For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us
Make sure you assess the viability of ideas as well as the
potential for them creatively.
RESEARCH
To summarise, through the research I have undertaken into my target audience
for this project, I have discovered a variety of different information about both my
audience's perception to cinema and my audience's perception to York. I have
discovered that my target audience, currently, is not the biggest age group in
York. Currently, a lot of York's visitors consist of much older age groups so
targeting something to a younger audience will need to be specifically tailored to
the younger people and have good marketing to reach them. However, to counter
this, I did discover that my target audience is the biggest age group of cinema-
goers. This means that my target audience age group will be interested by the
product that I have to offer them within York. I hope that this means that my tour
will bring more younger people into the city to lower the age demographic
making the city more enjoyable for younger people. I also discovered from my
research that a lot of the visitors that come to York are families. This may mean
that a lot of my target audience will come with their families and go on tours of
the city with their families. They may not have previously had an option to go on
a tour more tailored to their age group, I hope that my cinematic tour will give
younger people an option for something fun and interesting to do in the city
centre, whilst also offering education of the city and some insight into film.
POTENTIAL APPROACHES
Currently I have a couple of ideas for how I can advertise my tour to my target
audience. This is something that I have put quite a bit of thought into as it’s a
majorly important part to making this tour successful due to the low amount of
young people that currently visit the city. My first idea was to create something
that short and snappy and provides the audience with the information that they
need in a short and precise manner. I considered this as from my research I
discovered that these shorter form factor videos appeal to my target audience a
lot better than something that may be longer in duration and provide more
detailed information that may not be needed by every person who is watching the
video. I can also back this up with personal experience as I, myself is in the target
audience for this project and I know from previous experiences that I prefer an
advertisement that is shorter and provides the information that the audience
needs, the audience can then go and look for more information themselves if the
product being advertised is something that interests them. I also toyed with the
idea of creating something that is more interactive for the customer, this would
have meant that I would have created a simple app for the customer to use as
they go on the tour. They would be able to click on each location on the tour as
they got there and be walked through all the information about the location and
what the location is/was used for. I thought that this idea may work a bit better
for a target audience slightly older than the one I am targeting for this project as
its quite heavily information based and may be slightly boring for a younger
audience. I could potentially mix up both of these ideas to get the best of both
worlds but may involve too much work for the time limit that I have for this
POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES TO
USE
For this project I plan to use a range of different techniques from 3D maps to
colour correction. The main part of this project will consist of a 3D map of York
highlighting the tour path to the customer. This will be done by using the 3D data
collected by Google for their 3D mapping services such as Google Maps and
Google Earth. I can then use this data and put it into Blender using an existing
plugin that will allow me to have a 3D replica of the city. I can then use this
replica to animate a path that highlight the tour to the audience. I will also use a
fast-editing style to catch the attention of my younger target audience. From my
research I discovered that quick precise videos are much better suited to a
younger audience. I will also do colour correction in After Effects using a
collection of different plugins that will allow me to manipulate the colour of all my
footage to create the atmosphere and feeling that I want. The main plugin that ill
be using for this is called Magic Bullet Looks and has a range of different effects
built into one that will allow me to alter the colour to how I want it. Also, for the
3D map of York, when I put that into After Effects after I have animated the path,
there won't be any realistic atmosphere in the scene, to help with this I could add
a small amount of fog surrounding the city in Blender or alternatively, I could 3D
track the camera movement relative to the 3D replica of the city, then I could use
an After Effects plugin called Particular which would allow me to add a
smokey/cloudy effect to linger between the camera and the city, providing some
more realistic atmosphere.
POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES TO
USE
CONVENTIONS OF YOUR
CHOSEN FORMAT/GENRE
YOU ARE WORKING TO
I believe by making a short, snappy trailer as the main advertisement for this tour,
it will appeal best to the young target audience that I have been given from the
brief from the client. From my research, I discovered that my target audience may
have a pretty small attention span for advertisements so I thought it would be
best to create a video that would provide the target audience with the essential
information that they would need to understand the purpose of the tour and they
can then make an informed decision on whether they want to know more about
the tour or if it doesn’t interest them.
Following this up, if the audience does want to know more about the tour, their
will be an interactive app for the tour, this app will allow the user to find out
information regarding tour prices, tour dates and times, tour path and tour points
of interest. They can also use this app on the tour to get directions to the start of
the tour as well as directions to all the POIs as well as information pop-ups when
they get to each POI to know what this location was used for/what was shot there.
To link these two products together, the app will have the trailer built in and the
trailer will show the app weblink at the end of the trailer saying, “More info @...”.
