Rationale:
I have decided on this project because film is something that I’m very interested in and therefor I
know a lot about the chosen topic, and I will enjoy researching and discovering the films that have
previously been filmed within the city. The film industry also is the industry that I want to work in
later in my life. Doing this project will allow me to incorporate what I want to do later in life into this
project, I will be able to use 3D software to create a visual layout and guide for the tour using
Google Maps’ scan of York.
Project Concept:
For this project, I want to create a tour around York focusing on all the cinema related areas of
York, this ranges from Luxury Cinema’s to famous filming locations around the city. This will be a
walking tour and I am currently toying with the idea of making the tour an interactive tour using
small videos explaining the points of interest as the customer makes their way around the tour. I
have already decided upon making one main trailer for the tour that will be a short snappy video to
gather interest in the tour as I found from my research that my young target audience will enjoy
this form of video much more, opposed to a longer, much more detailed video about the tour. I will
also definitely make a 3D map of the city that will highlight the tour path for the customer. I have
already researched into this idea and found a way to use Google Maps’ 3D scans for my own
purposes, opposed to scanning areas myself, which may not have been possible in the time frame.
Other than this, I may need to do some research into how to make an easy-to-use area/app for the
customer to get this information any time during the tour.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I plan to gather ideas and feedback from peers inside of my target audience to see if this tour
interests them, I think this is a good way to evaluate the current state of my project. I will also use
on-going evaluation to constantly assess myself and the product to ensure its of a high quality,
finally I will do a final evaluation to make a conclusive assessment of my product and if I’m happy
with its outcome.
