7. Idea Evaluation
I have chosen this idea as I feel that it's something that'll be achievable to a high quality within the time frame
that I have. I hope that using some 3D aspects to highlight the tour path will allow me to show off some
technical quality whilst also being practical and provide a purpose to the project as a whole. This idea is also
something that I know quite a good bit about, with the project being based around film and filming locations
around the city of York, I have quite a lot of knowledge of film and the city of York as I have lived here my entire
life. Because of this, I know all the main tourist attractions of the city and have knowledge of films that have
been shot within the city through my lifetime and beyond that as my parents have also lived here for 20+ years.
In addition to this, both of my parents spent a large portion of their lifetimes working at Nestle in York, this
provides me with a lot of knowledge of quite a big thing within the city of York in 2005. This was the idea of
Nestle being used as a filming location for the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory film. Also, from growing up in
York, I know about one of York's most famous streets, 'The Shambles' this street is so famous in the city of York
due to the heavy inspiration it had on the set design for a main location within the wizarding world of the Harry
Potter franchise. Because of all this knowledge that I have of films within York and the tourism in York, I felt this
idea for the project was extremely fitting for me and should be something that I both enjoy producing and give
myself enough time to make to a high quality within the time frame provided for this project.
14. Assessment of final ideas
I believe that I have created an idea for this project that is very tailored towards the target audience. I felt it was
extremely important to prioritise the target audience as currently, in York, there are not many young people
visiting the city. This is a huge problem if I wanted this project to be successful. The client provided a brief for a
tour guide for 18–24-year-olds, upon researching York’s tourism demographic, it was clear to me that the majority
of tourists in York are much older than this target audience I have been briefed upon for this project. To challenge
this issue, I have decided to make a trailer for the tour. I believe that this format of an advertisement video for the
project is much more appealing to my target audience, opposed to an advertisement that is much longer and
slower, maybe holding more detail. To provide the audience with more detail, I will create a concept version of an
app that could be created for this tour. The app will be an interactive map of the tour guide and will allow the
tourist to click on locations within the tour and provide them with more information. I believe this will be an
interesting way to provide my target audience with the detail they need for the tour whilst blending in the
technical nature of younger people. I hope that by advertising the tour this way, the young target audience will be
intrigued by the short, snappy advert, causing them to want to find out more by downloading the app to get extra
information on the tour. This way, the advert won't be too long and bore people with too much information.