MIND MAP OF IDEA
[SUMMARY OF IDEA]
FINAL IDEA – RATIONALE
I have decided on this idea for the project as I felt it was well suited to the needs
of the client and with good advertisement has the potential to be successful
within the market in York. I also feel this idea will give me the room and potential
to show off the technical skills that I want to display in this project as there are
some technically challenging areas that I have included, that I have previously
never done anything like before. For example, I will create a 3D map using 3D
scans from Google’s Mapping services such as Google Earth and Google Maps, as
well as creating a concept, in the form of a video, for a working app that acts as
an interactive map for the customer to use while they're on the tour guide. I have
decided to work only in video due to my skillset, I have a good knowledge of
video editing and have been doing it for a little while now and feel much more
comfortable working in a video format opposed to print due to my lack of
experience working in print. I’m looking forward to further broadening my
knowledge of possibilities within 3D and how I can manipulate these possibilities
to my needs for projects as well as diving into a more in-depth breakdown of
colour correction and audio editing.
FINAL IDEA – CREATIVE
CONCEPT
I am hoping to create something that feels bright and exciting to look at as well
as making it feel as if its something apart of the city. To do this I researched into
the colours of York, I found that a lot of council run websites and establishments
in the area use a lot of the same colours and often come under the colours I have
listed at the bottom of the page (Red, Yellow, White, Blue and Black). I aim to use
these colours consistently throughout my project to make the project feel as if it
belongs. I also hope to make something that feels of a production grade and of
high quality despite the limited time that I have, I hope by choosing a collection of
technically challenging tasks I will be able to achieve this goal for the project.
TASK 2 Pre-production
Assessment
GUIDANCE:
PRE-PRODUCTION
ASSESSMENT
You need to assess the viability of your production and
investigate what is required to enable you to make it.
Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will
need to investigate standard costs for such a production
and apply these to your planned production considering
which equipment you would need and resources, etc
Resources to support this are on Teams.

OUTLINE
Cinematic Tour of the City of York:
The general idea for this tour of York is for a Cinema/Film related tour around the
city of York. When briefed with the task for this project, I needed to find a topic
that would appeal to a young audience, this led me to film. However, after
completing research for this project, I discovered how few young people visit York
or even have an interest in the city. This issue stems from the city's historic routes
and landmarks such as he minster and the city walls. Although this attracts a lot of
tourists into the city and provides York with a great source of income, a lot of the
tourists that visit, are much older than the target audience I was provided for this
project. To challenge this, I needed to plan advertisement for this project that
would appeal to my young target audience and spark and interest in younger
people to visit York. This is a majorly important part of this project, if I don’t make
a successful advertisement for this tour, my target audience becomes very limited
to the small amount of young people that currently visit York. So, I intend to make
a trailer type video for this project that will first show a 3D map of the city with the
tour path highlighted through the city, upon reaching the final destination in this
3D map, the camera will fall into the Everyman Cinema and cut to a small part of
darkness. After a couple of seconds, famous characters from a range of different
movies will quickly flicker on screen and fall into the background and it will
eventually reveal the logo and title for the tour. I hope that this format will sweet
and snappy enough to grab the attention of my young target audience.

PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINE
Cinematic Tour of the City of York:
To do this, I will be using 3D scans provided by Google for their mapping services
such as Google Maps and Google Earth. I will be importing this data into Blender
as Blender is an open-source 3D program meaning that anyone can create a
plugin for the program. Luckily for me, someone has already created a plugin that
I can use that would allow me to take the data from the Google mapping services
and transfer that over to Blender to create a 3D replica of anywhere in the world. I
will then use this 3D map of York to create a map for the tour. I will do this by
animating a neon light or some sort of bright material that flows through the city
of York along the path that my tour will follow, highlighting the path to the
audience. At the moment, I am unsure if I will do this in Blender or in After Effects
but both will work so I will just need to experiment which is better for this
occasion. I will also use After Effects for the editing part of this project, this will
be used to roto brush characters from famous films/franchises to use in my
trailer for this project. I will also use After Effects to compile all the footage I have
for this project into the final edit, as well as color correction, small parts of
animation and sound editing for this project.
LOCATIONS
This project will consist of a lot of pre-existing footage and resources meaning
that I most likely wont need to physically film anything/anyone myself. I will be
using 3D scans collected by Google for their mapping services as well as pre-
existing footage/shots from famous films/franchises to compose my trailer for
this tour. However, there is a chance that I may need to record something myself.
