Mara starts the lesson greeting the students and asks some helpers
to deliver the badges. She introduces Jasmine in Spanish (it could be
done in English) to the class. There is much noise when she starts
speaking because the kids are delivering the badges. Suggestion:
you can wait for some minutes till they finish, and then, you speak.
A boy asks “es de Mexico?” and Mara says “de México?, no?”
Suggestion: you can repeat what the students say but in English,
“from Mexico? No, she in not from Mexico” this is an excellent input
for them.
Another boy says “los ingleses nos robaron Las Malvinas”. Mara
answers immediately “bueno, ese es otro tema!” and she makes a
gesture of silence. It is good that you did not ignore the comment but
in the future, if you are part of similar situations, you can explain to
2. them that wars are usually because of political interests and that they
are started by governments, not by individual citizens as Jasmine,
that she is a guest to our country, that she is interested in visiting
our landscapes and meet our people, that we have to welcome her
and have a nice time together.
All the students show interest in Jasmine´s life, they notice that she
also speaks Spanish.
She has prepared excellent activities to promote intercultural
exchange, all the students show enthusiasm and high interest in the
activities. All of them want to participate and guess where Jasmine is
from.
She asks for silence when it is necessary, although her tone of voice
is a bit low, she has good management of the group, and all of them
obey her commands.
I observe that Mara and Mariel start the game by the middle of the
class. I mean, with the students who are sitting in the middle of the
room. Suggestion: pay attention to the ones who are sitting at the
sides too.
While the students are doing the activity, they are telling Jasmine
facts about our culture, a girl says “oh. No. Food!!!” and Mara
motivates her to participate, she tells her, “Come on, tell Jasmine
about our food, what do we eat on Sundays here in Argentina?”
Excellent intervention!!!!
She has good rapport with students and eye contact with all of them.
Mara shows teacher stance, she asks for silence when it is necessary.
She keeps control of the whole group.
After Jasmine´s presentation, she explains the first activity. She tells
Agustin, “it´s your turn!” well done!!! Because this is a boy who is sat
alone, although he doesn´t show any special problem. Even more,
3. this boy stands up and picks up some papers from the floor. Mara
does not notice this. Suggestion: pay attention to these actions, we
must always congratulate this kind of actions.
She hands in the corrected tests and some presents because it is her
last class. Each gift has a phrase so all the students are interested in
sharing their phrases to know all of them. Very nice!!!!
It was a really nice class. Congrats to the three of you.
As pedagogical partner: she was very active, she was always paying
attention to what Mariel or the students needed. She helped Mariel to
deliver the tests and the presents.
