This is a Power point content which talks about the Giftedness and Slow learners in Mathematics and tips and strategies to deal with those students, Remedial and enrichment programs for them. It also contains few examples of gifted personalities and analogy of learners with mobile phones
Learners with diverse needs (Gifted and slow learners)
1. Do we all use
Same mobile?
Say your answer in the link given below
2. We(learners) are also different like mobiles
We have different RAM (some are good at
application) ,ROM(Some are good at
Reading ), We have processor
difference(some processes with high speed)
and charging capacity is different(some
have interest and patience for just few
minutes or hours), Performance is also
different (some perform good at sports
some at Art e.t.c…,) We have no much
difference with mobiles
3. As teachers we have to concentrate on what
that mobile/learner can do and make
them/that utilize it for the maximum extent.
When we say the maximum extent we have
learners with maximum/outstanding
performance & with minimum and
out-standing performance (standing out of
class) In this presentation we will be looking
into theses two groups
5. “A person showing consistent extraordinary
achievement in a productive field is a
genius/Gifted ~Having Hersit
Usually giftedness is not meant in one
particular field there are different
giftedness like musically gifted, athelitic
giftedness, Mathematicall giftedness, …..,
sometimes there can be multiple giftedness
also(in multiple fields at a time)
6. ★ Solves problems easily
★ Performs computations easily and accurately
★ Avoids extensive calculation
★ Works a long time on challenging problems
★ Works easily with technology
★ Has the ability to translate unfamiliar abstraction into familiar
★ Intuitively solves difficult problems
★ Computes answers in non-traditional manner
★ Ex: Srinivas Ramanujan, Gauss and many others are there
★ Openmindness
Characteristics
7. ★ Frequently impatient with drill and details that he thinks are not
important.
★ May be reading mathematics books years ahead of his age.
★ Recognizes patterns readily and enjoys speculating on generalization.
★ Prefers to think on higher levels of abstraction.
★ Classifies particular cases as special cases of more general situations
with relative case.
★ Follows a long chain of reasoning, frequently anticipating and
contributing.
★ Frequently asks profound questions
Special

Able to solve higher
standard problems
10. Points to be noted
➔ Opinion of subject teachers
➔ Students score in
mathematics aptitude test,
mathematics
achievements test and
intelligence test
➔ Students past
performance in
mathematics
➔ Students score in
inventories like interest in
mathematic. Attitude
towards mathematics
➔ Report of a
properly planned
interview
➔ The opinion of
teachers based
on day-to-day
observation of
child’s behaviour
12. ➔ An enriched syllabus for
extensive and intensive study
➔ Encouraged to enrich
knowledge
➔ Allowed to do self study
➔ Use Heuristic, analytic,
problem solving, project or
discussion method
➔ Encouraged to participate
Mathematics club activities
➔ Encouraged to use
mathematical facts to solve
day to day problems
➔ Involve Activities like
seminars, exhibitions, models
➔ Works should be duly
appreciated
➔ Special coaching should be
arranged for such students
➔ Make learning fun
➔ Should give freedom
➔ Challenging tasks should be
provided
➔ Don’t single out student
➔ Avoid rote learning
14. IQ
IQ
A student who lags behind other students
In class we call the particular student a slow
learner
15. Identification
Of slow learners ➔ Can’t detect own errors
➔ Not creative in thinking
➔ Observation technique
➔ Case study method
➔ Medical examination
➔ Academic examination
➔ Personality tests
➔ Intelligent tests
➔ Psychological tests
➔ I.Q is below 90
➔ Very little drive
➔ Short span of attention
➔ Weak association of
memory
➔ Poor reader
➔ Difficulty with
abstractions
➔ Not logical in thinking
➔ Low imagination
16. Characteristics of
slow learners
● Limited cognitive capacity
● Low memory
● Lack of concentration
● Problem in language expression
● Difficulty in comprehension
● Lack of confidence spelling
mistakes
● Problem in decision making
17. Causes

● Teacher with attitude of affection,
kindness and patience
● Training programs to improve the
skill
● Remedial teaching
● Systematic plan and regular drill
● Boosting up the confidence
● Provide such opportunities which
result meaningful learning
● Providing good guidance and
academic support
18. ★ Sensory learning
★ Daily routine with surprises
★ Frequent change of strategies
★ Spot not for wrong answer
★ Check their work daily and accept as
they do it
★ Never force to work long
★ Make the lesson simple and short
★ Each day testing is better than long
test

Editor's Notes
Teacher asks the students about this
Students will be responding like different mobiles and
Teacher continue with asking which mobile do you use and concludes that we all use different mobiles as per our diverse needs. Now you think as a student don’t you think they also need different teachers at least methods or techniques according to their needs
Now think your grandmother using your smart phone can she use as good as you could do no right
Student say yes.
In teaching learning process every teacher encounters slow learners especially in mathematic. In mathematics it is clearly evident and we could easily find out who are slow learners usually facial expressions itself can caught us them
Physical causes like eye sight, hearing problem, other physical disalignments