Because I'm using 3D scans provided by Google’s mapping services, they may not
be of the highest resolution, for the majority of this project it shouldn’t be an
issue as my camera will move through the air quickly, resulting in motion blur
hiding the majority of the lack of resolution. However, when the camera
eventually falls down to the final destination of the tour (Everyman Cinema), the
camera will slow down and get much closer to the 3D scan of the building
meaning that the lack of detail may be more noticeable by the viewer. If this is the
case and is something that I dislike and believe is too noticeable, I may go out
and 3D scan the building myself to create a more high-resolution scan. For this, I
will need to go to Everyman Cinema in York, this isn’t too far away from where I
live so shouldn’t be an issue and it’s located in a safe area of the city. I will then
just need to use my phone to 3D scan the front of the building, so that my 3D
camera sees the higher resolution scan.
EQUIPMENT
With my production process consisting of already existing footage and resources,
I won't need any kit other than the computers at college to allow me to edit the
existing footage within college but ill also need my home computer to allow me
to create the 3D map for the tour. Because this map will consist of a lot of data
and vertices, it will take a lot of computer power and time to render the final
video. By doing this at home, I will have a much stronger computer to cut down
on the time to render but ill also be able to run this rendering process whilst I'm
in college, saving me time. If I end up 3D scanning Everyman Cinema myself
because the Google mapping scans aren’t high enough resolution for the close
up, I will need to use my phone to scan the building myself. I shouldn’t need any
specialist equipment for this 3D scan as my phone has a built in lidar scanner that
will allow me to create a 3D scan of the building myself at ease.
FACILITIES
I will edit my video both at home and in college, I will most likely use my home
computer to do any resource heavy things such as the 3D modelling, importing
and rendering, this is to cut down on time spent and to reduce the risk of
computer crashes. I will also use my home computer for any resource heavy
effects or plugins such as particular for After Effects, this is due to the fact that I
cannot access them in college as well as the fact that they would most likely crash
the college computers as they're extremely resource heavy plugins. I will then use
the college computers to use edit and compile the finished footage and do any
resource light work such as sound editing and small parts of colour correction. I
shouldn’t require any other facilities for this project.
PERSONNEL
This project will be a solo project and everything within the project will be
completed by just myself. Everything from 3D work to potential camera work will
be done by myself and I won't require any other personnel/crew for this project.
TASK 3.1 Creative or Visual
Planning
CONCEPT BOARD
I will use text/video pop ups
which will be information heavy
and explain the significance of
each POI along the trip of the
tour, the tourist will just select
each POI on the app as they visit
them.
At the end of the trailer video, the
tour logo and name will be
revealed as long as any contact
info where interested people can
find out more info. I will take
inspiration from the view intro for
this.
My interactive map
will have selectable
icons on each of the
POI’s along the
course of the tour
that tourists can
select and open up
the info bubble.
For this project I will be creating
a 3D map that highlights the tour
path to the customer. This will
both be used in the trailer at the
very beginning so that people
can see how long the tour is and
where it goes and it will also be
used in the Interactive App.
I hope to create a
thrilling and exciting
intro using
inspiration from the
MCU intro. I will use
the most well known
characters from
famous films and
franchises, including
those that will be
mentioned in the
tour, to create this
intro. My plan is to
roto the characters
out of their scenes
from their films and
have them pass
through the scene
giving the audience
a glimmer of each
character, this will
pick up pace and
eventually become
I will combine both the 3D map
of the city and the interactive
aspects of a map to create a map
that is of a high quality and
functional at the same time.

the ground, next to the starting location and
moves through the city following the tour path,
the camera follows this bright line through the
city and this shot ends with the camera flying
down to the finally location of the tour at
Everyman.
2 15s This shot will be the intro for the tour and will
take inspiration from the Marvel intro. I will
roto out characters from famous
films/franchises and have them fly through 3D
space giving the audience a glimpse of the
characters, this shot will end with the
characters flying past so fast it will
progressively turn into a collection of colour
and eventually fade out into darkness.

Shot Description
1 Birds-Eye View 10-15s Camera flies over city, the city then spins round
showing the audience the entire city replica, a
bright dot with a pinpoint will then appear and
the camera will fly over to the starting location
of the tour.
2 Birds-Eye View 10s The user will then select whether they want to
follow the designed tour guide or visit the POIs
they're interested in/want to go to in their own
order, the camera will then lower down and
show the user directions to the POI.
3 Birds-Eye View 5s Once the user reaches the POI, the camera will
return to birds-eye view but slightly closer to
the user, hight wise, than it was previously.
4 Birds-Eye View 10s The user will then click on the POI and the
information pop-up will appear providing the
user with relevant info.
STORYBOARD - TRAILER
The trailer for
the tour will
start with the
camera flying
over a 3D replica
of York until it is
over the start of
the first location
in the tour,
a bright dot will then emerge and form into a line
along the course of the tour, highlighting the tour
path to the audience.
