened to Naboo during The Empires reign. This way, my project will have a higher chance of making sense to a larger audience of Star Wars fans and therefore may be more enjoyable and familiar to my audience for this project. Because ill be doing an online interview with people that I don’t know and have never, and probably will never meet, I wont be recording the interviews and I will most likely present my interviews’ findings in a visual form such as screenshots. An advantage to doing interviews this way is that they will be much easier going and my interviewee will most likely feel more relaxed and provide me with more details in their responses to my questions than they might do in person, whilst being recorded.
  • 28. FURTHER PLANNING Questions: • What do you think happened to Naboo during The Empires reign and why do you think this? • If you could describe Naboo during this time in 3 words, what would they be? • Do you think that Naboo is still a peaceful planet or do you think that war would have reached Naboo during The Empires reign? • Do you think it would be possible that a Jedi is hiding out on the planet after Order 66, and who could that Jedi be? • Finally, could it be possible that Inquisitors searched for refuging Jedi on the planet? These are the questions that I currently have lined up for my interviewees for this project, but they may change before I start taking the interviews. I have chosen these questions as I think that they will provide me with all the detail that I need specific to the animation/scene that I want to create for this project. I have phrased my questions in a specific way that the interviewee can not veer away from the answer that I want to receive. I've done it this way as I want my project to still feel like something that I want to make, but its also important to create something that feels like Star Wars and can link to the universe the fans of the
  • 29. SUMMARY To summaries, I will be interviewing random people who are fans of the Star Wars universe on platforms such as Reddit, in subreddits dedicated to Star Wars. Because of this, I will just be contacting them via messages within the platform, using Reddit’s direct messaging feature. I will ask them the five questions that I have outlined in the previous slide to help inform my decisions during the production process. I will be using these interviews to inform my decision making during production to help me to recreate this planet as close to the original as possible. In addition to this, the people that I'm interviewing will hopefully have a much more knowledgeable insight into the Star Wars universe further than the films and animated series, meaning I will be able to use their knowledge to get an idea of what will have happened to the planet during The Empires reign.
  • 31. CONTINGENCY PLAN If I'm unable to get round to completing and animation that I am happy with by the time that the production stage of this project finishes, I have planned this project so that I will create the entire scene first before animating it. This way if I cant finish the animation, I still have the shot of the scene and the environment and ill be able to implement this into my fanzine. Other than this, I don’t really have a further contingency plan as the rest of my plan should be pretty easily achievable within the time frame that I have for this project.
  • 32. SCHEDULE Week 1: In the first week of production for this project, I want to really focus on laying out the basic foundation of everything in my environment. This means placing basic building outlines in the areas that I want to have buildings, placing mountains in the areas I want them and the positioning the camera in the right place. This process will be a lot of trial and error until I get an angle and layout that I'm happy with but will allow me to get an early visualisation of how this project will look. After this, I will work on downloading some assets that I know I will need for this project, these will be assets such as characters, TIE fighters, Star Destroyers and some other smaller assets that can be used within the landscape such as trees and grass elements. Finally to end of this week of production, I will work on some basic lighting using HDRIs and light sources within blender. In addition to this, I will also gather everything that I need for my production diary and document everything that I had done within the week.
  • 33. SCHEDULE Week 2: During this week, I want to work on developing my building models. This will be quite a long process as the buildings in Naboo are extremely detailed, and due to the large scale of this scene, there will be a lot of small modifications that I will need to make. I’ll be using a range of different techniques during this process such as scaling, bevelling, extruding and using a range of modifiers. To split up this process a little bit, to avoid burning out, I will work on adding the textures to some of my assets. This will be assets such as the TIE fighters which for the majority of them will have very small detailed textures due to how small they will be but, there may be a couple that I need to pay some more attention to as they may be much closer to the camera. I will also work on adding the textures to my characters. I will use a range of different maps such as normal and UV maps to add my texture details to my characters. Currently, I'm thinking of using fan-made assets as well as game assets for my characters to save a large portion of time during production. I will then continue to work on developing my building models and further developing the layout of my scene. Towards the end of the week, if I get time to do so, I will work on adding some textures to the rest of the scene, as well as scattering some foundations for foliage around my scene. I will then gather images for my production diary and write about everything that I achieved in the week.
  • 34. SCHEDULE Week 3 (Holiday Week): Going into this week, I want to continue work on my textures and foliage. It is crucial that I get this part right and pay a large amount of attention towards this area of production, due to how much foliage influences the look of Naboo within the Star Wars universe. I then want to work on texturing my buildings. This will be something that may take a little while as it will be extremely important that I get these textures right as they will be quite a large aspect of my final product. During this process of texturing, I may need to alter my models of the buildings to add some more detail to areas that I previously hadn’t. Also in this week, I want to work on getting a rig ready for my characters, to do this, I plan on using Adobe Mixamo. This software is used to AI generate rigs for 3D models. I will use this software to get a simple rig quickly for my characters. I will then download these now rigged characters from Mixamo as well as downloading some basic pre-made animations from Mixamo to incorporate into my scene. These animations will be the basic animations at the very start of my animation if I manage to finish the still version of the scene in time. Towards the end of the week, if I have all the textures and foliage done, and I'm happy with everything, I will do some touch ups and add waterfalls to my mountains in the background. I'm not too sure how to do this but I'm sure there will be some tutorials on the internet that ill be able to follow. I will then collect images for the process that I had undergone throughout the
  • 35. SCHEDULE Week 4: At the very start of this week it is essential that I get all my textures and foliage to a point that I am happy with for the final piece. I want to ensure that I spend the majority of this week working on animating this scene if I have left myself enough time to do so. The following part of this plan will be for if I am ready to animate the scene. I will work on animating all my characters first, working from foreground to background. I will spend more time working on the foreground elements as they will be much more noticeable to the audience so it is crucial that I iron out any rough edges in my animations for these foreground elements. It is not as important that I create such smooth animations for my background characters as they will be so small from the cameras point of view due to how large the scale for this scene is. After animating my characters, I will work on animating my other assets such as the ships, these animations will be much quicker to do and shouldn’t take too long at all. Finally I will work on animating blaster bolts from both my characters and the ships in the sky. I will then work on gathering material I need for my production diary and carry on working on that.
  • 36. SCHEDULE Week 5: In week 5, I will work on smoothing out all my animations at the start of the week and getting my project to the point of which that I am happy with. I will then render an initial frame to test how everything is looking once rendered. If I am happy with everything I will send the file off to a render farm to render. I have decided to do this due to the immense amount of time it would take to render an animation of this scale on my home computer. Although it will cost money, it is absolutely worth it as it will save a large amount of time but maintain the same quality. In addition to this, I will be able to use my computer to do other aspects of the project whilst it is rendering. I will then work on sound design, colour correction and other smaller video based aspects ready to compile everything once the render is complete. I will then compile everything and begin working on a basic scene to present everything. Later into the week, I will work on creating my fanzine, this shouldn’t be something that takes more than a couple of days. Towards the end of the week, I will have created a very basic scene to present my fanzine. My current idea is a bedroom where the reader is flicking through the fanzine, they will then land on the page where my animation will be, and the camera will fall into the scene, playing out the animation. I will then work on compiling all of this content at the end of the week into one video that everything that can be presented in. I will then finish of my production diary ready for everything to be submitted the following week.
