2. Conventions of Short Film posters
■ Short film posters use multiple of the same characteristics of feature length films
posters, however they are more likely to have less information such as: date of
release and format of the film such as IMAX or 3D.(Some short films might have
the festival date)
■ In comparison to feature films, short films are very simple using only one or two
characters which are used to maintain the focus of the poster.
■ Similarly short film posters have the general information which is required for a
film poster this being: the name of the film, the production company, the names
of the directors and actors. This is common information needed for the poster.
■ Another attribute that all film posters contain are small clues of the films which
can be presented with props or the mise en scene.
■ The genre of the film can be recognised based on the font used.
3. Short film poster
• Concerning the Layout of the poster for this short film, it is
clear that the director opted for a more simple layout. The use
of framing and composition for this poster draws the attention
immediately to the character standing in the centre. The
protagonist’s face is pixeled, this was used to create an effect.
As we can see the film is called “Faded” meaning that the
pixeled face and the name of the film are linked.
• The Title of the film “Faded” is very vague. There isn’t depth or
focus. This is symbolic as it creates a sense of mystery.
• The Main Image of this poster, was well executed. The blurred
background suggests that the main focus is the boy and only
he matters. The pixeled face could possibly suggest how the
boy has a few personal problems.
As we can see this short film poster it is very simple, it merely
consists of a main image, the title, the name of the director, the
logos of festival awards and the name of some crew members.
4. Feature film poster
• Feature film consist of a lot more in comparison to short
film posters.
• Looking at the poster of this film we can already say that it
required a lot of Editing. Short film posters will not have a
lot of editing because they are short in budget.
• This film poster in particular has a lot going on, this being
that it has six different characters on the poster each one of
them plays an important role in the film.
• The Colours used on this poster are darker because it
connotates danger which is a stereotypical feature of action
films.
• The Setting of this cover is of a city, which is the typical
setting for action films. This creates a busy scene with
multiple things happening, this is portrayed with through
the many characters and action taking place in the image.
5. Conclusion
■ When analysing these short films posters it was fairly straightforward determining
whether they are short film posters or feature film posters. This because as to
features’, the short film poster has fewer conventions. However in conclusion short
film posters carry some similarities to feature film posters because both posters serve
the same purpose which is to attract viewers and to get them to watch their film.