Towards the end
of the tour path,
the camera will
start getting
closer to the
builds and the
pop up for the
last location will
become
visible, this may require an update 3D scan
closer to the buildings to ensure its not too low
resolution.
At the end of
this 3D section
of the trailer the
camera will
perch in front of
the everyman
cinema, showing
the final
destination to
the audience, I will most likely need to go out and
3D scan this building myself to make sure its of a
high enough resolution to be useable for this close
up.
Finally, I will use a collection of famous
characters to make a fast paced into to
capture my target audiences attention and
eventually fade off into the tour logo/info.
STORYBOARD – INTERACTIVE
APP (CONCEPT VIDEO)
The concept
video for the
interactive app
will start with
the camera
flying over a 3D
replica of York
and will pan
around showing
the
tour area to the user, it will then allow the user to
start the tour guide and will direct them to the
starting location.
Once the user
reaches the
location of the
start of the tour,
the app will
focus on a
closer area,
allowing the
user to see all
the
POI’s, the user can then click on a POI and it will
direct them to the POI, or they can follow the
intended tour order.
Once the user
reaches a POI,
they can use the
app to select the
POI they’re at
and it'll start an
informational
section
which they can read/listen to. There may also be a
video. This informational section will consist of info
about what was filmed at the location or what was
held at the location.
Finally, the concept video will cut to the logo
of the tour and present some further
information.
AUDIO PLANNING
For this project I hope to create an immersive sound design that suits the feel of
the video. This sound design will consist mostly of sound effects but I may also
include a soundtrack if I can find one that I think compliments the entire
atmosphere created by both the sound effects and the edit.
I'm currently thinking about working within Adobe Audition as it’s a production
standard audio editing program and will allow me to create a really high quality
sound design for this project if I can learn it in time. If I don’t use Adobe Audition
and don’t have the time to learn the new software to a standard that I am happy
to use it for this project, I will use either After Effects or Premiere Pro. I have
previously used Adobe After Effects for sound editing in previous project, it works
but its not the best as its made mainly for video editing and effects/2D
composition whereas Premiere Pro is much better suited to both video editing and
sound editing. Premiere Pro has a few built in functions that make sound editing
in the program a whole lot easier than it is in After Effects. Again this all depends
on the amount of time I have left for audio editing when I do get round to it but
this is my plan at the moment.
TASK 3.2 Organisational
Planning
LOCATIONS
I only have one potential filming location for this project. This location is not
something that I will definitely film, only as a backup. If I decide that the google
mapping service 3D scans don’t provide a high enough resolution scan for a close
up of the Everyman Cinema in York, I will go to the cinema myself to gather my
own 3D scan of the building using my phone.
Everyman Cinema is located near the centre of the city of York and is close to the
York railway station which is a hub for transport in and out of the city.
Blossom St, York YO24 1AJ
RISK ASSESSMENT
There shouldn’t be any real risk in filming at Everyman Cinema, it is located in a
safe area of the city and there's is plenty of room on the pathway away from the
road. The only real safety issue could be in getting there. Parking within York is
not the best and I may be forced to part a little while away from the Cinema that
I'm filming. In this case, there is a safety issue whilst working through York to get
to the cinema, York can get extremely busy and crossing roads may become a
challenge due to this. I just need to make sure I'm being safe whilst crossing
roads by ensuring that I'm looking for oncoming cars and only crossing the roads
when it is safe to do so. Other than that, I don’t see any other real risk involved
with filming at Everyman Cinema in York.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
PC Crashing – Make sure to save as often as possible to ensure I don’t lose a lot
of work. Also try to split renders up, allowing the computer time between render
to cool down, lowering the chances of it crashing and me losing work/progress.
Running out of time – I have planned things such as creating some effects in After
Effects rather than Blender if I start to run short on time. This way I will be able to
create the effects faster, but they will be of a lesser quality. I can also cut down on
some parts of production or make some sequences shorter to save time.
Software unavailable – if a certain software is unavailable, I have considered
alternatives. For example, if I am unable to get Blender installed on the college
computer, which would be worst case scenario, I would need to do any 3D work
for this project at home, this isn’t a huge issue but it something to consider to
help manage my time.
Not being able to complete everything – if I have taken on too much for this
project, I have planned the project in an order of priority so that if I don’t have
enough time towards the end of the project to complete everything, I will still
have a good piece so that I have something I'm happy with handing in, and it
shouldn’t cause any negative effect on my outcome from the project.

