Judging the Relevance and worth of ideas part 2.pptx
Technology
1.
2. When I was constructing my product, I used many different technologies. The main type of technology I used was
photoshop. I am going to go through the many different tools I used and how they helped me create my product. From
this I will be using screenshots, to show how the tools I used manipulated the image. I will show before and after
photographs of the changes I made. This will demonstrate what I have learned over the time I have made my magazine. I
am now going to analyse the techniques I used in my video. Therefore I can explain how these have enhanced and
changed the construction of my product.
I changed the brightness of the image. I did this by going onto image, adjustments and then onto brightness/hue. I
then increased the brightness of the image. This helps make the image look more professional and something that
would be featured in a magazine. The first tool I used in my video is the quick selection tool, you can either select
the outline of something in the image or you can use it to push the tool away from the outline. This allows for the
To finish cutting out the background of the image I used the polygonal lasso tool to neaten up
the background I had missed when using the quick selection tool. This allowed for awkward parts
image to be cut away from the background and it is neat and precise. I then deleted the selected area of the image. The edges around Brooke
are not neat, however I went back to this later on in the video. I then used the quick selection tool to select the other side of the image. I used
the minus quick selection tool because the stripes on the costume were selected. I then deleted the selected areas. By using the quick
selection tool I was able to delete the background of the image, this allows for the image to be put in front of another layer on photoshop.
Therefore this is something that producers of a magazine would do. So this makes my product conventional. Also the background of the image
is usually of a green or yellow colour. So by removing it the image looks clearer and more appealing.
of the image’s background to be deleted easily and quickly. This allowed the finished result to look
professional. Also it allowed me to make sure none of Brooke’s hands or hair was deleted when I used the
quick selection tool.
3. To remove dark circles and the shadow around Brooke’s eye I used the patch tool. This allowed me
to even out her complexion. I first drew around the section of the face that needed changing. Then I
dragged the selected area and moved it to the area of the face I wanted to replicate. This changed
the colour of the original selected area. After doing this Brooke’s face looked flawless, this is something the creators of
magazines would do. This is because they want the model to appear perfect to the audience, so by erasing any
imperfections they can do this. This is why I choose to edit Brooke’s face. It makes the photographs look professional.
The photograph I chose to demonstrate some techniques and tools I have learned to use had half of Brooke’s hair cut
off. I chose this on purpose, this is because I wanted to show how I have learned to clone parts of the image. I used the
clone stamp to create the other half of Brooke’s head. I did this by pressing alt and clicking on the part of the image I
wanted to clone; then I drew the parts of the image I wanted to fill in. In this video I rushed editing Brooke’s hair. When
I was making my magazine I tool I spent more time using the tool. This is because I wanted my product to look
professional and neat.
To whiten Brooke’s teeth I used the polygonal lass tool to draw around her teeth. Once I had drawn
around the teeth I went onto saturation and hue in the adjustments tab on the tool bar. Next I clicked
on the option that gave me a list of colours, I clicked on yellows. Then I increased the brightness of
the selected area. This made her teeth sparkling white, this method is something existing magazines
do to their models featured in their magazine. In this video I rushed this and therefore
Brooke’s outline of her teeth did not blend in or look natural. However when I was
doing for my front cover it took me several hours to perfect her teeth. I merely rushed
to show the effect of this technique I had learned.
4. I am now going to discuss and explain what camera I used to photograph my images for my
product. The camera I used was the Canon EOS 1200d. I chose this because I knew the
quality of the camera would reflect in my photographs. This camera is something that I would
expect professional photographers to use, therefore the photographs I had taken for my
product were to a very high standard. Along with using this camera I used the three point
light system. This set up is where there are three different lights, two at either side just
outside the frame and one in front of the camera. However to make sure the one in front of
the camera does not appear in the frame, I moved it slightly to the left. This lighting system
helps create a professional finish to the photograph. Also it helps the camera capture
photographs without shadows. As in the green room where I was taking my photographs
before I used these lights Brooke’s shadow was appearing on the white backdrop. I have now
included diagrams of the three point lighting system, to show a visual of what the set up
looks like.
5. I used both Microsoft Publisher and Powerpoint when I was doing my planning and research.
Also I have used these when doing my evaluation. I have used Publisher for many different
things but I have mostly used it for photoshop process step by step guides. This is because it
is simple to use but also on Blogger you cannot upload Word documents, therefore I had to
use Publisher. This is because I can save my files as an image. Using Publisher for my
coursework has been useful, this is because I to use many different types of media on my
blog. Also I made my digital drafts on Publisher, this helped me design my product. I have
learned a lot this year about technology and one of the things I have learned is how to
maximise the tools available on Publisher. This is because I now know that there are many
tools on this software that helped my design process. Also I have used Powerpoint for my
evaluation, I have either saved these as images or uploaded them on to SlideShare. Again
this allows me to use different technologies and media. Powerpoint has been very helpful
when I have been doing my evaluation. This is because it is very simple to use and helps
make my work look organised.
6. Blogger is where all my coursework is uploaded, this ensures that it is organised, portable
and easy to access. Before making my product I did not know how to use Blogger but now I
have learned all the different aspects to the website. For example I have learned how to
make blog posts and add images to these. However that is very simple and was something I
learned quickly. Whereas learning how to embed YouTube videos and Prezis on my blog was
more complex. By learning how to do this I got to add many different forms of media and
technology onto my blog. Therefore my work became more interesting, as it was not just
text. I thought of various ways I could incorporate the work I had been set into videos and
prezis. This is because I wanted my blog to be different and to stand out. Using Blogger
allowed me to format and organise my work. I made sure my work was easy to find and very
clear. I did this by including titles to my blog posts. These clearly set out what is in the blog
post. Below are print screens of my blog.
7. I learned how to upload videos to YouTube and also how to embed them onto Blogger. The
videos I made and uploaded onto YouTube were for my planning and research or for my
evaluation. Some of the videos I made I edited together. This is something I learned whilst
making my product. Below I have included pictures of the videos I made for my
coursework.
8. I used GoAnimate for question five of my evaluation. This is because I wanted to use various
media platforms for my coursework. Using GoAnimate was quite easy. All I had to do was
pick a setting, add characters and add speech. I am going to include a picture of the video I
made for my evaluation.
9. I used SlideShare for my evaluation, this is because it looks professional and was easy to use.
At first I found it difficult but then I soon realised I just needed to upload a Powerpoint to the
website. Once they were on SlideShare I learned how to embed them onto my blog.
Therefore you can access the slide show on my blog. This helps keep my work organised and
tidy. I am going to include a picture of SlideShares I have put on my blog.
10. I have also used Prezi to present my work. This type of media is a type of slide show, where
you can add images, videos and music. I have done all of the above on some of my Prezis.
Also I created a custom theme for my Prezis; I did this because I wanted all of them to be the
same colour and to have the same layout. This is because it provides continuity to my blog. I
made a custom theme for my Prezis by going on customize, then going onto advanced. After I
clicked this I created my chosen colour scheme for my theme. I have made many Prezis,
these allow me to show my work on a different type of media. I am going to include a picture
of one of my prezis and a picture of the advanced customize setting.