Video Planning Guide - GENERIC.pptx

  • 2. GUIDANC E This template PowerPoint presentation includes all the relevant elements you should cover for a practical project. It is not exhaustive, but provides some guidance on stages, types of planning and documents you should be assembling. This is not a one size fits all document, you will need to amend, rejig and add/subtract sections depending on what you are making. Add more pages to each section where necessary [you should be doing this!] Add visuals as you see necessary. This document will be added to as you progress through the pre-production phase. Delete this slide when complete
  • 3. TASK 1 Idea Generation and Research
  • 4. RESEARCH & IDEA GENERATION Use section to track your process of of generating ideas. List and discuss the styles, techniques and conventions that you have identified in your research. Explore how you could approach the project using different methods You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images, mind maps, etc For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us Make sure you assess the viability of ideas as well as the potential for them creatively.
  • 5. RESEARCH To summarise, through the research I have undertaken into my target audience for this project, I have discovered a variety of different information about both my audience's perception to cinema and my audience's perception to York. I have discovered that my target audience, currently, is not the biggest age group in York. Currently, a lot of York's visitors consist of much older age groups so targeting something to a younger audience will need to be specifically tailored to the younger people and have good marketing to reach them. However, to counter this, I did discover that my target audience is the biggest age group of cinema- goers. This means that my target audience age group will be interested by the product that I have to offer them within York. I hope that this means that my tour will bring more younger people into the city to lower the age demographic making the city more enjoyable for younger people. I also discovered from my research that a lot of the visitors that come to York are families. This may mean that a lot of my target audience will come with their families and go on tours of the city with their families. They may not have previously had an option to go on a tour more tailored to their age group, I hope that my cinematic tour will give younger people an option for something fun and interesting to do in the city centre, whilst also offering education of the city and some insight into film.
  • 6. POTENTIAL APPROACHES Currently I have a couple of ideas for how I can advertise my tour to my target audience. This is something that I have put quite a bit of thought into as it’s a majorly important part to making this tour successful due to the low amount of young people that currently visit the city. My first idea was to create something that short and snappy and provides the audience with the information that they need in a short and precise manner. I considered this as from my research I discovered that these shorter form factor videos appeal to my target audience a lot better than something that may be longer in duration and provide more detailed information that may not be needed by every person who is watching the video. I can also back this up with personal experience as I, myself is in the target audience for this project and I know from previous experiences that I prefer an advertisement that is shorter and provides the information that the audience needs, the audience can then go and look for more information themselves if the product being advertised is something that interests them. I also toyed with the idea of creating something that is more interactive for the customer, this would have meant that I would have created a simple app for the customer to use as they go on the tour. They would be able to click on each location on the tour as they got there and be walked through all the information about the location and what the location is/was used for. I thought that this idea may work a bit better for a target audience slightly older than the one I am targeting for this project as its quite heavily information based and may be slightly boring for a younger audience. I could potentially mix up both of these ideas to get the best of both worlds but may involve too much work for the time limit that I have for this
  • 7. POTENTIAL TECHNIQUES TO USE For this project I plan to use a range of different techniques from 3D maps to colour correction. The main part of this project will consist of a 3D map of York highlighting the tour path to the customer. This will be done by using the 3D data collected by Google for their 3D mapping services such as Google Maps and Google Earth. I can then use this data and put it into Blender using an existing plugin that will allow me to have a 3D replica of the city. I can then use this replica to animate a path that highlight the tour to the audience. I will also use a fast-editing style to catch the attention of my younger target audience. From my research I discovered that quick precise videos are much better suited to a younger audience. I will also do colour correction in After Effects using a collection of different plugins that will allow me to manipulate the colour of all my footage to create the atmosphere and feeling that I want. The main plugin that ill be using for this is called Magic Bullet Looks and has a range of different effects built into one that will allow me to alter the colour to how I want it. Also, for the 3D map of York, when I put that into After Effects after I have animated the path, there won't be any realistic atmosphere in the scene, to help with this I could add a small amount of fog surrounding the city in Blender or alternatively, I could 3D track the camera movement relative to the 3D replica of the city, then I could use an After Effects plugin called Particular which would allow me to add a smokey/cloudy effect to linger between the camera and the city, providing some more realistic atmosphere.
  • 9. CONVENTIONS OF YOUR CHOSEN FORMAT/GENRE YOU ARE WORKING TO I believe by making a short, snappy trailer as the main advertisement for this tour, it will appeal best to the young target audience that I have been given from the brief from the client. From my research, I discovered that my target audience may have a pretty small attention span for advertisements so I thought it would be best to create a video that would provide the target audience with the essential information that they would need to understand the purpose of the tour and they can then make an informed decision on whether they want to know more about the tour or if it doesn’t interest them. Following this up, if the audience does want to know more about the tour, their will be an interactive app for the tour, this app will allow the user to find out information regarding tour prices, tour dates and times, tour path and tour points of interest. They can also use this app on the tour to get directions to the start of the tour as well as directions to all the POIs as well as information pop-ups when they get to each POI to know what this location was used for/what was shot there. To link these two products together, the app will have the trailer built in and the trailer will show the app weblink at the end of the trailer saying, “More info @...”.
  • 10. MIND MAP OF IDEA [SUMMARY OF IDEA]
  • 11. FINAL IDEA – RATIONALE I have decided on this idea for the project as I felt it was well suited to the needs of the client and with good advertisement has the potential to be successful within the market in York. I also feel this idea will give me the room and potential to show off the technical skills that I want to display in this project as there are some technically challenging areas that I have included, that I have previously never done anything like before. For example, I will create a 3D map using 3D scans from Google’s Mapping services such as Google Earth and Google Maps, as well as creating a concept, in the form of a video, for a working app that acts as an interactive map for the customer to use while they're on the tour guide. I have decided to work only in video due to my skillset, I have a good knowledge of video editing and have been doing it for a little while now and feel much more comfortable working in a video format opposed to print due to my lack of experience working in print. I’m looking forward to further broadening my knowledge of possibilities within 3D and how I can manipulate these possibilities to my needs for projects as well as diving into a more in-depth breakdown of colour correction and audio editing.
  • 12. FINAL IDEA – CREATIVE CONCEPT I am hoping to create something that feels bright and exciting to look at as well as making it feel as if its something apart of the city. To do this I researched into the colours of York, I found that a lot of council run websites and establishments in the area use a lot of the same colours and often come under the colours I have listed at the bottom of the page (Red, Yellow, White, Blue and Black). I aim to use these colours consistently throughout my project to make the project feel as if it belongs. I also hope to make something that feels of a production grade and of high quality despite the limited time that I have, I hope by choosing a collection of technically challenging tasks I will be able to achieve this goal for the project.
  • 14. GUIDANCE: PRE-PRODUCTION ASSESSMENT You need to assess the viability of your production and investigate what is required to enable you to make it. Much of this task is hypothetical, which means you will need to investigate standard costs for such a production and apply these to your planned production considering which equipment you would need and resources, etc Resources to support this are on Teams. Delete the questions on each slide and insert your responses
  • 15. TITLE OF PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION OUTLINE Cinematic Tour of the City of York: The general idea for this tour of York is for a Cinema/Film related tour around the city of York. When briefed with the task for this project, I needed to find a topic that would appeal to a young audience, this led me to film. However, after completing research for this project, I discovered how few young people visit York or even have an interest in the city. This issue stems from the city's historic routes and landmarks such as he minster and the city walls. Although this attracts a lot of tourists into the city and provides York with a great source of income, a lot of the tourists that visit, are much older than the target audience I was provided for this project. To challenge this, I needed to plan advertisement for this project that would appeal to my young target audience and spark and interest in younger people to visit York. This is a majorly important part of this project, if I don’t make a successful advertisement for this tour, my target audience becomes very limited to the small amount of young people that currently visit York. So, I intend to make a trailer type video for this project that will first show a 3D map of the city with the tour path highlighted through the city, upon reaching the final destination in this 3D map, the camera will fall into the Everyman Cinema and cut to a small part of darkness. After a couple of seconds, famous characters from a range of different movies will quickly flicker on screen and fall into the background and it will eventually reveal the logo and title for the tour. I hope that this format will sweet and snappy enough to grab the attention of my young target audience.
  • 16. TITLE OF PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION OUTLINE Cinematic Tour of the City of York: To do this, I will be using 3D scans provided by Google for their mapping services such as Google Maps and Google Earth. I will be importing this data into Blender as Blender is an open-source 3D program meaning that anyone can create a plugin for the program. Luckily for me, someone has already created a plugin that I can use that would allow me to take the data from the Google mapping services and transfer that over to Blender to create a 3D replica of anywhere in the world. I will then use this 3D map of York to create a map for the tour. I will do this by animating a neon light or some sort of bright material that flows through the city of York along the path that my tour will follow, highlighting the path to the audience. At the moment, I am unsure if I will do this in Blender or in After Effects but both will work so I will just need to experiment which is better for this occasion. I will also use After Effects for the editing part of this project, this will be used to roto brush characters from famous films/franchises to use in my trailer for this project. I will also use After Effects to compile all the footage I have for this project into the final edit, as well as color correction, small parts of animation and sound editing for this project.
  • 17. LOCATIONS This project will consist of a lot of pre-existing footage and resources meaning that I most likely wont need to physically film anything/anyone myself. I will be using 3D scans collected by Google for their mapping services as well as pre- existing footage/shots from famous films/franchises to compose my trailer for this tour. However, there is a chance that I may need to record something myself. Because I'm using 3D scans provided by Google’s mapping services, they may not be of the highest resolution, for the majority of this project it shouldn’t be an issue as my camera will move through the air quickly, resulting in motion blur hiding the majority of the lack of resolution. However, when the camera eventually falls down to the final destination of the tour (Everyman Cinema), the camera will slow down and get much closer to the 3D scan of the building meaning that the lack of detail may be more noticeable by the viewer. If this is the case and is something that I dislike and believe is too noticeable, I may go out and 3D scan the building myself to create a more high-resolution scan. For this, I will need to go to Everyman Cinema in York, this isn’t too far away from where I live so shouldn’t be an issue and it’s located in a safe area of the city. I will then just need to use my phone to 3D scan the front of the building, so that my 3D camera sees the higher resolution scan.
  • 18. EQUIPMENT With my production process consisting of already existing footage and resources, I won't need any kit other than the computers at college to allow me to edit the existing footage within college but ill also need my home computer to allow me to create the 3D map for the tour. Because this map will consist of a lot of data and vertices, it will take a lot of computer power and time to render the final video. By doing this at home, I will have a much stronger computer to cut down on the time to render but ill also be able to run this rendering process whilst I'm in college, saving me time. If I end up 3D scanning Everyman Cinema myself because the Google mapping scans aren’t high enough resolution for the close up, I will need to use my phone to scan the building myself. I shouldn’t need any specialist equipment for this 3D scan as my phone has a built in lidar scanner that will allow me to create a 3D scan of the building myself at ease.
  • 19. FACILITIES I will edit my video both at home and in college, I will most likely use my home computer to do any resource heavy things such as the 3D modelling, importing and rendering, this is to cut down on time spent and to reduce the risk of computer crashes. I will also use my home computer for any resource heavy effects or plugins such as particular for After Effects, this is due to the fact that I cannot access them in college as well as the fact that they would most likely crash the college computers as they're extremely resource heavy plugins. I will then use the college computers to use edit and compile the finished footage and do any resource light work such as sound editing and small parts of colour correction. I shouldn’t require any other facilities for this project.
  • 20. PERSONNEL This project will be a solo project and everything within the project will be completed by just myself. Everything from 3D work to potential camera work will be done by myself and I won't require any other personnel/crew for this project.
  • 21. TASK 3.1 Creative or Visual Planning
  • 23. I will use text/video pop ups which will be information heavy and explain the significance of each POI along the trip of the tour, the tourist will just select each POI on the app as they visit them. At the end of the trailer video, the tour logo and name will be revealed as long as any contact info where interested people can find out more info. I will take inspiration from the view intro for this. My interactive map will have selectable icons on each of the POI’s along the course of the tour that tourists can select and open up the info bubble. For this project I will be creating a 3D map that highlights the tour path to the customer. This will both be used in the trailer at the very beginning so that people can see how long the tour is and where it goes and it will also be used in the Interactive App. I hope to create a thrilling and exciting intro using inspiration from the MCU intro. I will use the most well known characters from famous films and franchises, including those that will be mentioned in the tour, to create this intro. My plan is to roto the characters out of their scenes from their films and have them pass through the scene giving the audience a glimmer of each character, this will pick up pace and eventually become I will combine both the 3D map of the city and the interactive aspects of a map to create a map that is of a high quality and functional at the same time.
  • 24. SHOT LIST - TRAILER Shot Numb er Shot Type Length of Shot Shot Description 1 Birds-Eye View 30s Camera flies over city, pauses over the starting location for the tour, a bright dot appears on the ground, next to the starting location and moves through the city following the tour path, the camera follows this bright line through the city and this shot ends with the camera flying down to the finally location of the tour at Everyman. 2 15s This shot will be the intro for the tour and will take inspiration from the Marvel intro. I will roto out characters from famous films/franchises and have them fly through 3D space giving the audience a glimpse of the characters, this shot will end with the characters flying past so fast it will progressively turn into a collection of colour and eventually fade out into darkness.
  • 25. SHOT LIST - TRAILER Shot Numb er Shot Type Length of Shot Shot Description 1 Birds-Eye View 10-15s Camera flies over city, the city then spins round showing the audience the entire city replica, a bright dot with a pinpoint will then appear and the camera will fly over to the starting location of the tour. 2 Birds-Eye View 10s The user will then select whether they want to follow the designed tour guide or visit the POIs they're interested in/want to go to in their own order, the camera will then lower down and show the user directions to the POI. 3 Birds-Eye View 5s Once the user reaches the POI, the camera will return to birds-eye view but slightly closer to the user, hight wise, than it was previously. 4 Birds-Eye View 10s The user will then click on the POI and the information pop-up will appear providing the user with relevant info.
  • 26. STORYBOARD - TRAILER The trailer for the tour will start with the camera flying over a 3D replica of York until it is over the start of the first location in the tour, a bright dot will then emerge and form into a line along the course of the tour, highlighting the tour path to the audience. Towards the end of the tour path, the camera will start getting closer to the builds and the pop up for the last location will become visible, this may require an update 3D scan closer to the buildings to ensure its not too low resolution. At the end of this 3D section of the trailer the camera will perch in front of the everyman cinema, showing the final destination to the audience, I will most likely need to go out and 3D scan this building myself to make sure its of a high enough resolution to be useable for this close up. Finally, I will use a collection of famous characters to make a fast paced into to capture my target audiences attention and eventually fade off into the tour logo/info.
  • 27. STORYBOARD – INTERACTIVE APP (CONCEPT VIDEO) The concept video for the interactive app will start with the camera flying over a 3D replica of York and will pan around showing the tour area to the user, it will then allow the user to start the tour guide and will direct them to the starting location. Once the user reaches the location of the start of the tour, the app will focus on a closer area, allowing the user to see all the POI’s, the user can then click on a POI and it will direct them to the POI, or they can follow the intended tour order. Once the user reaches a POI, they can use the app to select the POI they’re at and it'll start an informational section which they can read/listen to. There may also be a video. This informational section will consist of info about what was filmed at the location or what was held at the location. Finally, the concept video will cut to the logo of the tour and present some further information.
  • 28. AUDIO PLANNING For this project I hope to create an immersive sound design that suits the feel of the video. This sound design will consist mostly of sound effects but I may also include a soundtrack if I can find one that I think compliments the entire atmosphere created by both the sound effects and the edit. I'm currently thinking about working within Adobe Audition as it’s a production standard audio editing program and will allow me to create a really high quality sound design for this project if I can learn it in time. If I don’t use Adobe Audition and don’t have the time to learn the new software to a standard that I am happy to use it for this project, I will use either After Effects or Premiere Pro. I have previously used Adobe After Effects for sound editing in previous project, it works but its not the best as its made mainly for video editing and effects/2D composition whereas Premiere Pro is much better suited to both video editing and sound editing. Premiere Pro has a few built in functions that make sound editing in the program a whole lot easier than it is in After Effects. Again this all depends on the amount of time I have left for audio editing when I do get round to it but this is my plan at the moment.
  • 30. LOCATIONS I only have one potential filming location for this project. This location is not something that I will definitely film, only as a backup. If I decide that the google mapping service 3D scans don’t provide a high enough resolution scan for a close up of the Everyman Cinema in York, I will go to the cinema myself to gather my own 3D scan of the building using my phone. Everyman Cinema is located near the centre of the city of York and is close to the York railway station which is a hub for transport in and out of the city. Blossom St, York YO24 1AJ
  • 31. RISK ASSESSMENT There shouldn’t be any real risk in filming at Everyman Cinema, it is located in a safe area of the city and there's is plenty of room on the pathway away from the road. The only real safety issue could be in getting there. Parking within York is not the best and I may be forced to part a little while away from the Cinema that I'm filming. In this case, there is a safety issue whilst working through York to get to the cinema, York can get extremely busy and crossing roads may become a challenge due to this. I just need to make sure I'm being safe whilst crossing roads by ensuring that I'm looking for oncoming cars and only crossing the roads when it is safe to do so. Other than that, I don’t see any other real risk involved with filming at Everyman Cinema in York.
  • 32. CONTINGENCY PLAN PC Crashing – Make sure to save as often as possible to ensure I don’t lose a lot of work. Also try to split renders up, allowing the computer time between render to cool down, lowering the chances of it crashing and me losing work/progress. Running out of time – I have planned things such as creating some effects in After Effects rather than Blender if I start to run short on time. This way I will be able to create the effects faster, but they will be of a lesser quality. I can also cut down on some parts of production or make some sequences shorter to save time. Software unavailable – if a certain software is unavailable, I have considered alternatives. For example, if I am unable to get Blender installed on the college computer, which would be worst case scenario, I would need to do any 3D work for this project at home, this isn’t a huge issue but it something to consider to help manage my time. Not being able to complete everything – if I have taken on too much for this project, I have planned the project in an order of priority so that if I don’t have enough time towards the end of the project to complete everything, I will still have a good piece so that I have something I'm happy with handing in, and it shouldn’t cause any negative effect on my outcome from the project.
